Tough loss to UNLV, good to see Spears has developed so well since his relatively quiet freshman year. You need some toughness inside!!! 33 points to the big man??

Thanks for checking in my friend. Moving Spears to SG has really helped him finally become the scorer I thought he could be. Hopefully he can put up even better #'s this season because it would be nice to finally get that NBA draft pick attribute.

As far as Blue scoring 33, probably 12 of those came when I was trying to press and get turnovers to get back in the game and 9 of those came fouling him in hopes he would miss some F.T's. Ray is a pretty dominating force in the post, but I have noticed when he goes up against some of the better centers in the game he does tend to pick up early fouls which leads to less P.T.

200 wins, congrats. You really bounced back against Gonzaga after that loss to UNLV.

BEAVERS FALL SHORT IN TITLE GAME!

The Oregon State Beavers fell short this week in their quest to win the Maui Invitational falling in the Championship game to #13 Villanova.

OSU opened the tournament with a (94-64) win over Purdue, as all 5 starters hit double digits led by All-American R. Spears (17 pts 8 assists) but POG honors went to Senior S. Chavez who once again is excelling in the 6th man role as he scores 20 points and grabs 6 rebounds.

In the Semi-Finals, the Beavers took on the Brown Bears who pulled out a (69-66) upset win over #21 Clemson in Round 1.

However the Bears were not match for the Beavers, as Oregon State held Brown to just 45 points including just 15 in the 2nd half as they go on to win (99-45).

OSU once again got solid production from all 5 starters plus another great game by Chavez who lead the bench unit with 15 points as he matched his season average.

          W. Ray was named POG after leading the team with 28 pts 8 reb and 2 blks.

Going into the Championship game, Coach Deuce knew his team would have to duplicate the past 2 games if they had a chance to beat the Cats. Villanova came into the game 4-0, including a (84-55) win over #11 Texas in the Semi Finals.

Turnovers would plague the Beavers in the 1st half which would lead to them trailing (43-35) at the break. Down by 8, OSU would try and shoot their way back into the game from beyond the arc, but with their best shooter still sidelined (Taft), Oregon State would fail to get any closer then 3 with less then a minute to play.

OSU did have 1 chance with 21.1 seconds to play to make it a 1 point game, but R. Spears 3pt attempt rimmed in and out, forcing a intentional foul. Now down by 6, Spears would come through hitting a 3pt to make it that 3 point lead, but once again after a failed steal attempt, the Beavers were forced to foul. After making the first of 2 F.T.'s with 5 seconds to play, Villanova would miss the and 2, but was right there for the rebound and quick bucket. Game over..

          FINAL SCORE VILLANOVA-82 OSU0-76

4 of Villanova's starters scored in double digits led by 6'6 Soph SF Jimmy Hatten (19 pts).

          R. Spears led the Beavers in the loss scoring 20 points on 5/9 3pt shooting
          A. Gerlach and S. Chavez each added 11 pts, well W. Ray was held to a season/career low 7 pts. Ray did however manage a team high 9 rebounds and 3 blks though.

WITH THE LOSS, OSU IS NOW (4-2) AND DROPS TO #20 IN THE MEDIA POLL. THINGS DON'T GET ANY EASIER NEXT WEEK AS THE BEAVERS HEAD TO KANSAS TO FACE THE #6 (5-1) JAYHAWKS

            A NEW FAB 5?

With 7'0 FR Jibrahn Richard (74 OVR) redshirting this season, Coach Deuce went into the season with 4 scholarships to offer, leaving many fans talking about a new possible Fab 5 in Corvallis next season. With past recruiting class's in the Top-10, Beavers fans were excited because rumored among the group of players Coach Deuce had targeted early included the #1 player in the country and another trio of 5* talent. Here is a look at the current 4 scholarship offers.

#1 on the Beavers board is 5* SF Rex Robinson (Vicebeliever42) out of Portland Oregon. Robinson quickly burst onto the recruiting radar after leading Central Catholic High School to a state championship this past year in Portland's 1A division. At 6'7 201lbs, Robinson is mix of SG and PF. He can shoot lights out from beyond the arc, yet also led the league in rebounding, but whats more is he is also a great teammate who doesn't just score but also plays solid D.

Being a instate kid it was a no brainer that Coach Deuce would go hard after Rex but the problem is Oregon has also offered and for some reason has jumped to #1 on his board (OSU is at 91%). Robinson is also getting strong looks from USC, UCLA, and Washington but so far only the Oregon schools have offered.

#2 on the Beavers Top-10 board is another 5* SF. TJ Youngblood (Deuce2223) is the #4 Overall player in the country and #3 SF in the class. Youngblood is from Boise Idaho but is currently enrolled at Fruitland High, a small 3A school 50 miles north of the capital city, where he has led the Grizzlies to 4 straight title games wining both 2 of them. Like Robinson Youngblood is a classic 3 position player at 6'8 220 lbs he has the size to play in the post, but his 3pt touch is one of the best in the nation. Youngblood is also a great teammate as he has lead the Grizzlies in both scoring and assists all 4 years of high school.

His unselfish play however has not gone unnoticed by other power programs and despite a very close relationship to Coach Deuce who first met Youngblood trough family friends, currently has Colorado #1 on his Top-5 board , with OSU at #2 (97%). USC, Arkansas and Minnesota round out the list.

Trailing on both Robinson and Youngblood, Coach Deuce quickly offered up scholarship #3 to yet another SF, this time in the form of 4* Treyvonn Damon (Wonzer21). Like Robinson, Damon is a instate kid playing his high school ball at Molalla High in Greshman Oregon. The shortest of the 3 at 6'6 and just 185 lbs, Damon future could be a SG as a potential replacement for Spears or Taft. Like the previous 2, Treyvonn can flat light it up from beyond the arc earning the shortened nickname "Trey" from teammates and fans. With back to back high schools championships on his resume, Damon would like nothing more then to help OSU win title #2. Rated #133 Overall and the #31 SF in his class, Damon has the Beavers #1 on his list at 100% ahead of the Ducks who have yet to offer a scholarship.

#4 on the Beavers Top-target list is 5* AA Mr BB (OR) Norman Hughes, A 5'11 PG and teammate of Robinson's at Central Catholic in Portland. Rated #11 Overall and the #4 PG, Hughes is a perfect replacement for R. Spears in the starting lineup next season, but like Robinson, Hughes has OSU #2 on his board with the Ducks sitting at #1, despite saying he is 100% interested. With both schools offering it's going to come down to probably where Robinson signs as it looks like both players want to stay together.

Despite having 3 SF's Ranked 1-3, it has not stopped Coach Deuce from naming 6'8 Kendall Jenkins(Beast10) #5 on his target list. A 4* Rated #37 Overall and #8 SF out of Las Vegas Nevada, Jenkins is beast of a rebounder. In fact he led the country in rebounding the past 2 seasons well leading his school to 2 straight high school titles. Unlike the previous 3, Jenkins get's his points from driving the lane and finishing hard. In fact several of his high flying dunks have already been showcased on Sportscenter's Top-10 plays of the week. It remains to be seen how Jenkins would fit in Coach Deuce's offense as the SF is typically one who can shoot the 3pt so it's likely a move to PF would be in his future should he land a scholarship offer and become a Beaver.

Jenkins currently has a scholarship on the table from the UNLV Rebels who are #1 on his Top-5, but he does have OSU #2 and say's he is 100% interested. USC, Arizona State, and BYU round out the rest of his Top-5.

Landing at #6 is the first non-west coast recruit, but 5* Jackson Freeman (Southernmedalhead) is everything Coach Deuce loves in a player. A 6'4 SG, Freeman is Rated #6 Overall and the #1 SG in the nation. Out of Tallahassee Florida, Freeman quickly jumped onto the radar of every instate school getting scholarship offers from both Florida and Florida State as well as Georgia Tech, leaving OSU at #4 and just 64% interested.

            Coach Deuce
"I am disappointed. When my staff first showed me tapes of Freeman, I fell in love. The kid is a gym rat who never leaves the court without shooting at least 100 3's but what's even more impressive is his speed. The kid just fly's down the court. I don't like our chances against the instate schools, but we are will keep him on our list just to see where he ends up"
If you are interested in having a recruit join the legacy, jump in and comment on the thread. The more comments left will put you on next year's list of 5 players who will be added to the pool. (gsutiger) already has spot #1 but that still leaves 4 more available. Current followers with recruits will go back into the mix once their player becomes a Junior or leaves for the Pro's.

Yeah I knew going in, it was going to be tough every 1st Round game had a Top-25 team. Brown did me a favor and beat Clemson to give me a easy 2nd round game, but I knew Texas or Nova would be tough in the Championship.

Honestly I am not feeling very good about recruiting. I really want Robinson and Youngblood. My hope was to get both plus Damon putting Damon at SG, Robinson at SF and Youngblood at PF next season allowing me to move Conroy back to the 6th man role next year. Now it is looking more like it's going to be just Damon and I am really not looking forward to having to face Hughes and Robinson at Oregon either. At this point I am considering pulling the offer on Robinson or Youngblood and flipping it over to Jenkins in hopes of jumping UNLV on his list.

I was hoping, but honestly it's not looking good. I don't have a great history of jumping other schools once I fall behind. Inseason starts this week after I play Kansas and TAMU, so I will know soon (tomorrow)

I actually had a past legacy where I had guy's create players and I ended up with 6 of them on my roster at UC Davis creating a true Fab 5.

BEAVERS DEFEAT JAYHAWKS IN DOUBLE O.T.!!!!!

                      GAME PREVIEW
When the season started, Kansas was ranked #2 in the nation well Oregon State was #6.

The Jayhawks started the year 5-0, lost their first game last Friday night in Colorado as fell (100-87) to the Northern Colorado Bears, who are off to a hot start at (6-1) with wins @ Arizona State, @ UNLV, @ Virginia Tech and a home win over Iowa as well.

For OSU hopes of repeating as National Champs was on everybody's mind but to do so, the Beavers would have to prove they were the best by beating the best. Tonight would be one of those challenges.

                      GAME RECAP

If you are a fan of the 3pt shot then this was a game for you, as both teams combined for 60 attempts from beyond the arc, with 25 of them being made. Including several key shots that made Sportscenter Top-10 plays of the week.

In the first half, Oregon State's R. Spears connects on a "3" to give the Beavers the 3 point lead going into the half (46-43).

Then in the 2nd half, it was JR Robbie Conroy who would catch fire as he connects on 4/5 from downtown including back to back 3's that gave OSU a 5 point lead with under a minute to play

Kansas however was not willing to give up as Alan Massago answers back with his own "3' to make it a 2 point game with 30 seconds to play. After a failed steal attempt, the Jayhawks were forced to foul as they would send SO PF E. Laws to the line. Laws just 2/6 from the stripe would miss his first attempt but hit his 2nd to give OSU the 3 point lead yet again. Kansas would then hold the ball for the last shot of the game, once again putting it in Massago's hands who comes through with the buzzer beater to force O.T. (98-98).

In O.T. both teams would trade basket for basket including another pair of 3's with less then a minute to play but the big shot of the night belonged to that of SO SG C. Popoola who hit's his 3rd "3" of the night at the buzzer to give OSU the 3pt victory..

                      FINAL SCORE OSU-118 KANSAS-115

                      KEY PLAYERS

                      A. Gerlach-12 pts (0/5 3pt) 7 assists
                      R. Spears-13 pts (2/5 3pt) 5 assists 3 steals
                      R. Conroy-22 pts (4/5 3pt) 6 reb
                      E. Laws-13 pts (3/8 F.T.) 6 reb
                      W. Ray-22 pts (8/12 F.T.) 9 reb 4 blks
                      C. Popolla-13 pts (3/6 3pt)
                      R. Goral-11 pts (Career high)
                      S. Chavez-9 pts 4 reb

                      A. Massago-21 pts (3/5 3pt)
                      W. Thomas-18 pts (2/3 3pt) 6 reb
                      E. Avery-16 pts (2/2 3pt) 6 reb
                      A. Annen-15 pts (2/5 3pt 6 reb
                      A. Holman-7 pts 11 reb
                      C. Coulibaly-8 pts (2/4 3pt) 6 assist

                      Coach Deuce
"When I called the timeout with the game tied 115-115, I told the guy's to just look for the best shot. We have inbound plays that work well for us, that typically leave a guy open on the wing for a pretty good look from 3pt, and it just happened that Popoola was the main who got that pass. He is our best shooter from 3pt, so I was pretty confident as soon as it left his hand it was good"

UP NEXT #20 (5-2) OSU WILL TRAVEL TO COLLEGE STATION TO TAKE ON #24 (5-1) TEXAS A&M

                        BEAVERS GRAB ANOTHER ROAD WIN!!

                        OPPONENT PREVIEW

The Aggies entered the game (6-1) coming off a huge win over Stanford on the road where they handed the Cardinals their 1st loss of the year (was 6-0 at the time). TAMU's only loss of the season however came at home vs Ohio State (3-3) as they scored just 47 points (58-47).

TAMU is led by 7'1 JR T. Torres(83 OVR) who is averaging 17.6 PPG, 7.2 RPG and 2.1 BPG, as well as a talented SR led backcourt of PG G. Akingbade(86 OVR) 11.2 PPG and SG A. Sommerville(83 OVR) 12.1 PPG

                        GAME RECAP

Tied at (33-33) at the half, Coach Deuce knew his team would need to find a answer for 7'1 T. Torres who was dominating the Beavers in the post with W. Ray on the bench with 3 early fouls. Torres led all players with 18 1st half points.

With Ray still on the bench, S. Chavez would start the 2nd half and despite a 4 inch size disadvantage do just what OSU need as he held Torres to just 5 points in the first 5 minutes of play as Oregon State built a 6 point and with less then 2 minutes to play that lead had increased to 10 which was the deciding factor as the Beavers improved to 6-2 on the year well picking up their 2nd straight road win over a Top-25 opponent from the Big 12.

                        FINAL SCORE OSU-77 TAMU-67

The win was a team effort as E. Laws led the Beavers with a team high 13 pts. R. Conroy added 10 well L. Diawara led the bench unit with a career high 11 pts.

Torres would finish with 29 pts and 7 rebs in the loss, and was the only Aggie in double digits.

OREGON TAKES THE LEAD FOR #1 CLASS

Last season we saw USC sign 4 5* All-Americans including the #1 player in the country as they finished with the #1 Overall Recruiting Class. Now just 1 year later it's another team from the Pac-10 who looks ready to take home that honor.

The Oregon Ducks have already received commitments from 4 of the nation's Top-100 players including 3 5* prospects including the #1 player in the country in Rex Robinson (Vicebeliever42). Joining Robinson in Eugene next season will be his high school teammate Norman Hughes (#11/#4 PG, Mr BB OR) as well as 5* SG Edwin Stephenson (#17 Overall/#7 SG) out of Oakland CA. This trio should give Coach Ernie Kent a reason to stick around long enough to win 500 (currently at 449). Rounding out the class is 4* PG 5'10 H. Schiffner (#97 Overall/#37 PG) out of Seattle WA

With Robinson and Hughes both signing at their biggest rival, Oregon State did get some good news. #1 was the signing of Treyvonn Damon (Wonzer21), as well as #2 the announcement that TJ Youngblood (Deuce2223) was not going to commit to Colorado during the in-season recruiting process but would instead wait until this off-season to make his decision (now up to 97%, but still #2).

With Robinson and Hughes scholarship offers now available, Coach Deuce quickly offered to 6'8 Kendall Jenkins (Beast10), but Jenkins said thanks but no thanks as he agrees to stay close to home and play for the Running Rebels of UNLV.

OSU also lost out on 5* SG Jackson Freeman (Southernmedalhead) who like Jenkins will be staying close to home as he agrees to play for the Florida Gators.

Despite the signing of Damon and the pending scholarship offer on Youngblood, Coach Deuce quickly made 2 more scholarship offers to SF's. Offering up a scholarship to 6'5 Attarrius Harmon a JC FR from Seattle WA. Rated a 5*, Coach Deuce hopes to strike lighting twice as Harmon has a similar skill set to current Beaver E. Taft who also was a JC transfer. (OSU currently leads the race to sign Harmon as they are #1 on his list at 87%)

The final recruit to receive a offer is 6'9 Shamell Phillips out of Mesa Arizona. A 4* Recruit, rated #69 Overall and #13 SF), Phillips is a versatile player who fits the mold of several current Beavers. (OSU is currently #1 and the only school offering at 79%, with Arkansas and TCU #2 and #3)

                          Coach Deuce
"Well we are extremely disappointed in not landing Robinson and Hughes, we are excited that Damon has chosen us and that Youngblood is still keeping his options open. Well Robinson would've been a star on this team, we feel good about the prospects of Harmon and Phillips. Both players offer us similar skill sets that we like out of our SF. However at this point in the year, we will also be looking at some of the best PG still available and could very well switch up our current offers to better build our team for the future"

I was really hoping he wouldn't have signed week 1 of in-season so I could have flipped my offer from Robinson to Jenkins, but in the end I get neither Now my only hopes is I can somehow land Youngblood.

UNLV has been great in my legacy finishing the year as the #1 team in the country and grabbing a #1 seed in the tourney. Landing Jenkins is just going to keep them rolling too, because I noticed they landed a couple other players as well.
