Yeah, I suppose it was karma for that crazy comeback I had in the first round. And yes, my team, in theory, should be even better next year. I return all five of my starters (four of them will be seniors next year) and I am adding some pretty talented recruits to go with them.

I've been looking forward to this next season for awhile. We're gonna have a very experienced team, and I like the recruits I signed in the offseason.

Well, that was a rough way to end the season. Still, a second-round exit is nothing to be ashamed of.

Not at all. I made the second round of the tournament with Texas Southern last year, so I really wanted to break through this year and at least make the Sweet Sixteen this time around. 28 wins is nothing to be ashamed of though - it's definitely a building block for my team next season and the program as a whole since this was my first year at VCU.

Tough loss in the tournament, but that doesn't diminish the strong season that VCU had. Good luck reloading and coming back even better next season.

The success on the court for the VCU Rams appears to be making it's way off it as two of nation's premier players have trimmed their lists and the Rams are very much in the mix.

Coach Logan Martinez's connections in Texas and the midwest during his time at Texas Southern has benefited him in his move to VCU. He brought in an impressive class last year for Texas Southern before he left for the VCU program, though he wasn't able to make headway for the Rams because VCU's previous coach, Shaka Smart, used up all of the scholarships before he left for Boston College.

Martinez has gone after two recruits particularly hard, and it seems as if his efforts are paying off. and #25 overall SG Darmetreis See, who hails from Independence, Missouri, announced on Twitter that he is now down to the following schools: Marquette, Louisville, Xavier, and VCU.

He did not specify them in a particular order, but rumor has it that VCU's success and Martinez's efforts on the recruiting trail have made them the clubhouse leader. Xavier is right behind them, however, and with Mark Lyons graduating this year there is a huge need for See's services. Xavier is also having a good year and have recruited well in recent years, so it would not be a surprise if See decided to take his talents to the Musketeer program.

The other available scholarship Martinez has at his disposal appears as if it will be signed by stud C Ka'Ron Floyd, who is the #64 overall recruit in the ESPNU Top 100. Floyd is from Dallas, Texas.

Martinez is very familiar with the Dallas area considering his time on the recruiting trail with Texas Southern, and that has paid huge dividends in recruiting Floyd. Floyd also posted on Twitter recently, listing VCU, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, and Oklahoma as his final four schools. But if the rumors are true, Floyd plans on committing to VCU once the signing period begins after the NCAA tournament.

Here is the recruiting analysis of these two recruits Martinez has put so much time and effort into this season:

SG Darmetreis See - #25 Overall, #8 SG
                  Height: 6'4''
                  Weight: 206 pounds
                  Hometown: Independence, Missouri

                  Strengths:
                  • Good, but not great, at almost everything.
                  • An exceptionally smart player for being so young.
                  • Reliable outside shooter who can really knock shots when on a roll.
                  • Very good rebounder for being 6'4'' while also being a stellar defender on the perimeter and in the post if need be.
                  • Has a knack for getting in the passing lanes and blocking the occasional shot.
                  • Plays much bigger than his size would let on.

                  Weaknesses:
                  • Not an exceptional athlete.
                  • Very talented all-around player but is not great at any one thing, leading many to wonder what his go-to move will be in the college game.
                  • Could work on his stamina as well as avoiding foul trouble.
                  • Turns the ball over a bit too much and could stand to work on his handling and shot-creation ability.

                  ABL Stats: 14.8 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 4.6 APG, 2.1 SPG, 3.3 TOPG

                  C Ka'Ron Floyd - #64 Overall, #4 C
                  Height: 6'10''
                  Weight: 247 pounds
                  Hometown: Dallas, Texas

                  Strengths:
                  • An absolute load on the inside.
                  • Has outstanding post moves for such a young player and gets into offensive position with ease.
                  • Is virtually automatic in the paint and can also hit a few shots from outside of it as well if need be - he's not a reliability from the free throw line.
                  • Has good hands for a big man and can pass the ball surprisingly well.
                  • Has good feet and can really run the floor for someone his size
                  • Improving as a rebounder each and every game, especially on the defensive end.
                  • Ahead of the curve in terms of defensive position and being a presence in the paint. Good anticipation on block attempts.

                  Weaknesses:
                  • Athleticism is not the name of this player's game - don't expect any DeAndre Jordan-type dunks out of him.
                  • Has questionable shot selection - tends to fall in love with playing outside of the paint a bit too much. Good coaching should help him with this problem.
                  • Gets in foul trouble more than he should; he's still growing into his body and needs to learn when and how to throw it around in the paint.

                  ABL Stats: 11.5 PPG, 11.8 RPG, 2.4 APG, 2.4 BPG, 2.8 TOPG

Coach Logan Martinez received three letters of intent this afternoon, two from a couple of the nation's top recruits in SG Darmetreis See and C Ka'Ron Floyd.

The battle for See was a fierce one between VCU and Xavier - fitting that it was those two schools considering the epic battle the programs had in the first round of the NCAA tournament. In the end, See chose to go with the Rams because the Musketeers had already loaded up and the SG/SF position, signing 2 players in the top 100 to man those spots, one of them being 5-star SF Markus Barlow.

Martinez used his Texas pipeline to get Floyd to commit in what was not a surprise given the mutual interest between the two sides throughout the year.

After the transfer of little used SF Reco McCarter, Martinez had another scholarship to use at his disposal. He offered C Michael Ubaka, a 3-star who is ranked #301 by ESPN. He will likely redshirt next year with some much experience returning for the Rams next year in the front court, along with the addition of Floyd. But at 6'9'' and a stout 255 pounds, Ubaka will prove to be an invaluable piece in the Rams front court for years to come.

ESPN recruiting analyst Dave Telep has the Rams recruiting class ranked at #32 overall.

                    Offseason Recap

Just when the ACC couldn't get any stronger, 5 of the top 10 recruiting classes in the nation are on their way to the conference, headlined by Duke's ridiculous #1 class. The National Championship the Blue Devils won in 2007-2008 is really paying huge dividends on the recruiting front. They will undoubtedly be one of the top teams in terms of talent next season.

Two Legends of the Game Retire

Maryland's Gary Williams and Syracuse's Jim Boeheim have both decided to hang it up.

Maryland made the Final Four in Williams' last season, sending him off on a good note. Creighton's Greg McDermott has left his post as the Blue Jays head coach and will now coach a very talented Terrapins squad.

Meanwhile. Syracuse struggled in Boeheim's last season, finishing 20-13 and missing the NCAA tournament, and he left on a bit more of a sour note than did Williams. David Carter will replace Boehiem as the head man of the Orange. Carter previously coached at Nevada.

                    VCU Coaching Changes

Coach Martinez caused a bit of a stir in the VCU program this week as he released two members of his coaching staff to sign two coaches that he deemed "fit his style" and that he wanted to get a chance to "have his own guys" after inheriting his previous staff from the Shaka Smart regime.

Released - Buzz Riley (Age 40) and Jackson Chavis (Age 44)

Added - Proper Shneiderman (Age 35) and Coach Navy (Age 38)

I wanna add that I don't think I'll be able to post any more videos for this dynasty since my recorder seems to be broken. I'll try to hook it up again at some point but for now I think I'll carry on without it, unfortunately.

I'm already 5 games into the next season, so I have to catch up a bit on my posts. More updates coming soon.

                        Virginia Commonwealth 2010-2011 Roster

Coach Logan Martinez decided to shake his lineup a bit to begin the new season.

He has inserted two talented freshmen and made the difficult decision to have two of his more important players from last season's 28-6 campaign come off the bench.

Brandenburg and Haley will still play an extended amount of minutes, as Martinez has decided to shift to a 9 man rotation instead of stretching it out to 10 or 11 like he has in years past. This will allow his best players to stay on the court for longer periods of time.

                        Starting Lineup:

PG Denver Thomasson, 6'0'' 172 lbs, JR (78 Overall)

                          Colonial Athletic Association Season Preview

VCU looks to be the prohibitive favorite going into the season after going 16-2 in the conference last year and returning almost all of their significant contributors from that squad. 6 of the 9 players Martinez plans to use in his regular rotation are seniors. Along with 2 Top 100 recruits, the Rams have arguably the most talented and experienced lineup in the Colonial Athletic Association.

After one of the more disappointing seasons in school history, Old Dominion looks to rebound this year as their talented, but young roster tries to come together. The Monarchs have the talent to compete with the Rams - in fact, they easily handled VCU in one of their matchups least season. Can they bring that talent all together and make a run?

                          Projected CAA Standings

                          1. VCU (83)

The VCU Rams slept-walked in their 2010-2011 season opener, but they played just enough defense to get by a better-than-expected Columbia Lions squad. Columbia was able to keep up with balanced scoring, but their rebound deficiencies eventually caught up to them and cost them a chance at closing the scoring gap.

VCU's much-heralded freshmen performed well, especially SG Darmetreis See, has he tied for the team lead in scoring with 18 points, showing off a sweet shooting stroke.

Ram SG Iker Pleiness has not been know for his shooting efficiency in his career, but he put up 18 points on a perfect 7 for 7 shooting from the field. He is the back-up PG as well as the starting SG, so Pleiness' role in the offense will continue to increase as the season progresses. He played a sound floor game and more performances like this one will be needed if the Rams hope to attain the consistent success the had last year.

Columbia was able to keep up with balanced scoring, but their rebound deficiencies eventually caught up to them and cost them a chance at closing the scoring gap.

Two seniors who started for VCU last year now come off the bench, but that doesn't mean their role is in any way diminished. Rob Brandenburg and D.J. Haley provided a nice spark off the bench, contributing 21 total points. Brandenburg was strokin' it from downtown, hitting 4 of 8 three-pointers while Haley had 8 rebounds and 3 blocks, giving the Rams an inside defensive presence that just didn't seem to be there for most of the game.
