CONGRATS CAL FOR WINNING THE CHIP!!

The Cal Berkeley Bears took care of business sending their 7 seniors out with a national title to their name.

After defeating #2 Texas and #1 West Virginia just to make the Final 4, Cal continued their run with a (93-79) win over Duke to make the Championship, where they took on #2 Providence. The Friars defeated #2 Indiana (85-77) in the other Final 4 matchup.

Against OSU, Providence was unstoppable from beyond the arc, but tonight shot just 8/25 from downtown, but despite that this title game still came down to the wire as neither team put up much offense in the 2nd half.

PAC-10 FALLS SHORT IN NIT

Both Oregon and Washington made the Final 4 of the NIT, with the Ducks falling to South Carolina (77-74), well the Huskies defeated Colorado (68-67) to make the Finals.

In the Championship however it was South Carolina coming out on top (77-75).

POST SEASON AWARDS

Syracuse's J. Cox (6'8 SR PF) was named the National POY averaging 23.3 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 1.9 APG, 1.5 SPG and 1.3 BPG this past season. He was also named the Big Man of the Year as well the the Big East POY and was named to the First Team All-American and the First Team Big East.

Niagara's B. Haney (6'7 SR PF) was named the National Mid-Major POY. He averaged 23.3 PPG, 9.4 RPG, 1.6 SPG, and 1.7 BPG.


Providence's Keno Davis was named the National COY despite losing in the title game.


USC's SR PF O. Feeney was named the National Defensive POY, averaging 2.2 BPG despite being just 6'5.


Oregon State's Wallace Ray was named the National FOY. Ray finished the season with a 12.8 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 2.3 BPG average. Many feel like he should've been the National Defensive POY as he blocks per game and SPG were higher then Feeney's. Ray was also named to the NCAA Freshman All-American Team.. Ray was also named the Pac-10 FOY.

Oregon State's Robbie Conroy was named to the NCAA Freshman All-American team. Conroy played in all 33 games this season starting 7. Conroy finished with a 7.4 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 1.4 APG, 1.2 SPG average well shooting 35% from 3pt.

The potential is there, I only lose Sowers from the starting lineup, and Conroy showed he can be a big asset when he get's more minutes. With the recruiting class I have coming in, I believe the team has the talent to win a National Title within the next 2-3 years.

Thanks. I am trying to ride out this 360 legacy for as long as I can, but I did fire up the PS3 the other day when my copies of the game came (the lot I bought via Ebay for $40 bucks came with 3 games and all are actually in really good shape, guess I will be putting a couple back on to resale). I am in the process of trying to get the PS3 2014 rosters loaded on to a USB drive and save it to my PS3, but so far I am doing something wrong, but I did make a few roster tweaks and got some different teams added to the closed legacy list, so I might just start up from 2007, when and if the 360 finally crashes.

COACH DEUCE SIGNS 3 YEAR EXTENSION

Despite multiple job offers (Xavier,Bradley, San Diego State, Nevada, Temple, San Francisco, Cleveland State, N. Illinois and Youngstown State as well as a offer from Northern Colorado), Coach Ryne "The Deuce" Derozan has signed a 3-year extension with Oregon State after coaching the Beaver to consecutive 20 win seasons and a appearance in the Elite 8 this past season.

"I am honored so many schools were interested in me including the school that gave me my very first job, but with the current roster we have and a very good recruiting class coming in, I didn't feel like it was my time to start over. Nothing against those programs either, but once you make it to the Pac-10, ACC, Big 10, Big 12, or Big East the only point in moving backwards in conference prestiage would be maybe a long term contract or dream school offe and for me neither of those were a option at this point"

OREGON STATE LANDS TOP-25 RECRUITING CLASS

Oregon State, adds 5* AA 6’1 PG Antwi Gerlach (#11/#5 Mr BB OR) and 4* 6’7 SG Rhet Goral (#85/#18 Mr BB NV) in Week 1 joining 4* 6’8 PF Emanuel Laws (#41/#6 Mr BB ID) to form a very solid class, but then adds additional depth with 3* 6’5 SG Cam Popoola (3* #202/#45) as well as the signing of 2 players from the Senegal. 4* 6’7 SF Christopher Dieng and 3* 6’5 SG Luke Diawara.

“I am extremely excited about this class. With the group of guy’s returning we will feature a roster with the talent to win a National Title in the next 4 years. At this point we know for a fact Spears and Ray will start for sure, but with the group of guy’s coming in plus Soph Robbie Conroy both SG E. Taft and SF C. Gillingham will need to impress this summer if they are going to keep their starting spots.”

2 PLAYERS LEAVE OSU PROGRAM

Former 2* PF E. Atkins (69 Overall) who sat out last season on a redshirt and Former 3* Walkon PG K. Loughton (68 Overall/75 3pt) have decided to leave the Beavers. Neither player was expected to get much playing time with the 6 man recruiting class coming in plus the 6 of the Top-7 players returning from last season.

"It's always tough to have players leave the program, but both guy's knew their P.T. was going to be limited. Even with both players gone we still have 12 players on scholarship plus JR PF S. Chavez (walkon). Looking to keep a 10 man rotation, chances are we will have 3 guy's on redshirt this season who probably rather be playing too"

ALABAMA LANDS #1 OVERALL CLASS

With a 4 man recruiting class, the Tide have shocked many landing what experts claim to be the #1 Recruiting Class. The class is headlined by 7'0 Keith Stone from Memphis Tennessee. The 5* AA was the #16 Overall Player in the Class and the #2 Bigman in the country. Also signing was 5* AA PG J. Poole (#10 Overall/#4 PG Mr BB GA), 4* SG C. Gennie (#36/#12 SG) and 3* PG D. Maxiell (#129/#38 PG)

USC LANDS #2 OVERALL CLASS

The USC Trojans have won the past 3 Pac-10 titles, finishing the year as the #1 team in the country in both polls and went into the NCAA tournament as the #1 seed in the East. Despite losing 3 starters to the NBA, the Trojans once again look to stay exacting where they are amongst the best of the best as they land the #2 class. USC lands 5 players including 5* AA PG J. Merchant the #2 Overall and #1 PG in the country (Mr BB CA).Joining Merchant on what looks to be a very deep bench will be5* AA PG C. Pearson (#25/#8 PG),4* SG T. Christy (#32/#10),4* SG R. Dalida (#34/#11) and 3* PF N. Bright (#105/#17)


Rounding out the Rest of the Top-15 is UConn #3, Kansas #4, Texas #5, Kentucky #6, Iowa State #7, NC State #8, Ole Miss #9 Vanderbilt #10 Duke #11, Wisconsin #12, TAMU #13 Louisville #14, UNC #15

PAC-10 ONLY GET'S TOUGHER

With Pac-10 Champs USC landing the #2 class everyone would think they will have a easy time staying a top the Pac-10, but USC and OSU where not the only Pac-10 teams to land solid recruiting classes this off-season.

Washington State landed the #17 Overall Class, well Stanford was ranked #21, Washington was #33, Cal the defending National Champs were #39, Oregon was #56 and Arizona State was #66

2014-2015 SEASON PREVIEW

Expectations are at a all time high in Corvallis. Memories of just 8 wins 2 years ago are now a distant memory as the Beavers have now posted 2 straight 20+ win seasons on Coach Deuce and now coming off a Elite 8 appearance with just 1 starter graduating, most feel like it's a Final 4 or bust type season with a Top-25 recruiting class joining in the mix.

Midnight Madness kicked off with the Soph Robbie Conroy joining last year's starters to play for the Black team, with SR D. Garner as the main sub.

JR Walkon PF S. Chavez went to Team White, as the starter in the post joining the Freshman quad of Gerlach,Goral,Dieng and Laws. With Poopola and Diawara playing as the subs.

As expected the upperclassman won the game, but Coach Deuce and those in attendance got a nice look at the future of OSU Basketball.

2 major decisions where made from the game. JR SG E. Taft (78) started all 33 games last season well averaging (11.0 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.1 BPG, 37% 3PT) but will move to the 6th man role and be the primary guard off the bench, opening the door for 5* AA Mr Oregon BB A. Gerlach to join former 5* AA Mr Hawaii R. Spears (83) in the backcourt. Spears will look to improve on last year's #'s of (9.8 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 6.6 APG, 1.5 SPG, 34% 3PT) and become the double digit scorer that most expected he would be.

SR C. Gillingham (81) held onto his starting role on the wing. Despite missing 7 games with a injury, Gillingham finished with a career best 10.2 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 2.5 APG last season well hitting 36% from 3pt.


Taking over a PF will be 6'10 SO Robbie Conroy(79). Conroy played in all 33 games last season and started the 7 games Gillingham missed, averaging 7.4 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 1.4 APG, 1.2 SPG well shooting 35% from 3pt.

One spot that had zero competition was at Center. SO Wallace Ray(78) will look to duplicate a Freshman campaign that saw him named the National FOY and Pac-10 FOY. The former 3* recruit averaged 12.8 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 2.3 BPG last season starting all 33 games for the Beavers.


Joining Taft on the bench and joining 6'9 JR walkon S. Chavez (71)-averaged 8.4 PPG 3.3 RPG last seasonas one of the primary bigs off the bench this season will be 6'8 Freshman E. Laws (76) the former 4* Mr Idaho BB Rounding out the bench is 6'8 SR D. Garner (73) who returns for his final season after playing in all 33 games last season averaging 4.2 PPG and 3.1 RPG well shooting 29% from 3pt and 6'6 FR C. Popoola (73).

Popoola beat out 6'8 FR R. Goral (4* Mr BB NV) as well as both C. Dieng (76) and L. Diawara (71) for the final spot due to his 3pt shooting ability (83, highest rated on the team)

Coach Deuce

"The decision to redshirt Goral and Dieng was tough as I love their size but my hopes are they will be able to use this season to work on the 3pt shot and next season compete with each other to be a 4 year starter for our team. With Diawara he offers us another great 3pt shooter (80), but being the lowest rated player on the team, felt like sitting this season would be a good chance to adjust to the college game"

WILL THE BEAVERS WIN 20?

Coming off a Elite 8 appearance, Coach Deuce was hoping that OSU would be able to play a tougher non-conference schedule to help better prepare his young bench for a possible tourney run again. He got his wish, but now the question is will he be able to continue his 6 year run of 20+ wins.

OSU (87 Overall) will open the season playing in the O'Reilly Auto Part CBE Classic, playing in the D Division with a opener against Butler (78 OVR). Joining them in the bracket will be N. Arizona vs Coastal Carolina

The Beavers will then return home for a 4-game homestand taking on Coach Deuce's former team (Northern Colorado-86 Overall), Portland (81 Overall), and Portland State (75 Overall) and UNLV (87 Overall).

OSU then hit's the road for 3 straight Top-25 Battles vs Big Ten teams. Up first is #4 Indiana (91 Overall), #13 Wisconsin (89 Overall) and #23 Ohio State (88 Overall)

Oregon State will then close out non-conference play at home vs San Diego State (81 Overall) and Boise State (77 Overall)

"We are excited for this Pac-10 vs Big 10 showdown. I really think it will allow us to see just where we rank among some of the nations best and help us prepare. Could it mean a possible 7-3 type record in non-conference? Maybe but that's just something we will have to live with. Hopefully we can improve on our Pac-10 play and pull out some wins there that will still get us among Top-25 talk this season."

Looks like a tough schedule but you've got a pretty good squad at Corvallis. Hopefully you'll be able to improve on last year's performance and the 360 will be able to ride it out with you.

What a run to the Elite Eight! Congrats on another 20-win season and Elite Eight appearance. The squad looks really good for next year but so does the competition. Hopefully we see the Beavers in the Final Four and even the championship game. Good luck this year! Hopefully the 360 holds out for you

Thanks. It's funny I almost didn't offer Popoola a scholarship because he was only a 3* but then he came in and is my highest rated 3pt shooter so I am glad I did. Chances are he won't ever start but it's always nice to have a guy on the bench who can come in and knock down some big 3's when you fall behind early or late in games.

You are correct. Normally in my first couple of years I stick to games vs regional rivals or teams like (Portland,Portland State, Boise State ect..) which I still put on the roster, but felt like I would do a Big 10 vs Pac 10 rivalry this year to add some Top-25 teams to my non-conference schedule. The Wisconsin game will be a rematch from last year's Sweet 16, which I only won by 2 points so we will see how that goes.
