Thanks. Well I love playing and posting NCAA Football and MLB "The Show" as well, College Hoops holds a special place in my heart as it was the first game I ever started threading about. I think what I love most about college basketball as well as Football is the shorter season's and the ability to get through multiple year's more quickly.

If there end's up being a solid roster for NCAA14 this fall, you could find me back on the football boards again. With Boise State's current QB and RB situation, they would give me a run for my money in keeping them among the non-power elite. The projected starting QB and only QB on the roster with playing time last season was arrested today for drinking as a minor and running away from the cops. The Good news is his 40 time was pretty solid. This should open the door for the possibility for true FR Brett Rypien (nephew of former WSU and NFL QB Mark Rypien) to take over and hopefully become a 4 year starter.

I had a feeling you stay at OSU..PAC brought in some young ballers should be a real battle for the PAC regular season and toruney crown

If UNC had made the offer I probably would of jetted only because they are on my short list of schools I followed and watched growing up, however I do have a very good team returning and I have 3 guy's who redshirted last year who in normal years would've been big contributors to my team, so well my class this year was only 1 player I will have 4 new guy's to work into the rotation.

This year's Pac-10 haul was insane. I can't remember being a part of a conference that had 5 schools brings in Top-20 classes including 3 in the Top-5.

USC was already good enough and now with that class, they are going to be tough to beat. I was finally excited to see Washington maybe take a step back after losing Samuels, but now they went out and landed 2 great players who will likely be 4 year starters (unless they leave early) and Cal just 1 year removed from winning the National Title has done a great job of bringing in yet another solid class. I expect them to be back among challenging for another title in 2 years.

Yeah I still have to win at least 7 more to pass the original Coach Derozan (his dad). However at this point my goal isn't about just National Titles, but about seeing if I can keep this legacy going as long as Superjames as done with Coach Frizzell.

I thought I was in trouble when my 360 started acting up a couple weeks ago, but I cleaned it really good and so far I havn't had any more issues (knocking on wood)

If you could do this itd be great.

It sucks when the college hoop dynasties die out in the off season.

Congrats on the National Title and Coach of the Year. I guess Roy Williams never got fired at North Carolina. I'm glad you're staying at Oregon State though. None of those job offers would interest me too much either.

                  BEAVERS START YEAR IN TOP-25!

For the first time in school history the Oregon State Beavers will start the year in the Top-25 Media Poll at #6, as they look to defend their National Title. (I will post the entire Top-25 in a later post)

With 4 starters returning and former starter Eugene Taft rejoining the unit after having a great year last season as the team's 6th man, OSU has the talent to repeat but will face a very difficult road this year. (We will have more on the roster during the team preview)

Last season OSU finished with the #1 RPI in the nation after going 10-1 vs Top-25 opponents including a 3-0 record vs the Big Ten (Indiana,Ohio State, and Wisconsin).

This season Oregon State didn't back down from any challenges, as they will play a 3 game series against the Big 12 (@ #2 Kansas, @ #17 TAMU, vs #12 Texas)

                  Coach Deuce
"We are super excited about this Pac-10 vs Big 12 challenge. Hopefully we can have the same success we did last year vs the Big Ten. Playing the Jayhawks in Lawrence however is one of the toughest road games any team could face"
The Beavers schedule will also feature the season opening at home vs 2 schools from the MWC as San Diego State and #14 UNLV comes to Corvallis.

OSU will also face 2 schools from the WCC, as they will host Gonzaga and travel to Portland to face a growing instate in the Portland Pilots.

Another key game to highlight on this year's schedule is a road game on 12/7 @ Northern Colorado. The Bears starting 5 are all Seniors this season and is the last group of players Coach Deuce recruited to Greeley before departing. You know this group of kids would like nothing more then to hand their former coach a loss.

Oregon State will finish off their potential 14 game non-conference schedule with 2 trips to the Big Islands, as they will play in both the Hawaii Inventational and the Hawaiian Island Classic

                  Coach Deuce
"I wanted to give Ridley Spears a chance to play in front of friends and family in his final season. We originally were going for a road game vs Hawaii, but ended up with opportunities to play in both tournaments. With both tournaments being 3 rounds, he will get plenty of opportunities to showcase just how far he has become as a player in his career here at Oregon State"

                    2016 TEAM PREVIEW

The Defending Champs return 4 starters for the 2016 season including Senior PG/SG Ridley Spears (86 OVR), who was named a 1st Team Pre-Season All-American.

The former 5* Recruit and Mr BB from Hawaii hasn't become quite the scorer Coach Deuce has envisioned when they signed him but has had a pretty successful career thus far. A 3 year starter (106/106), Spears has averaged 10.5 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 4.3 APG and 1.3 SPG well also shooting 36% from 3pt (139/383). Spears currently is generating 2nd Round Buzz among the NBA scouts, but has come out on paper and said he plans to come out this season and really showcase his ability to play at the next level.

With Spears moving to SG last season former 5* AA, Mr BB OR Antwi Gerlach (84) ran the point last season averaging 8.1 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 3.8 APG, 1.5 SPG well shooting 43% from 3pt (57/133), well taking home Pac-10 FOY honors.

With Gerlach and Spears in the backcourt, former starting SG Eugene Taft (82), moved to the 6th man role where he averaged 11.2 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 1.6 APG well shooting 40% from 3pt (63/156). Now he is back in the starting unit taking over at SF for his final season as a Beaver.

JR R. Conroy (83) returns to the PF spot where he started 40/40 games last season averaging 8.2 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 1.8 SPG, 1.4 SPG.

Fellow JR 7'0 W. Ray (81) also returns to man the middle where he has started the past 2 seasons (73/73 games). Ray finished last season as the teams leading scorer 15.0 RPG, well also grabbing 4.4 RPG, and blocking 2.0 BPG.

This year's Bench will see alot of new faces.

6'8 SO E. Laws (79) will move to the 6th man role this season after averaging 7.2 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 1.3 BPG last season in 34 games played. The former MR BB from Pocatello Idaho missed most of the NCAA tournament but did manage to play in the championship game scoring 6 points.

6'9 SR Sidney Chavez (73) went from a walkon to receiving a scholarship this season. In 3 years Chavez has been a workhorse off the bench appearing in 106 games including 6 starts. He has a career average of 7.8 PPG, 3.1 RPG well shooting 46% FG.

6'6 SO SG Cam Popoola (76/85 3pt) will most likely take over as the first guard off the bench. The former 3* appeared in all 40 games last season averaging 4.2 PPG, 1.1 RPG, and 1.2 APG well shooting 37% from 3pt (30/80).

Joining the bench this season are 3 Redshirt Freshman who will give Coach Deuce his deepest bench yet.

6'8 C. Dieng (79) and 6'8 R. Goral (78) will play multiple spots this season well 6'5 L. Diwara (73/81 3pt) will give the team another deep threat and backup guard.

With 11 active players already in uniform, Coach Deuce made a big decision in deciding to Redshirt 7'0 FR J. Richard (74)

                    Coach Deuce
"It was a tough decision to have Richard sit out this season, but when we started looking at our current Top-10 recruiting board it was very heavy with SG/SF guy's who could score points and be potential replacements for Spears/Taft. With Chavez and Laws both showing they could give us solid backup minutes behind Ray, we felt it was best to allow Richard a chance to come in next season and be a key reserve and then still have 3 years to start"

#1 Alabama (92) returns 4 starters that made it to the Final 4 before losing to OSU. Once thought of as a football school the Tide have quickly become a SEC power as well as a national power on the hardcourt.

#2 Kansas (90) returns 4 starters, after missing the NCAA tourney in 2014, the Jayhawks made an Elite 8 run last year before losing to OSU. They will get a chance at revenge as they will face the Beaver at home on 11/24

#3 Louisville (92) returns 4 starters from a squad who made it to the Final 4 of the NIT last year. Now they will look to change that to the NCAA this season.

#4 UCLA (91) returns just 2 seniors, after losing in the 2nd Round, but 1 of those is 1st Team Preseason AA 6’9 Center Andre’ Benton (89)

                      #5 Washington (92) returns 3 starters, that includes 1st Team Preseason AA J. Ross-Williams (88) at PF

#6 Oregon State (90) returns 4 starters led by 1St Team Preaseason AA R. SG R. Spears (86). Can the Beavers repeat and win 34 again?

#7 North Carolina (93), Coach Williams returns along with all 5 starters (4 JR’s) after finishing in last place in the ACC last season.

#8 Flordia (88), has 3 senior starters including SG B. Morgan (87), but havn’t made it past the Sweet 16 in the past 5 seasons, including a 1st Round upset 2 years ago.

#9 Wisconsin (91) will hope to find success in Year 1 of the post Bo Ryan era, after being turned down by Coach Deuce.

#10 Duke (91) Coach K starts the year with 976 wins. Will he reach 1000? Only if the Dukies go deep into the tourney.

#11 Oregon (90). The Ducks just miss out on a Top-10 spot after making a Sweet 16 run last season. UO has 4 Seniors in the starting lineup including Center E. Rickert (90) who was named a 2nd team Preseason AA.

#12 Texas (90), has just 1 SR on this year’s roster (starting SF Prosper Roberts-89). The Longhorns dance has ended in Round 2 in both of the last 2 seasons. Can they make it to a Sweet 16 this season?

#13 Tennessee (89) returns 4 starters (including 3 SO’s) from a team that made an Elite 8 run last year.

#14 UNLV (89) just 3 years ago was a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament after finishing the year as the #1 team in the country. 3 of those players are now senior starters. Can they do it again?

#15 Villanova (91) has been to the NCAA the past 2 seasons and will look to end that drought this year.

#16 NC State (89), has a very young team with 7 Soph’s including 3 starters. Look for them to challenge in the ACC but we expect bigger things in 2 years out of this squad.

#17 Texas A&M (89). The Aggies made it to a Sweet 16 as a last 4 in (#11 seed). With 4 starters back, they are hoping for at least duplication.

#18 Oklahoma (88), The Sooners snapped their drought of not making the NCAA tourney only to lose in the first round to #9 Colorado. Can they do better this year in a very tough Big 12 conference?

#19 Texas Tech (92). The Red Raiders are that veteran team you just don’t want to face come tourney time. TTU has 3 SR’s including PG S. Mulic (88) and SG C. Galbreath (88) as well as 5 juniors including 2 starters.

#20 Georgia Tech returns 3 starters from a squad that handed OSU one of only 4 loss’s last season, with a 1st Round exit fresh in their minds, look for them to make some noise this year.

#21 USC (91) is the 5th Pac-10 team to make the poll. 2 years ago they finished #1 in the country but lost to Oregon State in the Sweet 16. Now with 1st Team Preseason AA SG D. Turek (90) and the #1 Recruiting class in the nation including starters R. Harmon (78) and J. Claudinio (79), the Trojans believe they can be that team again.

#22 Notre Dame (90). The Irish made the tourney last season as a last 4 in and with 4 starters returning hope to repeat with another NCAA appearance this season.

#23 Oklahoma State (87) returns 3 starters that lost in the 2nd Round last year, however with 6 other Big 12 teams ranked ahead of them, they will have a tough time just getting to the dance this season.

#24 Cincinnati (88) The Bearkats return 3 senior starters from a squad that made the tourney last year as a #4 seed.

#25 Clemson (87). The Tigers have 5 Seniors (3 starters) returning from a squad that made the ACC tournament championship team and lost in the 2nd Round to OSU in the NCAA tourney.

                        BEAVERS OPEN SEASON WITH WIN!

#6 Oregon State opened the 2016 with a (77-68) victory over the San Diego State Aztec's but the win did not come without a cost.

Just 8 minutes into the game, SR Eugene Taft making his first career start at SF would drive the lane, hitting the layup well drawing the foul for the "and 1" play, as he hits the floor hard. Problem was Taft would come up holding his shoulder and had to be escorted off the court to the locker room. SO E. Laws the teams new 6th man would come in and replace him knocking down the freebie well finishing out the half in which OSU would lead by just 2 (36-34).

At halftime, the Beavers got news nobody wanted to hear. Taft would be unable to return in fact the team doctors were reporting the shoulder was separated and Taft was going to be out for the next month (26 days). With Taft out of the lineup extra minutes would go to the trio of RS Freshman (Goral,Dieng, Diawara) but none would light up the stat sheet.

7'0 W. Ray carried the load as he was named POG posting a double double of 17 pts and 11 reb well also rejecting 5 shots!!

Joining Ray in double digits was E. Laws (12 pts), S. Chavez (11 pts) and A. Gerlach (10 pts).

UP NEXT (1-0) OSU WILL HOST (0-1) #14 UNLV.

                          REBELS HAND BEAVERS 1ST LOSS!!

The UNLV Rebels came into Corvallis licking their wounds from a (81-69) loss to #19 Texas Tech in Lubbock, but healed quickly as they jumped out to a (51-46) half time lead.

OSU playing without E. Taft and without E. Laws the man who replaced him in the starting lineup (3 early fouls, then fouled out early in the 2nd half) would struggle to get anything going offensively in the 2nd half as the team shoots 0/8 from 3pt after going 7/12 in the 1st and with less then a minute to play UNLV put the final nail in the coffin with their own 3, as OSU goes to (1-1) on the year.

                          FINAL SCORE #14 UNLV-88 #6 OSU-80

6'11 Tim Blue led the Rebels with 33 points going 11/19 from the floor including 2/2 from 3pt and 9/9 from the F.T. line.

All-American R. Spears led OSU in the loss with 24 pts including 5/8 from downtown (5/5 in the 1st 0/3 in the 2nd??)

SR S. Chavez playing extended minutes at SF scored 17pts, grabbed 6 rebs and blocked a career high 4 shots well fellow bigman 7'0 W. Ray had 13 pts 9 reb and 2 blks.

                          Coach Deuce
"UNLV is a good team but this is still a tough loss. I really felt like we had a chance with the way we were shooting in the 1st half, but nothing would drop in the 2nd. Sometimes that happens and we just have to move on"
DESPITE THE LOSS, OSU DOESN'T MOVE IN THE RANKINGS AS THEY STAY AT #6. UP NEXT OSU WILL HOST (0-0) GONZAGA

                            COACH DEUCE WINS #200!

At just 33 yrs old and in his 9th season as a Head Coach, Coach Ryne Derozan II "The Deuce or Coach Deuce" has done what many coaches dream about. He grabbed win #200 in his career, improving to 200-77 Overall.

                            Coach Deuce
"Winning 200 games at the Division I level is a great accomplishment (attribute point earned), but I am not gong to dwell on it too long because I have still have 800+ more to go if I am going to catch Coach K or surpass my Dad (the Original Coach Derozan)"

Leading (54-39) against the Zags at the half, Coach Deuce once again gave extra minutes to his trio of RS Freshman, but once again each would fail to do much (combined for 8 pts). Soph C. Popoola however did step up as he hit's 3/3 from 3pt to score 13 pts and SR S. Chavez also stepped up as he has taken over the 6th man role contributing 16 points to lead all bench scorers.

But the real hero's tonight was the starting unit where 4 of the 5 starters hit double digits as OSU just missed surpassing the century mark in the big double digit win

                            FINAL SCORE OSU-97 GU-70

                            W. Ray was named POG as he finished with a team high 22 pts and 8 rebs.

                            R. Spears added 13 pts (3/6 3pt) well also grabbing a team high 9 rebs and dishing out a team high 6 assists.

                            R. Conroy (11 pts) and E. Laws (10 pts) were the other 2 to hit double digits.

UP NEXT (2-1) OSU WILL TRAVEL TO HAWAII FOR ROUND 1 OF THE HAWAIIAN INVITATIONAL, FACING OFF AGAINST (2-0) PURDUE)

You've come a long way since my last reading. I got some catching up to do

Tough loss to UNLV, good to see Spears has developed so well since his relatively quiet freshman year. You need some toughness inside!!! 33 points to the big man??
