            Timberwolves Cut Ties With Watson

The Minnesota Timberwolves have traded point guard C.J. Watson and a 2016 2nd round pick (via DET) to the San Antonio Spurs. In return the Timberwolves will receive a 2015 2nd round pick (via LAL) and the Spurs 2016 2nd round pick. Watson, who was acquired a day before the 2014 NBA draft, was expected to be the primary backup to Rajon Rondo this season. But the former Tennessee Volunteer has been knocked out of the rotation by Zach Lavine all season.

Watson averaged 4.0 ppg and 2.3 apg while shooting 44% from the field and 38% from three in 10.9 minutes a game. Lavine has put up 6.6 ppg, and 3.0 apg while shooting 51% from the field and 40% from behind the arc. During the team's recent winning streak, Lavine has been the first guard off the bench while Watson collected DNP's.

Watson will know head to San Antonio to backup all star Isaiah Thomas, unless he gets passed on the depth chart again.
