Good luck against the 76ers. This dynasty is really good, by the way.

Carter-Williams Leads Sixers to Win, Philly Fans Irate
February 12th, 2014
sd.jpg
Salt Lake City - Michael Carter-Williams had an all-around great performance, as he had a statline of 25 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals, which was the key in Philadelphia's win over Utah tonight. These two teams are both last in their respective conferences and 29th and 30th in the NBA. The Jazz are 16-36, and the Sixers are now 12-42.
It's no doubt that these two teams are looking forward to the NBA Draft, with Philadelphia more than likely having the best shot at the #1 pick. This year's draft is being doubted as one of the best since the legendary 2003 class, where we saw LeBron, 'Melo, D-Wade, Bosh, and of course, Darko Milicic.
The Jazz had a few bright spots tonight, though. Enes Kanter had 18 points and 12 boards, while fellow frontcourt player Derrick Favors had 16 points and 11 boards. Trey Burke had 17 points and 3 assists but also had 7 turnovers. Alec Burks had 11 points, and Gordon Hayward had 10, with both of them recording two blocks each.
The Jazz play a week from now against the 16-34 Brooklyn Nets, who have lost 9 of their last 10, but for now, they're looking forward to the All-Star Break. Trey Burke will participate in the Rising Stars Challenge.

Re: Here for the Long Run: Utah Jazz MyGM
NBA on ESPN Power Rankings
Feb. 14th NBA Power Rankings RK (LW) Team Record Next Game 1 () Oklahoma City Thunder
45-10 The Thunder have gotten off to an NBA-best 45-10 start heading into the All-Star Break. OKC is outscoring teams by 13.6 each game. A few minor injuries to Kevin Durant haven't slowed them down in the slightest. 2 () Miami Heat
35-16 The reigning NBA Champions are atop the East at the moment, though they've lost 5 of their last 10. LeBron James is once again the front runner for the MVP award, but Wade's regression (16.2 PPG) might halt their success. 3 () Portland Trailblazers
35-18 Portland is a surprise so far as the 2nd seed in the West, and LaMarcus Aldridge is putting together an MVP-like season. He's averaging 27.2 PPG, 10.9 RPG, and 2.3 APG. He's arguably the best big man in the game today. 4 () Los Angeles Clippers
34-21 Blake Griffin might have a case for best big man in the game, as well. He's averaging 26.5 PPG, 10.1 RPG, along with 4.1 APG. Jamal Crawford has been a surprise, as he's averaging 20.2 PPG. 5 () Cleveland Cavaliers
35-18 Kyrie Irving has taken the next step toward "elite level." He's got 27.3 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 8.0 APG. Dion Waiters has come along as well, but what about 1st overall pick Anthony Bennett? 2.3 PPG. 6 () Houston Rockets
32-21 The Rockets are just 17-17 in conference play, which will have to improve if they want to be a contender in the West. Luckily for Houston, James Harden, Dwight Howard, and Chandler Parsons have meshed well. 7 () Memphis Grizzlies
31-21 Memphis is hot right now, having won 7 straight. Mike Conley might just be the best player nobody's talking about, as he's averaging 19 PPG, 8 APG, and 5 RPG. Impressive. 8 () Indiana Pacers
30-22 The Pacers aren't as dominant as we thought they'd be, but their still 3rd in the East, which might give them an advantage in the Playoffs. Paul George has taken the next step towards being a superstar. 9 () Denver Nuggets
30-21 Denver is tied with Golden State for the 6th seed in the West. They have an astounding seven (!!) players averaging double digit points in Lawson, Chandler, McGee, Foye, Faried, Robinson, and Gallinari. 10 () Golden State Warriors
31-22 Technically, Stephen Curry is leading the NBA in scoring with 29.1 PPG. However, he's played in just 33 games this season, as he's suffered more ankle problems. 11 () Chicago Bulls
28-24 Chicago has only won 4 of their last 10, but with their defensive dominance, they should make a ton of noise in the Playoffs, as long as they can still healthy (looking at you, Derrick Rose). 12 () Washington Wizards
28-24 The Wizards are on their way towards their first winning season since 2008. John Wall is finally living up to the hype, but some injuries have derailed him as of late. 13 () Minnesota Timberwolves
28-26 Even though 'Sota is below .500 in the conference (17-18), they find themselves hanging onto the 8th seed in the West. Arguably the most fun team to watch in the league, the T-Wolves are hoping to make the playoffs for the first time in 10 years. 14 () Detroit Pistons
28-25 Detroit's weird frontcourt experiment is kind of working, for now. They really need to find a way to spread the floor, though, or else they're going to struggle come playoff time. 15 () New Orleans Hornets
26-26 The Pelicans are the first of several odd-men out in the Western Conference Playoff Picture. They're just one game behind the Timberwolves for the 8th seed. 16 () Sacramento Kings
26-27 The Kings are right behind the Pelicans. The shocking thing about Sacramento is that they are 19-14 in the Western Conference, which means they're just 7-13 against the weak East. 17 () San Antonio Spurs
26-28 San Antonio was off to an awful start, but have kind of picked itself up off the floor. They're 10th in the West, and one would think that if they were to sneak into the Playoffs, they'd be a threat to any team. 18 () Boston Celtics
25-29 The Celtics were projected to tank the season away, but Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger had other ideas. Sullinger has broken out as a legit big man, and Rondo is... Rondo. 19 () Charlotte Bobcats
24-29 Charlotte is the 8th seed in the East so far, and Bobcat fans can all thank Al Jefferson for that. He has 21.1 PPG, 10.3 RPG, and 1.5 BPG in his first season in Charlotte. 20 () Toronto Raptors
23-29 Toronto is right at Charlotte's door for the 8th seed, and they are knocking hard. Demar DeRozan is 3rd (or 2nd, if you consider Curry ineligable) in the league in scoring, which is actually kind of mind-blowing. 21 () Atlanta Hawks
22-30 The Hawks get the nod over New York here since they've won 6 of their last 10. Paul Millsap and Al Horford have become one of the best frontcourt duos in the league in Atlanta. 22 () New York Knicks
22-30 The Knicks have won just 4 of their last 10. Injuries have plagued the team as of late, and one would have to consider the year to be a failure if they don't make the playoffs. 23 () Phoenix Suns
20-31 Though the Suns don't have much of a chance of making the playoffs this year, they're still in great shape for the future. Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic are playing sooo well together, they just need a more reliable supporting cast. 24 () Orlando Magic
22-32 Orlando got off to that surprisingly hot start to the season, but they have since fallen back to the cellar of the East. Arron Afflalo was on his way to the All-Star game before he got injured a few months ago. 25 () Milwakee Bucks
21-31 The good news for Milwaukee is that Brandon Knight is coming into his own as a starting point guard in the league. Giannis Antetokounmpo is turning out to be the steal of the draft. 26 () Dallas Mavericks
20-34 The Mavs had a fire sale this past month, as they traded away veterans Vince Carter, Shawn Marion, and Jose Calderon in exchange for Trevor Booker, Danny Granger, and Hedo Turkaglu. 27 () Los Angeles Lakers
20-33 The Lakers have been lost all season, with and without Kobe Bryant, who is currently nursing a broken finger. It's looking more and more like Steve Nash is on his way to retirement. 28 () Utah Jazz
16-36 Utah might have lost to Philadelphia last night, but they don't mind. They're just looking to get as high of a pick as possible, since they've completely fallen off after their hot start. 29 () Brooklyn Nets
16-35 What a disappointment. The Nets are just 16-35 and are 14th in the East. Kevin Garnett is retiring after this season, and there were reports of a Paul Pierce trade at the deadline. 30 () Philadelphia 76ers
12-42 The Sixers are a league-worst 12-42, and it appears that they're gunning for one of the top talents in this year's talented draft class.

Re: Here for the Long Run: Utah Jazz MyGM
Mid-Season Recap
February 13th, 2014
Salt Lake City - The Utah Jazz's season has finally reached the All-Star Break, and they could not be any happier. They need a rest. After starting out with a 9-10 record, they've won just seven games since, as they're now 16-36. But what have we learned from this season so far?
For one, we've learned that Gordon Hayward needs to be a long-term piece. Hayward is averaging a team-high 19.1 points per game, as well as 4.4 rebounds per game, 4.2 assists per game, and 1.7 steals per game. He's also shooting 44.8% from the field and 41.8% from three. Hayward is so close to joining the 20, 5, and 5 club, which is quite the feat. Though he might not be the #1 option that we need in the future, he should be one of the cornerstones of the franchise for years to come.
Alec Burks has also come into his own this season, as he's averaging 17.9 points per game, 4.1 rebounds per game, and 3.2 assists per game. Burks finally broke into the starting lineup, and although it hasn't translated to team success, he's thrived in the role. Burks does need to work on his consistency, though.
Big men Enes Kanter and Derrick Favors have indeed proven that they can play together, as they are both averaging over 11 points per game and 9 rebounds per game. We also learned that Favors is such an important player for this team, as when he went down, the Jazz fell apart, which led to them being the worst team in the Western Conference.
What about the rookie Trey Burke? Burke is averaging 16.3 points per game, which is enough for 3rd for rookies. He's also leading all rookies in assists per game with 7.1 per game. Though he needs to work on his shooting consistency, Burke has shown that he can lead this team in the future.
With just 30 games left in the season, look for the Jazz to experiment in their rotations and let guys like Rudy Gobert and Ian Clark get some opportunities.

Jazz Fall to Lakers in OT
April 14th, 2014
hayward.jpg
Salt Lake City - Neither team really would benefit from a victory, but both teams fought to the bitter end as the Lakers picked up an overtime victory over Utah. The Lakers are now just 35-46 and are out of the playoff picture, while Utah is a Western Conference-worst 26-55 following the loss.
The Jazz finish the season at Minnesota on the 16th. Minnesota is 39-42 and are officially out of the Playoffs.

Re: Here for the Long Run: Utah Jazz MyGM
Not sure what the standings are like, but if there is any possibility for gaining any ground with a win, you may as well sign some streetballers off the mean streets of Salt Lake City to face the Wolves. No sense in going and winning the game or anything, lol.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Jazz Finish Season On A High Note, Knock Off Wolves
April 16th, 2014
burkee.jpg
Salt Lake City - After Philadelphia's loss earlier in the day, the Jazz were locked for either 29th or 28th in the NBA Standings. Since Dallas ended up winning afterwards, the Jazz are now 29th following their victory over the T-Wolves.
Utah flat-out dominated Minnesota in the first quarter, out-scoring them 35 to 8. Then the Wolves made a ferocious comeback in the 2nd and 3rd, outscoring Utah 67 to 45 in the 2nd and 3rd. Utah then got the best of Minnesota in the 4th, picking up the victory to close out the season.
Gordon Hayward was on his way to a solid all-around night, but ended up spraining his ankle in the 3rd. He did not return. Enes Kanter led the Jazz in scoring with 20 points, and he also led the team in rebounds, with 12.
Utah is now looking forward to the offseason, where they can potentially add another big piece to their core.

Haha, yeah, I went into the game with a mindset of just seeing what all of my guys can do. I gave Ian Clark a little more burn than I had all season, same as Malcolm Thomas. I really should have rested Hayward, Favors, and Kanter, though.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus

Re: Here for the Long Run: Utah Jazz MyGM

Season Recap
The Utah Jazz had a rough, rough year, but that was to be expected, right? They had one of the youngest rosters in the league, and many of their young players were just playing to get experience. Let's be honest, some of the guys that played some solid minutes would be riding the bench on contending teams. But that's not to mean that they don't have a bright future.
901193_10200890408405550_971052854_o.jpg
Trey Burke finished the season on the All-Rookie 1st Team
Look at a guy like Trey Burke. Burke struggled at times throughout the year, as he only shot 40.3% from the field and 33.9% from three-point land, but he has shown at times that he can be a legitimate starting point guard in the league. His backup, Diante Garrett, seemed to make a name for himself as well, despite his poor shooting from deep. Garrett might have earned himself a contract with the Jazz next season with his play this year.
Alec Burks was 2nd on the team in scoring
Shooting guard Alec Burks had an up-and-down year. He started out on the bench as the sixth-man for the team, but eventually was placed into the starting lineup alongside fellow back-court players Trey Burke and Gordon Hayward. Burks was second on the team in points per game with 17.4, and he proved that he can be a spark for an offense, either in the starting lineup or off the bench.

Gordon Hayward's future in Utah in uncertain
Restricted free agent Gordon Hayward might have earned himself a max contract this offseason after his stellar year. Hayward averaged 20 points per game, along with 4 rebounds and 4 assists. He was also 5th in the league in steals per game with 2 a game. One would think that Utah would have to match almost any offer that Hayward receives this offseason.

Enes Kanter came into his own this season
Like Burks, Enes Kanter started the season on the bench, but found himself in the starting lineup. Kanter was a force down-low for Utah, showing that he can be a go-to-scorer on the block. Kanter recorded almost 13 points a game, along with 9 rebounds and a block per game. Fellow frontcourt starter Derrick Favors signed a contract extension prior to the season, and he played fairly well. However, he only averaged 9.6 points per game, but the Jazz are hoping that Favors can improve offensively this offseason.
Derrick Favors had a bit of a disappointing season
Overall, it was a successful year for the Jazz depending on the way you look at it. Utah got plenty of minutes for their core, eventually starting their F5 (Fresh 5), and they have a likely-high pick in a loaded draft. The Jazz could see improvement as early as next season.
