      Liberty (9-16, 8-4) @ Charleston Southern (10-14, 4-7)
      CSU Fieldhouse
      February 18, 2008

In what has become a bad habit, Charleston Southern (10-14, 4-7) has dropped another game after leading at the half. This time they were up 27-24 at home against Liberty (9-16, 8-4), however the offense sputtered in the second half and the Flames were able to win this big road game 58-49.

CSU was, once again dominant in the guard position with both Jeremy Sexton and Sheldon Strickland hitting for double figures, however it wasn't enough. Sexton finished with 14 points and 4 assists and Strickland had 11 points. Off the bench Dominique Williams had a very nice game with 10 points on 4-4 shooting in just 12 minutes of action.

The game was won by the big men of Liberty to keep their hopes alive of a Big South regular season championship. Sommy Ogukwe had the most impressive night with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while John Brown had 14 points and 4 rebounds.

With only a handful of games left, Charleston Southern takes a trip to visit UNC Asheville (12-10, 7-4) at the Justice Center. UNC Asheville is currently riding a two game losing streak which has seen them lose their lead atop the Big South, while the Buccaneers have dropped three straight. One of these teams will be able to break this trend!

This was an instant Big South classic. Neither team played as if it were on a two or three game skid. In the end it was UNC Asheville(13-10, 8-4) that held serve at home in an exciting 77-70 overtime victory over Charleston Southern (10-15, 4-8).

The Buccaneers have a solid back court brewing as they move towards the end of the season. Both Jeremy Sexton and Sheldon Strickland have been the consistent threat the fans thought they had since game one, however the consistency hasn't come until late in the season. Sexton finished the game with 23 points, 5 assists and 2 steals as he was just short of a career high for points and matched his career high for 7 three point field goals. Strickland wasn't far behind as he dropped 21 points and added 4 assists with 5 three point field goals of his own. Kenny Mitchell also had a nice game with 10 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

It wasn't quite his 33 point performance of last time out against CSU, but Matt Dickey went for 30, adding 3 rebounds and 3 assists. One Bulldog that did have a career day was Jaleel Roberts who set career highs for both points and rebounds going for 16 points and 23 rebounds in a monster performance that couldn't be contained. The Bulldogs proved why they should still be the team to beat come tournament time as they overpowered a smaller Buccaneer team en route to 40 trips to the line, as opposed to CSU's 11.

With the loss, Charleston Southern are now bound to the bottom of the league standings with High Point and Winthrop at 4-8 with two league games left to play.

Not sure I would worry to much about trying to get to the NCAA tournament as much as just trying to get back to .500 in conference play and end your season hopefully with a winning record. That's always been my goals for season 1. Hopefully we will see some solid recruits land as CSU this off-season.

I agree completely. I'm happy with the way this is going. I didn't want to find instant success...although the struggle sometimes is painful!

With regards to the recruits....let's just say I'll get lucky to land anything! LOL!

This is a cpu vs. cpu sim legacy. I do everything behind the scenes from recruiting to setting the minutes played, but watch the cpu-cpu games. I don't sim the games because I like to see the game played out in front of me.

As far as doing your updates, it is completely up to you with how it is shown here on the forum. I've seen extremely successful threads that show every stat known to man (it's tedious work for those that want to fly through a season since most of us would rather play than write), but I've also seen the weekly, monthly and even season recaps done well. Just check out Deuce's in terms of season recaps that he did for his first couple seasons.

                      Good luck milldaddy!

                        February 26, 2008

It was a tough Big South game on the road for Charleston Southern (10-16, 4-9) who battled and hung around, but couldn't finish it off. Winthrop (8-17, 5-8) were able to hold off the pesky Buccaneers with a 57-55 victory at Winthrop Coliseum tonight.

Although the guards weren't as dynamic as they had been, both Jeremy Sexton and Sheldon Strickland were able to score double digits again. Sexton finished with 11 points on a disappointing 5-12 shooting. For Strickland it was a solid 12 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists on 5-9 shooting, 2-2 from three.

The Eagles were led by Andre Jones and his 13 points and 2 assists and James Bourne and his 12 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists in their narrow victory over Charleston Southern. Both teams exhibited excellent defense and were able to limit each others offensive opportunities and easy looks at the basket tonight.

With one game remaining, this was a big opportunity lost for CSU to climb the Big South standings. Their last game will be Senior Night for the lone senior Jonathan Brooks, the 6'7" senior small forward from Columbus, Georgia. Coming to CSU Fieldhouse for the occasion will be Coastal Carolina who have a shot at the #4 seed in the Big South Tournament, while Charleston Southern will look to get out of the cellar and get the #7 seed with a win.

                          SENIOR NIGHT

Charleston Southern (11-16, 5-9) may have only had one senior (who played just 1 minute of tonight's game), however they put on a show for him. Jonathan Brooks has been the ultimate team player this season as the unconventional team leader. He led from the bench as the lone senior and not the most dynamic of players. CSU took it to Coastal Carolina (9-15, 6-8) in an important season-ending game for both teams in a 78-59 win.

The offense was rocking tonight as the Buccaneers shot over 50% from the field, a rarity. Four of the five starters went for double figures as the scoring was well spread out. Sheldon Strickland had a team-high 18 points and added 3 rebounds and 6 assists. The most impressive line came from center Cedrick Bowen with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Also joining the party were Jeremy Sexton with 15 points and Kenny Mitchell with an impressive 14 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Senior Jonathan Brooks logged just one minute and didn't record any stats in his final game at CSU Fieldhouse.

There wasn't much going right for Coastal Carolina, specifically in the second half when they couldn't stop anything the Buccaneers threw their way, but guard Anthony Raffa had a game-high 21 points, adding 4 assists and 3 steals in the loss. The only other Chanticleer in double figures was Tyler Poole who finished with 11 points and 5 rebounds.

With the regular season all wrapped up, Charleston Southern have found themselves as the #7 seed in the Big South Tournament and will travel to Virginia to play VMI in the quarterfinal round.

My Radford legacy was a CPU vs. CPU sim, and I finished last in the Big South my first year, so I know what you're going through. Very frustrating. Nice win against Coastal Carolina though, that team has some talent and Cliff Ellis is a highly rated coach. I know it sounds like recruiting isn't going so great, but maybe you can make some things happen. How did you distribute your initial coaching points? With Kennesaw I went all in on charisma for recruiting purposes.
