Buzzer beater loss at Texas, that's tough. I haven't been beaten at the buzzer, but Loyola Marymount did get a basket with 4 seconds left to beat me, so I kind of know how that is. Nice start in Pac-10 play though, and you really seem to own the state right now with 7 straight wins against Oregon.

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
Nice to see you have caught up on some reading and thank you. Now the question is can I do it again. Any time you have 8 of your 10 players returning and 4 of 5 starters, it almost feels like you have to make another run. However this season has been tough, I already have more loss's then last year and I still have half my Pac-10 games to go.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
BEAVERS FAIL TO OVERCOME 1ST HALF MELTDOWN
#4
Despite the Huskies not having 3 time Pac-10 POY PG C. Samuels and despite the fact that Pre-Season All-Amercian PF Joe Ross-Williams picked up 2 early fouls in the 1st half and played just 13 minutes the entire game, Washington cruised to a double digit victory as they surpassed the century mark in the 104-93 victory.
Taking over for Samuels at the point is SR D. Padilla (former 5* Rated #21 Overall and Mr BB WA) from nearby Renton WA. Padilla did his best Samuels impression as he carried the Huskies to a (52-43) 1st half lead in which the Beavers were not able to overcome.
Padilla finished the game with a double double taking POG honors with 23 pts (5/11 3pt) and 11 assists.
He was joined in the 20 point club by JR SF A. Moss (former 4* Mr BB NV) who scored 22 pts (3/4 3pt) and 7'0 SR G. Alford (former 3* Rated #109 Overall) who also posted a double double with 20 pts and grabbed a team high 10 rebs.
Robbie Conroy led the Beavers in the loss with 16 pts and a team high 9 rebs well, Spears and Taft each added 15 pts each but shot just 3/11 from 3pt.
As a team OSU was just 6/24 from downtown.
Coach Deuce"We knew going we would have to play our best game to beat the Huskies and tonight we just didn't do it. Anytime you trail by double digits in the 1st half you have just dug yourself a hole that is hard to get out of. Sometimes you get lucky and have a couple guy's get hot from 3pt and you can overcome that lead, but tonight that just didn't happen for us. Washington got great production from 3 different players tonight and that was even without Ross-Williams who is one of the best players in the country. All we can do now is put this one behind us and move forward to next weeks game @ WSU"Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
Only time will tell. I have pretty much the same roster as last season in terms of my top scorers, so I feel like if I play my game I can beat anyone but it is really going to come down to matchups come tourney time.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
GAME OF THE WEEK
#8 (19-6)@ #3 (18-1)
GAME PREVIEW
The Huskies enter the game riding a 12 game win streak and are a perfect 10-0 in Pac-10 play. So far their closest game was 98-87 OT win at Oregon, since beating Oregon State 104-93 in Corvallis last month. For OSU this is a must win if they have a chance to winning the Pac-10 title. With 2 loss’s already (1 being against the Huskies) the Beavers can’t afford #3.
KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH
UW-SR PF Joe Ross Williams. Williams picked up 2 early fouls and played just 13 minutes in the last meeting, but comes into the game leading UW in scoring at 17.3 PPG.
OSU-SR SG R. Spears. Spears is currently 2nd in scoring at 13.2 PPG for the Beavers and is shooting a career best 41% from 3pt (50/122) but is coming off a 0/9 performance against Stanford.
INJURY NEWS
SR PG D. Padilla (12.9 PPG, 4.6 APG) is listed day to day with a pulled quad (5 more days). Padilla led the Huskies in the last meeting with 23 points hitting 5/11 from 3pt, well also dishing out a career high 11 assists.
1ST HALF HIGHLIGHTS AND TAKEAWAY'S
Oregon State came away with a (46-45) lead at the break, after K. Strong missed a 3pt with 3 seconds to play to try and give the Huskies the lead JR Angelo Moss was there for a put back slam at the buzzer.
Washington’s
D. Padilla is showing zero signs of his pulled quad injury holding him back as he scores a game high 16 points (4/5 3pt) to lead all scorers as he is named “Player of the half”
Despite playing 11 minutes in the 1st half, Ross-Williams is held to just 2 pts as he goes 1/3 from the field.
7’0 SR G. Alford finds himself in foul trouble playing just 4 minutes but 6’8 SO Cary Simon (former 4* Mr BB AK Rated #42) comes in and gives the Huskies 10 points off the bench.
R. Spears looking to bounce back from one of his worst games in his career comes up big for the Beavers as he scores 10 points (2/3 3pt).
Like Alfrod, OSU’s 7’0 W. Ray also plays just 4 minutes after 2 quick fouls, but 6th man S. Chavez comes off the bench and scores 7 points.
OSU also got 7 points from C. Popoola off the bench as he it’s his only 3pt attempt.
As a team Oregon State shot 5/12 from deep. Well Padilla was 4/5 from deep, the rest of the Huskies shot a combined 1/9.
KEY'S TO VICTORY IN THE 2ND HALF
OSU must continue to get to the line where they are 13/16, they must also contain Padilla without giving up the points to Williams and must cut down the Huskies 2nd attempts (6 Offensive Rebs in the 1st half)
UW must work on keeping Ray in foul trouble and continue to crash the boards, as well as find someone else besides Padilla and Simon to score some points.
STAY TUNE FOR THE 2ND HALFComment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
BEAVERS HIT 10/11 FROM DEEP IN 2ND HALF UPSET!!
After leading up just 1 point going into the locker room, the Oregon State offensive exploded in the 2nd half as the team hit's 10/11 from beyond the arc hitting the century mark with over 5 minutes still to play in the game.FINAL SCORE OSU-119 UW-95
SR R. Spears was the man of the hour as he goes 4/4 from downtown to finish with a team/season/career high 32 points well also dishing out 8 assists.
The 32 points is the most by a Oregon State player since Coach Deuce took over (Taft and Ray each have scored 31).
Spears wasn't the only Beaver to have a career night. SO SG Cam Popolla finished perfect from downtown hitting 3/3 in the 2nd half (4/4 for the game) to finish with a season/career high 20 points.
D. Padilla finished with a team high 21 pts but was just 1/3 from 3pt in the 2nd half after going 4/5 in the 1st.
UW's J. Ross-Williams played a total of 23 of the 30 minutes (15 minute halves) and finished with 8 pts, 6 reb, 4 ast, and 4 stls.
Coach Deuce"This was a huge win for us. In fact I would put it up there as one of my Top-5 victories in my career. The guy's were on fire tonight (15/23) and when they are shooting like that it's just fun to sit back and watch"Last edited by Deuce2223; 05-03-2015, 11:32 PM.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
BEAVERS MOVE UP TO #4!!!
Oregon State followed up their upset win over Washington with a pair of victories over Cal (80-67) and Washington State (80-70)
With the pair of wins, Oregon State is now riding a 8 game winning streak with 4 games left to play. The Beavers (22-6) record is also good enough to move them up to #4 in the latest Top-25 Media Poll and #6 in the Top-25 Coaches Poll..
Against Cal, E. Taft led the way scoring 24 points hitting 4/7 from 3pt, well R. Spears added 13 hitting 3/3 from 3pt.
Against WSU, it was A. Gerlach scoring a career high 18 points hitting 3/7 from 3pt and W. Ray leading the way with 20 points.
UP NEXT (22-6) OSU PLAYS HOST TO (19-9) UCLA AND (19-7) ARIZONA STATE
Coach Deuce"Even though we are riding a 8 game winning streak and shooting the "3" the past 3 games very well, I know it's going to take our best efforts to beat the Bruins and Sun Devils. UCLA will be looking for revenge for our win at Pauley Pavillion and ASU always plays us tough especially last season. It's been great having everybody really stepping up on offense, because it really keeps other teams from being able to key on 1 player"Last edited by Deuce2223; 05-04-2015, 01:40 AM.Comment
