Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
COLORADO CRUISES IN OPENER
The Colorado Buffaloes and Coach Deuce cruised in their 1st Round action against Wofford with a (82-60) victory on Thursday.
CU lead (42-28) at the half hitting 4/5 from deep. In the 2nd half the Buff's would struggle from beyond the arc hitting just 4/12 but still managed to add to their double digit lead as 4 of the 5 starters hit double digits.
TJ Youngblood continued his strong play as he finished with team high's in points (16) rebounds (11) assists (6) and steals (2).
Fellow Freshman PG D. Torres (10) J. Bauer (13) and P. Ridnour (14 and 4 blocks) also hit double digits, well JR swingman A. Werner led the bench with 10 points as well.
COMMITTEE GET'S THEIR MATCHUP
When the selection committee put #11 Nebraska winner of the Big 12 tourney into a possible 2nd Round matchup with Colorado, Coach Deuce was less then trilled. Now the scenario has become reality as the Cornhuskers defeat #6 BYU (59-55) behind a double double by SR J. Capel (17 pts 11 reb).
JACKSON SCORES 21 BUT GATORS STILL LOSE
The #10 Gators failed to upset #7 Pitt in the opening round but don't blame FR SG Jackson Freeman (Southern Medal Head). Jackson scored a team high 21 pts (4/9 3pt) and had a team high 4 assists in the (76-69) loss.
JENKINS LEADS #1 UNLV TO VICTORY
Despite hitting just 3/10 from the field and missing all 6 attempts from 3pt, FR Kendall Jenkins (Beast10) still managed to score 16 points as he hit's 10/12 from the stripe in #1 UNLV's (92-67) win over #16 Northwestern St.
The Rebels will need Jenkins to find his shot however in their next matchup as they take on #9 Texas who defeated #8 Miami FL (81-79) in opening round action.
OSU STRUGGLES IN WIN
The Oregon State Beavers quest for a 3-Peat almost ended on Thursday, as they Harvard battles to the final minute but comes up short in their upset bid (66-60).
Pac-10 POY SR Wallace Ray led the Beavers with 20 pts 9 reb and 5 blks.
Freshman Trey Damon (Wonzer) was a DNP.
The Beavers however got lucky when they later found out that #12 Loyola (IL) defeated #5 Indiana (77-56) to possibly pave the way for OSU to make to the Sweet 16.
UPSET CITY
#12 Loyolo (IL) and #11 Nebraska were not the only team's to pull off a upset in the opening round action.
#10 NC State defeated #7 Hofstra (70-58) to move on for the chance to play #2 Providence .
And in the Midwest we saw a pair of upset's that could play into Colorado's hands.
#10 Florida State defeated #7 UALR (60-57) well #15 Florida Gulf Coast defeated #2 Tennessee (77-59) to setup a Cinderella Round 32 matchup, with the winner to face the Colorado or Nebraska.
Coach Deuce"I am not going to lie, myself and the entire team was pullin for FGCU once they took that (44-28) lead at the half"
ROUND 1 OFFERS PLENTY OF OFFENSE
7 Teams scored over 100 in Round 1 action well 7 more scored over 90. Here is a look at some of the high scoring affairs.
#1 Villanova vs #16 Arkansas Pine Buff (94-35)
#3 UNC vs #14 Illinois State (98-72)
#7 Duke vs #10 Iowa State (104-67)

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
ROUND 32 NEWS
BUFF'S GET REVENGE
Colorado vs Nebraska was never much a rivalry until this season but it has sure turned into one now.
During the regular season during their only meeting CU came out on top winning in OT (70-69) after blowing a 15 point 1st half lead.
Then in the Big 12 tournament, Nebraska ended the Buff's tourney in the Quarter Finals with a (79-73) win and then went on to win the Big 12 auto bid to lock their spot in the Dance.
Now in Part III, it was Colorado getting their revenge using a 3pt at the buzzer in the 1st half to propel them to victory.
Tied (34-34) Youngblood comes up with a huge "3" at the buzzer to give CU the lead, which in turn ended up being the difference maker as the Buff's win the game (68-64) to advance to the Sweet 16. For Coach Deuce this will mark his 4th straight trip to Sweetness and his 6th Overall.
The matchup of Youngblood vs Capel lived up to it's billling but it was the Freshman coming out on top, as YB has back to back cames with a double double scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds as he hits 4/9 from deep.
Capel finished with 14 in the loss as he hit's just 2/5 from beyond the arc. Fellow SR D. Drabyn (former North Dakota Mr BB) has 18 pts as well in the loss.
FSU BEATS FGCU FOR CHANCE TO PLAY BUFF'S
Big Brother came out on top in their quest for for Sweet 16, as FSU defeats FGCU (95-72) as they move on to face Colorado in the next round.
Coach Deuce"Obviously we were cheering for the Eagles.FSU is a good team. They won 22 games this year playing a schedule that gave them the #37 RPI".
JENKIN'S STRUGGLES, UNLV FALLS
FR Kendall Jenkin's NCAA struggles continued in the Round of 32 as he scores just 6 points hitting 2/11 from the field well going 0/4 from deep as Texas builds a (42-27) 1st half lead to propel them to the 9 point win (73-64)
OSU WINS BIG, WILL HAVE TO FACE #1
Oregon State rebounded from their 1st round struggles with a huge (90-66) win over #12 Loyola IL, to setup a the Sweet 16 matchup with #1 Villanova who beat Big East rival Georgetown (85-67).
SR Robbie Conroy led the way with a double double of 18 points and 10 rebounds well E. Laws and W. Ray each scored 17 points in the win.
COMMITTEE HAPPY WITH RESULTS
The Selection Committee got a lot of slack when they handed Washington a #1 seed, but the Huskies looked like the real deal as they outscore Oklahoma State (47-31) in the 2nd half to cruise to the (91-78) victory.
The Huskies will face #5 Ole Miss who defeated SEC Rival #4 Alabama (71-69)
The Committee also got several other Sweet 16 matchup's they were hoping for.
This year's #1 team Villanova vs the 2-time Defending Champs. (OSU)
#7 Duke beating #2 UCLA (82-65) to setup a matchup with ACC and instate rival #3 UNC. The winner will face off against either Villanova or OSU.
#1 UConn beat Big East rival #8 Marquette (78-63) and will have to do it again as they now face #5 Louisville who beat #4 G. Washington (78-76).
#9 Texas vs #5 Gonzaga will also get lots of TV views. The Zag's beat #4 Charlotte (78-73) to advance. The winner will face Colorado/FSU.
#3 Kansas advances by beating #6 South Carolina (91-78). They will play #10 NC State who defeated #2 Providence (72-69). The Jayhawks would then play the winner of UConn vs Louisville.
#6 Notre Dame and #2 Wisconsin will matchup up as each other beat the other team's conference rivals (ND beat Michigan State, well Wisconsin beat Pitt). The winner will face the winner of #1 UW vs #5 Ole Miss.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
BUFFS BENCH LEADS THEM TO VICTORY!!
TJ Youngblood scored the first 8 points for Colorado, but then quickly picked up 2 fouls that sent him to the bench for the rest of the half. With his star player out, Coach Deuce went big inserting 7'1 FR V. Curtis into the lineup where he responded with 8 of his 10 points before also picking up 2 fouls to keep CU in the game as they go into the half down by just 1 (42-41).
In the 2nd half the ref's continued to call a tight game, and once again called 2 more tacky fouls on Youngblood
With Youngblood out the bench once again stepped up as the 2nd unit combines to score 40 points hitting 6/10 from 3pt guiding Colorado to the schools first ever Elite 8 appearance with a (85-77) victory.
Despite playing a season low 20 minutes. Youngblood still led all scorers with 13 points and had team high in rebounds (7) and assists (5) as he finished a perfect 3/3 from deep.
BIG 12 RIVAL TO PLAY BUFFS IN ELITE 8!!
Well Colorado's road to the Elite 8 has been less challenging with wins by #11 Nebraska and #10 FSU, #9 Texas has done it the hard way, defeating #1 UNLV in the Round of 32 and now took care of business against #5 Gonzaga (82-65) to setup a Big 12 showdown in the Elite 8.
Texas and Colorado only met 1 time during the regular season with Colorado winning that game (74-59) so you know the Longhorns will be looking for revenge.
Coach Deuce"To be honest I like our chances against Texas more then Gonzaga because we matchup up well with them. The Zag's had a ton of size both in their starting lineup and on their bench. Well this past was frustrating with all the tacky foul calls, the refs did us a favor because the 2nd unit guy's really stepped up and now can feel good about coming in and giving us solid minutes the rest of the way out. Well Youngblood has led this team all year the fact is it's going to take a team effort if we are going to keep moving on"
OSU PUNCHES TICKET TO ELITE 8
For a 3rd year in a row, the Oregon State Beavers are headed to the Elite 8 after beating #1 Villanova (92-70). All 5 starters for the Beavers scored in double digits led by 7'1 SR Bigman Wallace Ray's 23 pts. Former 5* AA Mr OR BB A. Gerlach just missed out on a triple double as he finishes with 10 pts 7 reb and 10 assists.
**T. Damon continues to DNP**
TARHEELS TAKE ON DUKE TO MOVE ON!!
#3 UNC took down ACC/Instate Rival #7 Duke (80-77) behind 19 pts from SR PF Tank Platt.
UNC will now take on Oregon State in the Elite 8 of the East Regional for the chance to move on to the Final 4.
#1 WASHINGTON FINALLY GETTING RESPECT!
When U "Dub" was named the #1 seed in the West, there wasn't a single college basketball reporter who felt the committee got it right. However now after a (91-80) win over #5 Ole Miss, the "Dawgs" are moving on to the Elite 8 where they will take on #2 Wisconsin who defeated #6 Notre Dame (84-80).
COULD CU PLAY ANOTHER BIG 12 RIVAL IN Final 4?
#3 Kansas took care of business defeating #10 NC State (96-67) to earn a trip to the Elite 8 where they will face #1 UConn who earlier defeated Big East rival #5 Louisville (99-77).
If Kansas manages the upset, then we could see a Kansas vs Colorado or Texas matchup in the Final 4.Last edited by Deuce2223; 06-05-2015, 08:40 PM.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
ELITE 8 RECAP
BUFF'S HEADED TO FINAL 4
For the 3rd straight year Coach Deuce is headed to the Final 4. Most expected it coming off 2 straight NCAA title as Oregon State had he stayed with the Beavers but nobody really saw it coming in Year 1 with the Buff's.
Taking on a very familiar opponent in Big 12 rival Texas, CU took a (39-35) 1st half lead and behind a double double by TJ Youngblood and a career high by 7'2 Bigman Vic Curtis the Buff's rolled to victory as they outscore the Longhorns by double digits in the 2nd half.
FINAL SCORE CU-89 TEXAS-75
Youngblood took home POG honors with 27 pts (10/24 FG 5/14 3pt) 11 rebs 2 assits and 3 steals
Curtis came off the bench to score a career high 21 points well JR swingman J. Mallory added 12 pts and 7 rebs hitting 3/4 from deep.
KANSAS KNOCKS OFF #1 UConn
The Jayhawks started the year as the #1 team in the country and proved why starting out 16-0, but after struggling in Big 12 play everyone wondered what team would show up for the NCAA tourney.
Well after a (102-86) victory over #1 seed UConn, it appears that Kansas is peaking at the right time.
6'7 SR SF A. Massago led the way with 28 pts (4/7 3pt) well SR PG K. Koger came off the bench to score 21 pts (4/5 3pt) in the victory.
OREGON STATE FAILS TO 3-PEAT
Trailing (45-39) at the half, OSU never recovered as UNC pulls away to win by double digits (89-76) to ruin the Beavers chance at a "3-Peat"
JR PG A. Gerlach followed up his near triple triple with 19 pts in the loss, well SR R. Conroy added a double double with 12 pts and 11 reb.
SR PF Tank Platt led the Tar Heels with 38 pts and 7 reb. (For the season Platt averaged 20.2 PPG), well fellow SR SG T. Fitzwater added 21 pts and 7 reb off the bench.
BADGERS HIT CENTURY MARK!!
Normally when you think Wisconsin Basketball and Big 12 basketball you think slower pace and great "D". Tonight the Badgers showed they can play all styles of ball.
Trailing (54-42) Wisconsin mounted a huge comeback by outscoring the "Dawgs" by 20 in the 2nd half (58-38) to win the game (100-92).
Washington had 7 players score in double digits, but for Wisconsin it was all about SR PG R. Anderer 32 pts (4/9 3pt) and JR PF T. Wade's double double of 16 pts and 10 reb.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
Okay so I am all caught up with current games played. I work the next 3 days, so I am not sure if I will get in the Final 4 game before Tues.
I have to be honest I was hoping OSU would make it to the Championship game even without me. I thought it would've made for a great story, but UNC is tough.
I am really surprised at how well Washington did. Was sorta hoping for a OSU/UW and CU/Kansas Final 4.
Speaking of the game with Kansas it should be crazy. We sweept them in the regular season including Youngblood's 51 point game, but it's really hard to beat a really good team 3 times and they are a 95 Overall vs my 83 Overall.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
Managing to beat a better overall team three times is no small task like you said, hopefully Colorado will be able to ride the success they've had this tournament without having to rely solely on Youngblood. My Dynasties

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
Any chance Youngblood goes one-and-done? I don't think I have ever seen that happen in this game. I don't think I had even seen a sophomore leave before until Armondo Whelchel declared this past offseason in my legacy.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
Well I have simmed a few times just to see, and each time he stays. I can only hope so because I really want him for 1 more year. It is sorta surprising though because it says Top Pick Buzz. I won't spoil whether he wins National POY or not until the end of the season though.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)

FINAL 4 RESULTS
#3VS #3
Just like in the movies, Part III just never lives up to the hype. Feature #1 of CU vs Kansas saw Freshman TJ Youngblood score a career high 51 pts to lead the Buffaloes over the Jayhawks 122-115 in Overtime. Feature #2 saw Colorado once again come out victor's as Youngblood scores 28 on 4/8 from beyond the arc to lead in a 102-88 win.
Now it's Part III. The Final 4, a stage that doesn't get much bigger, and Kansas fails to show up.
CU took a (43-35) lead into the locker room at the half as Youngblood finishes with 10 pts and 6 rebs. Youngblood continued his strong play in the 2nd half as well finishing with 14th double double of the season as he is named POG with 28 pts 12 rebs and 5 assists.
With just 1 opponent remaining between a National Championship Title, will Youngblood stay for a 2nd season, or will he pull a 1 and Done and leave Coach Deuce without his star player as he makes a quest for 4 straight NCAA titles? Or will the duo come up short and return together to take home the hardware next season?
#2VS #3
After scoring 32 points in the Badgers (100-92) win over #1 Washington in the Elite 8, Senior PG Raitis Anderer (former 5* Ranked #13 Overall, Minnesota Mr BB) scores 33 pts hitting 5/14 from 3pt as Wisconsin defeats North Carolina (81-72) to earn the chance to to play for the title.
For the season Anderer is averaging 23.7 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 4.7 APG, and 1.5 SPG well hitting 42% from beyond the arc.Last edited by Deuce2223; 06-09-2015, 12:40 PM.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
BADGERS USE HUGE 2ND HALF TO WIN TITLE!!
If for some reason your power went out after watching just the first half of the National Championship game of Colorado vs Wisconsin, then you would be shocked to hear who won.
Colorado dominated the 1st half taking a 55-38 lead into the locker room behind the play of the 3 Amigo's.
Freshmen TJ Youngblood and Joseph Bauer along with Senior Hardy Rodgers combined to score 51 of the Buffaloes 55 points as they combine to shoot 9/13 from beyond the arc.
Youngblood led all scorers with 20 points on 7/11 FG (2/5 3pt) well also converting 4/6 from the stripe.
Bauer was deadly from beyond the arc as he hit's 5/7 from deep including a buzzer beater just inside the half court line to finish with 17.
Rodgers rounded out the trio with 16 pts including 2/2 from 3pt well also grabbing a team high 5 rebs.
On the opposite side of the ball, Wisconsin's R. Anderer led his team with 11 pts but was just 3/11 from the field including 3/7 from 3pt.
In the 2nd half however it was like the teams entered the twilight zone.
Anderer came out and did what he does best, scoring 19 points including from deep to finish with a team high 30 points.
6'8 JR SF K. Asseo also has a huge half scoring 24 of his 28 points as he shoots 13/17 from the field, and 6'8 SO PF E. Roller adds a double double with 10 pts and 11 reb.
For Colorado, Rodgers (3), Bauer (6) and Youngblood (7) combing to score just 16 2nd half points.
As a team CU finished the 2nd half just 2/16 from beyond the arc including 8 miss's by their star (Youngblood) in the final 5 minutes which led to the double digit loss.
FINAL SCORE WISCONSIN-104 COLORADO-89
Coach Deuce"I have been a part of some bad loss's but this one has to rank up there as #1. Yes are team is young (6 FR, 4 that start), but when you can't take care of a 17 point lead you don't deserve to win. It's not like we turned the ball over (13 total and only 7 in the 2nd half). They adjusted their "D" in the 2nd half and took out our scorers and our guy's panicked and took bad shot's"
With the chance of 3 titles in 3 year's Coach Deuce will have to go back to the drawing board. With the potential of 9 players returning if Youngblood turns down the NBA, the Buffaloes won't sneak up on anyone next season and instead will enter every game with a bullseye above their headComment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
END OF THE YEAR RECAP
YOUNGBLOOD NAMED NATIONAL POY
Despite not leading his team to a National Title, Freshman TJ Youngblood was named the National POY after averaging 23.6 PPG, 8.8 RPG, 3.8 APG, 1.4 SPG this past season well shooting almost 48% from deep.
Youngblood also took home the Defensive POY and National FOY, as well a Big 12 POY and FOY awards. He was also named a to the NCAA 1st Team All-American, 1st Team All-Freshman and was a 1st team Big 12 and Freshman Big 12 member.
FELLOW BUFF'S NAMED TO POST-SEASON AWARDS
Former Mr BB Wyoming Phillip Ridnour started 37/37 games for Colorado at center, despite just being 6'8 and 211 lbs. However despite his size he put up solid #'s (11.9 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.2 SPG, .9 BPG) as he is named to to the NCAA All-Freshman team.
He also joined Youngblood on the Big 12 All-Freshman team where fellow starters PG D. Torres and SG J. Bauer as well as key reserve 7'2 V. Curtis were also named.
Coach Deuce"To have 5 of your Freshman named to the Conference All-Freshman team, shows you just how young were were but also how well all 5 of these young men played and what kind of building blocks we have in place hopefully for the next several years"
YOUNGBLOOD TURNS DOWN NBA AND WILL RETURN FOR YEAR 2
Despite potential Lottery Buzz in the upcoming NBA draft, TJ Youngblood will return for a 2nd season with 1 goal in mind "A NCAA Title" However let's not kid ourselves the question on most people's mind is can YB repeat the type of season he had a take home the POY again?
YOUNGBLOOD WILL HAVE TO SHARE THE SPOTLIGHT
Going into the recruiting season, Coach Youngblood had 1 scholarship to offer and with the star's aligning found himself as a front runner for the #1 Overall recruit in the nation (6'5 SG Ali Lathum)
Coach Deuce"We have been watching Ali since he was a Freshman and knew he was going to be considered a 5* AA, but with his recent domination this past summer (18.3 PP, 10.8 RP, 4.1 AP, 1.6 SPG, 1.1 BPG, 51% 3PT), I had a feeling he would be named the #1 Overall. We are excited to announced he has decided to stay instate and come play for the Buff's. Teaming him up with TJ gives us 2 of the most explosive combo's in the nation""I am super excited to be able to stay close to home and play in front of my family every home game. Coach Deuce has proven that despite not winning the title this past year, he is one of the best in the nation, and with the promise of starting next to YB for at least next season, it was a no brainer to pick Colorado over Texas and Kansas, but to be honest it was nice to feel wanted so that's why I waited."
BUFF'S WILL BATTLE DEPTH ISSUE'S
With Rodger's graduating, the Buff's will be short of size in the starting lineup as it appears that YB will move to PF this next season with Lathum sliding into the SF role.
Also with only 1 scholarship, Coach Deuce will be forced to hope to find another walkon to help current walkon 7'2 Victor Curtis off the bench.Last edited by Deuce2223; 06-10-2015, 02:02 PM.Comment
