Tough loss, rough night from beyond the arc. Hopefully the Buffs'll bounce back against Oregon State. You left a good team there despite some of the games they lost this season, the Beavers might be too much.

You are a man of vision my friend. Played it last night and will have posted today. It's always tough to play your former team the first year after you left.

BUFF'S AND BEAVERS BATTLE TO BUZZER IN OT !!

When Coach Deuce left Oregon State, he knew he was leaving behind a chance to make NCAA history. The Beavers roster was loaded with talent, talent good enough to make a run at a 3rd straight title and with a Top-10 recruiting class coming in, some felt like OSU under the guidance of Coach Deuce could have built a dynasty matching the likes of Coach Wooden and the UCLA Bruins.

Instead Coach Deuce left for Colorado for the chance to coach his good friend TJ Youngblood in what could be just a 1 and done season.

        SR Wallace Ray
"No disrespect to Coach D, but he made a mistake leaving us. I know Youngblood is his boy, but we had something special here. Well I appreciate everything he did for us, we are going to show him tonight who the better team is"

        GAME RECAP

The sold out crowd at Gill Coliseum got more then their money's worth tonight, as this game was a back and forth affair from start to finish.

OSU did their best to try and contain TJ Youngblood, but the star freshman still managed to score 16 points to lead Colorado to a (47-47) half time score.

For the Beavers it was 6'8 SO SG R. Goral leading the way with 10 points well JR PG A. Gerlach added 8 pts and 6 assists.

In the 2nd half it continued to go back and forth until about 6 minutes to play in the game when OSU would make a 10-0 run leaving most in the stands to feel like this game was over. However Youngblood wasn't going to go down without a fight, as he hit 3/3 from deep to get his team back into the game and with 1:31 to play the score was tied once again.

With 30 seconds to play it looked like OSU was going to try and hold the ball for a last shot, but FR SG J. Bauer comes up with a huge steal and takes it coast to coast for the dunk to give Colorado the 2 pt lead with less then 15 to play. Oregon State however would manage to break the press on the inbound and at the buzzer, Goral comes up huge hitting a 15 foot jumper to force Overtime!!

In the OT period, the both offensives continued to pour it on as each team traded basket for basket. Once again OSU had the ball with a chance to win with less then 20 seconds to play but again the Buffs come up with a huge steal by FR PG D. Torres who take it in for the 2 handed dunk to make it 110-108. (his only points of the game). But again the Beavers answer as W. Ray hits a jumper from the F.T. line to tie the game (110-110) with 4.2 seconds to play.

Coach Deuce would call the timeout and draw up what he hoped would be the winning shot. Ridnour took the inbound as the Buffs looked to put the ball into Youngblood's hands. The Beavers set up in the press and were ready as A. Gerlach comes up with a huge steal and then hits a buzzer beater "3" to give the Beavers the win.

        FINAL SCORE OSU-113 CU-110

        Coach Deuce
"I am not going to lie, this loss feels like I got kicked in the balls. I knew I left a great team behind and they showed it tonight. YB did his best and gave me 110%, but in the end the we came up short. I have to give Gerlach credit he came up huge there, I honestly still don't know how he grabbed the steal"

        KEY PLAYERS

Youngblood led Colorado with 33 pts (career/season high) 6 reb, 4 assists, and 5 steals as he went 8/20 FG, 7/13 3PT, and 8/9 FT.

        H. Rodgers added 21 pts, Ridnour had 15 and 7 and J. Bauer had 14 despite going just 2/6 from deep. Torres finished with 8 assists to go with his 2 points.

        V. Curtis led the bench unit with 8 pts and 7 reb.

For OSU all 5 starters hit double digits, led by Goral's POG performance of 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals (all career highs).

        A. Gerlach turned in 22 pts on 4/9 3pt and had a team high 9 assists.
        W. Ray had 16 pts 7 reb and 6 blks, E. Laws had 14 pts 9 reb and 5 stls, well C. Dieng had 15/5/3/3.

        C. Popoola led the bench unit with 11 pts well FR T. Damon and J. Torbet were DNP.

UP NEXT (9-3) COLORADO WILL RETURN HOME TO FINISH OUT NON-CONFERENCE PLAY VS UTEP AND BOISE STATE

          BUFF'S CLOSE OUT NON-CONFERENCE PLAY WITH W'S!!

The Buffaloes rebounded from back to back loss's with a 84-59 victory over the UTEP Miners.

TJ Youngblood was named POG with his 4th double double of the season as he leads the team with 19 pts and 13 rebs hitting 4/6 from deep.

          P. Ridnour added 15 pts and 5 reb, well H. Rodgers had 11 pts 7 reb and a season high 4 blks.

          D. Torres coming off just 2 points in the loss to OSU also finished in double digits as he hit 2/4 from 3pt to score 13.

**I originally thought I had scheduled UNLV here, but I guess we don't get to see a Youngblood vs Jenkins matchup unless they meet in the tourney**

The Buffs improved to 11-3 as they closed out non-conference play with a (88-59) victory over the Broncos.

This game was over at halftime as CU led (53-28). The Buff's get a new career high from Youngblood as he goes off for 37 points hitting 7/10 from beyond the arc. He also added a team high 14 rebounds for his 5th double double and lead the team with 6 assists.

          P. Ridnour added 16 pts and 9 rebs fall just 1 shy of a double double, well A. Werner led the bench unit with 16 pts.

Well Youngblood was 7/10 from 3pt, the rest of the team combined to go just 4/17 including a 0/7 performance from JR SG J. Mallory (ouch, didn't realize I jacked up that many miss's)

(11-3) COLORADO WILL OPEN UP WITH BIG 12 PLAY AT HOME VS (9-3) OKLAHOMA

            BOARD MEMBER NON-CONFERENCE RECAP!

With the month of December in the books, here is a look at how some of the best Freshman in the country are playing as the Non-Conference play comes to a end.

            TJ Youngblood (Deuce2223)

Youngblood has moved up to #2 in the nation in scoring at 25.6 PPG, but his RPG #'s have taken a hit as he no longer averages a double double (9.8 RPG). However a a 4.0 APG and 1.6 SPG along with 50% shooting% from 3pt (52/104) he is still among the favorites to win the NCAA POY and FOY.

NBA scouts till have YB projected as a 1st Round pick

            Jackson Freeman-80 Overall (Southernmedalhead)

Freeman followed up his strong play in November with another strong month as he makes his case for the SEC FOY award.

Jackson is averaging 14.1 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 3.4 APG an 1.4 SPG well shooting 47% from 3pt (36/77) he has started all 14 games in which the Gators are 11-3.

Freeman is currently projected as a Dark Horse in the upcoming NBA draft.

            Kendall Jenkins-78 Overall (Beast10)

Jenkins has struggled with injuries (now day to day with a sprained wrist-14 days) but when he does play starting 5/5 games, he has been the Rebels best player leading the team in scoring (16.8 PPG0 well also averaging 2.8 RPG and 2.0 APG. Not really known for his 3pt skills he has hit 8/20 (40%)

Despite Jenkins limited PT, UNLV is currently (15-2) and ranked #13 in the Top-25 Media Poll.

Because of Jenkins limited PT, he currently hasn't generated any NBA buzz.

            Rex Robinson-80 Overall (Vicebeliever42)

Well the Ducks are just 8-5 this season, no blame can be put on Robinson. The former #1 Overall recruit has done a solid job thus far leading the team in scoring (16.2 PPG) well also averaging 4.2 RPG, 1.2 APG, 1.0 SPG, well shooting 42% from 3pt (33/79) starting all 13 games for the Ducks.

Like Youngblood, there is a chance Robinson could be a 1 and Done as NBA scouts currently have him projected as a Lottery pick.

            Trayvonn Damon-76 Overall/95 3pt (Wonzer21)

For Damon, Coach Deuce announcing he was leaving for Colorado was the worst news he could have heard. Despite having the teams best 3pt rating Trayvoon has struggled to find minutes on a very deep OSU bench, appearing in just 3 games and playing a total of 4 minutes. He is currently averaging just 2.0 PPG after scoring 6 points on his 2/2 performance from deep.

Damon has still been very outspoken about his desire to transfer, only time will tell if he get's his wish.

FOR THOSE FOLLOWING, I DIDN'T MAKE ANY RECRUITS FOR THE CURRENT SEASON, HOWEVER I HAVE PM THOSE WHO I WOULD LIKE TO CREATE RECRUITS FOR NEXT YEAR, WHEN COACH DEUCE SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST 5 SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE.

              AROUND THE NATION NON-CONFERENCE RECAP

              STILL #1

Kansas started the season as the Pre-season #1 and finish non-conference play in the same spot after a 14-0 start. The Jayhawks are dominating opponents with 6 games over the century mark as they lead the nation in scoring at 95.1

              OFFENSE LEADS TO GOOD TIMES!!

Kansas isn't the only school benefiting from a high scoring offensive attack. UNC is currently #2 in the nation with a (13-2) record and it so happens they are #2 in the country in scoring at 93.1

With Oregon State struggling in the post Coach Deuce Era, #3 Washington (13-0) and #8 UCLA (14-1) are looking to take over the Pac-10. The Huskies just like their Top-25 ranking currently rank #3 in the nation in scoring as well at 92.1, well the Bruins are in the Top-10 at 86.2

              #4 UConn (14-1), #5 Providence (13-1), #6 Notre Dame (11-2), #7 Tennessee (12-1) and #10 Alabama (12-3) also are among the Top-10 in offense

              STILL PERFECT

Joining Kansas and Washington with perfect records are 4 other teams including 2 in the Big 12.

Charlotte is off to a (13-0) start which has landed them at #9 in the Top-25, well San Diego State also has a perfect (13-0) record to put them at #16

Just how tough will the Big 12 be? Well #15 Iowa State (12-0) and #25 Baylor (13-0) made it through non-conference play perfect but this week that will change for 1 of them as they open Big 12 play against each other in Ames. Should they Cyclones win at home then they will put their record up against Kansas in Lawrence the following week.

              WHAT ABOUT THE LITTLE GUY'S

Gonzaga has made a name for itself around the nation after years of trips to the NCAA tournament. However after Coach Few's departure to Syracuse the program fell on tough times. Now it appears the Zag's are back after a (11-2) start has them sitting at #1 in the Mid-Majors Poll.

Joining Gonzaga among the best of the Mid's are #2 Utah State (10-2), #3 Rider (12-1), #4 UALR (9-2) and #5 Bradley (12-4)

              WHERE ARE THEY NOW

After opening the year with loss to Colorado, the Bears followed it up with a loss to Florida State on the road to start 0-2. But then NC won 4 straight including wins over LMU, Boise State, and Wyoming, but then lost 4 of their next 6 including (Utah, UCLA, Colorado State and San Diego State) to finish Non-conference play 6-6.

The Beavers finish non-conference play 9-4 which was good enough to stay among the Top-25 Media Poll at #24 and their #12 RPI could still land them among the top seeds come tourney time if they can manage a strong showing in Pac-10 play.

What is Coach Deuce's record versus his former teams? After the loss to Oregon State, I recall you struggling against Northern Colorado as well.

Likewise, I don't think you've ever lost to Boise State.

I will have to go back and look, I am pretty sure I went 2-2 against Northern Colorado well at OSU and now beat them with Colorado so that makes me 3-2 against them, obviously this was the first meeting against OSU so I am 0-1, making me .500 total.

I believe I lost to Boise State well at Northern Colorado, in either Year 2 or 3 again I will have to look.

BUFFS START OUT BIG 12 PLAY 2-0

Colorado opened Big 12 play hosting Oklahoma. After going into the locker room up (35-23) behind 21 points by TJ Youngblood it looked like this game was over. However the Sooners would open up the 2nd half with a 12-0 run to tie the game and make things a little interesting for awhile. Youngblood however would not be stopped, as the freshman sets a new career/season high scoring 40 points on 16/20 FG, 4/7 3PT, 4/6 FT as the Buffs cruise to the victory (77-63).

Youngblood added a team high 7 rebs and 4 assists to his 40 point game.

Nebraska has never really been a basketball power, but they came into this game with a 10-3 record, led by 6'8 SR SF JC Capel out of Longmount Colorado (13.1 PPG, 4.1 RPG).

The Youngblood vs Capel matchup lived up to it's hype as this game wasn't decided in regulation after Capel hits a bucket at the buzzer to force O.T. However it was Youngblood who got the final bucket as he hits a deep "3' to give the Buffs the (70-69) victory.

Youngblood takes home POG honors with his 6th double double of the game (18 pts 11 rebs) well SR H. Rodgers adds 11 and 8 to join him in double digits.

Capel actually led all scorers with 22, well fellow SR D. Draybn added 13 in the loss.

With the Buff's offense struggling all eyes can look to Colorado's shooting from beyond the arc. Youngblood went 3/5 from beyond the arc, but the rest of the team combined to go just 6/20, including a 1/9 performance from the bench.

UP NEXT (13-3) COLORADO WILL TRY AND DUE THE IMPOSSIBLE HANDING #1 (16-0) KANSAS THEIR FIRST LOSS OF THE YEAR

It will be interesting to see. Well he is putting up huge #'s in his Freshman year, there are several Seniors putting up similar #'s like K. Morales a SG from Providence and a Gabe Nash a PF from Indiana

Also there are 3 guy's Mid-Majors who are putting up huge #'s including the Leigh's Bill Costello who is averaging a double double still at 21.4 PPG, 10.8 RPG, 1.4 SPG and 1.5 BPG. I have a feeling he will win he Mid-Major award if he keeps up those #'s.

                          BATTLE TO THE BUZZER!!

                          GAME PREVIEW

Coach Deuce came into the game 1-4 vs the #1 ranked team in the country, but he also came in with a 1-0 record vs Kansas having beaten the Jayhawks in Lawrence last season well at OSU. Now he was looking to make it 2-0 in front of a sold out crowd at the Coors Event Center.

Could Coach Deuce and the Buffaloes do what 16 other teams hadn't done so far this season? Kansas State came close as they just missed out on upsetting their instate rivals (64-62) earlier in the week, but the Jayhawks rebound from that narrow defeat to wipe the floor with #12 Iowa State who was also undefeated beating the Cyclones (82-65).

All eyes will be on the SF matchup of 6'7 SR Alan Massogo (former 4*, Kansas Mr BB) vs the 6'9 FR TJ Youngblood. Massago considered to be one of the best players in the Big 12, enters the game with a team leading 17.9 PPG well Youngblood has proven he is by far not only the best freshman in the Big 12 but the nation as well and with a 25.6 PPG average is showing he is also won of the best scorers in the nation (currently #2).

                          GAME RECAP

Kansas takes a (52-43) lead at the half behind a balanced attack that has 3 players in double digits led by SR PG K. Koger off the bench with 14 (5/7 FG 2/2 3pt, 2/2 FT) well SO SG J. Worthington and JR PF J. Wente each have 10. Massogo was held to just 2 points going 1/4 FG.

Youngblood carried the load for the Buffs with a career high 25 1st half points. Starting SG J. Bauer was limited to just 1 minute of PT after picking up 2 early fouls leaving J. Mallory to play extended minutes as he scores 6 points hitting both of his 3pt attempts.

In the 2nd half, Massogo heats up and scores 16 points hitting 4/5 from 3pt, but for every bucket Massogo hits, Youngblood answers him. Colorado however didn't have to rely on just Youngblood in the 2nd half as fellow FR P. Ridnour steps up to score 16 points in the 2nd half including a bucket with 28 seconds to play to make it a 3 point game (98-95). Down by 3 and with the shot clock not in effect, Coach Deuce knew his team would need a defensive stop in order to try and force Overtime. With 7.2 seconds to play, Colorado would get that stop, as Rodgers steals a pass and outlets to Youngblood who takes a deep "3" to tie the game with 3 seconds to play (98-98). Rodgers again would come up huge on the inbound play grabbing yet another steal, but his shot at the buzzer would fall short as this game was going to O.T.

Having just come off a O.T. win at Nebraska, the Buff's came out jacked as the crowd was going wild. Youngblood had already surpassed his career high with the 3 point to tie the game (46 points) but YB wasn't done. Another "3" a minute into O.T. game Colorado a 5 point lead and that's all it took as Kansas fails to make a comeback and with 3.3 seconds to play Youngblood steps to the line to seal the win with a pair of Free throws.

                          FINAL SCORE COLORADO-122 KANSAS-115

Thanks for catching that. I fixed it. You are correct though, so far it's been the Bears, Beavers and now Buffaloes. If I get my wish i will end my career as a Bronco.

With 50 in the book, it is my hope to try and get Youngblood in the 60 point club. However in order to do that, I am either going to have to up my minutes played or hope for a double OT game or just have him take every shot.
