As far as that last game....NO HELP FROM THE BENCH!!!! I was very annoyed seeing that whomever subbed in was more or less useless. Overall though, I was content...that was a #4 seed in last season's NCAA tournament that was eventually knocked out in the second round by Kansas.
Sounds like it's time for a seven-man rotation!

Great suggestion. I went with an 8 man rotation which is a little better than what I had been running. Let's see how that works...

        UNC-Wilmington (1-2) @ Charleston Southern (3-2)
        CSU Fieldhouse
        November 19, 2008

The crowd at the CSU Fieldhouse was rocking all night long as Charleston Southern were able to get back on track with a solid performance over UNC-Wilmington in a 66-63 victory.

For Charleston Southern Kenny Mitchell continues to be a solid player at the small forward position. His 20 points and 6 rebounds were both above his average of 13.8 and 5.8 on the season for the senior who led all Buccaneers in scoring. Joining him with a solid performance was sophomore power forward Paul Gombwer who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Besides the two returning players, freshman center Darian Vargas has been earning himself more and more minutes, and tonight just solidified Coach Pfeifer's judgement. Vargas finished with career-highs for points, although it was just 4, tied a career-high with 8 rebounds, and destroyed his career high with 4 blocks (was just 1) in 16 minutes of play, his most of the young season so far.

UNC-Wilmington received big nights from Keith Rendleman, who may just end up as the CAA player of the year, and Luke Hager. Rendleman finished with a game-high 21 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, while Hager finished with 16 points. Keep an eye out for Rendleman as the season carries on as he is averaging 20 ppg and 15 rpg.

Up next for the Buccaneers is a trip to the midwest to visit the Fighting Illini of Illinois (1-1). Coach Bruce Weber has a very good group of players and will be a comparable test to the one against Iowa last week.

              Assembly Hall
              November 23, 2008

It was a tough trip into Assembly Hall for Charleston Southern. The size of Illinois was too much to handle which resulted in many Buccaneers being in foul trouble throughout their 75-60 loss to Illinois.

Paul Gombwer was arguably the best Buccaneer out there this afternoon, finishing with 12 points on 6-6 shooting and grabbing 9 rebounds. Sheldon Strickland led the team in scoring with 15 points this afternoon after several games being held under 10 points.

The Fighting Illini were too big, strong and powerful in every matchup on the floor. One position that stood out the most was at the center position as the 7'1" Meyers Leonard was sent to the line 12 times, making 11 of them, en route to his team-high 17 points while grabbing 6 rebounds. All 5 Illinois starters finished in double figures, which by itself would have almost been enough to win the game (59 total points).

Up next after almost a week without a game is a game against Colgate (2-3) at CSU Fieldhouse.

Not a bad start to the season so far. 3-3 and getting past the first round in the O'Reilly Tournament is always good. Hopefully, you can pull together a winning season this year, or at least a better run at the conference

                    November 29, 2008

It was a disappointing game on many accounts for Charleston Southern this afternoon at home. Colgate came in with a gameplan and executed it much better than CSU was able to. The jump shots kept falling for Colgate who won this game 62-51.

It was a poor shooting night for most of the team, but certainly the guards who went a combined 5-19, which will never win you a game. Kenny Mitchell had another nice night as he scored 14 points and added 5 rebounds and 2 assists.

Sophomore shooting guard Pat Moore came off the bench and had his best game as a collegiate athlete for Colgate, finishing with 13 points on 4-6 shooting, 4-5 from three in just 19 minutes. Mitch Rolls led the way with a game-high 17 points, connecting on five out of nine attempts from three.

In a peculiar note, there was an amazing matchup at the power forward position between the 6'7" Paul Gombwer of Charleston Southern and the 6'7" Paul Gombwer of Colgate. In the end they were as even as they seemed. The former scored 5 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while the later scored 6 points with 11 rebounds.

Up next is a trip to see South Carolina State (1-6) of the Mid-Eastern Conference and a chance to get back to .500 on the young season.

We're trying! I was happy winning a game in the O'Reilly CBE Classic, but was straight up out-classed in the game with Iowa!

You're shooters decided to stay in their dorms apparently. 18-53 is atrocious and 4-18 from beyond the arc didn't help either

It's been the inconsistency that has really hurt us. You are right, when they are hitting I feel like we could be a contender in the Big South, then they get cold and I'm brought back down to earth!

Thanks benrich! I think the goal for the season is getting to .500 for the year and a game or two above .500 in the Big South to get a winnable first round game.

HAHA! Let's just say with having 6 days before the next game, their next couple practices were brutal
