      Recruiting Update: March 1st

Today was the last day that schools could receive Letters of Intent from their commitments until recruiting starts back again on April 12th. And, the Radford basketball program got a BIG surprise today.

One of Radford's top targets, SG Kenny Andrews, committed AND signed his letter of intent to Radford today.

Kenny Andrews is a 3* SG from Queens, NY. Andrews is the #42 SG and the #173 Overall player in the 2009 class. Andrews is now the highest rated player to ever sign with Radford. Andrews' strengths are definitely his 3 point shooting, speed, and on ball defense. Andrews will probably start over rising Junior SG Ryan Ariza next year.

With the commitment of Kenny Andrews, the Highlanders now have 3 scholarships left to fill in the Spring Signing Period, which begins April 12th.

Thanks! I want to stay at Radford at least another year because I'd like to play with the guys I've recruited. But, if there is a job that I really like that opens up after the 2009-2010 season, I may take it... I'm still not sure yet.

March 7, 2009: Liberty vs. Radford

Radford wins the Big South Conference Champoinship in a nail biter, 63-60!!

Radford trailed 60-58 with 55 seconds left in the game and it was the Highlanders' ball. With 38 seconds left, Sammy Coleman passed the ball to a WIDE open Landon Snow who drained the 3 pointer to put the Highlanders up by 1.

Liberty then milked the clock to try and put Radford at a big disadvantage by only having a couple seconds to make a shot. Liberty drew up the perfect play for Junior PF Pervis Slater as he had a nice look at the basket, but he missed and the Highlanders' Landon Snow grabbed the rebound!

Snow was then fouled and made both free throws... So, the score was now 63-60 with 3.4 seconds left in the game. Liberty threw the ball in and raced up the court. Liberty PG Mitchell Winkfield threw up a LONG 3 point attempt which hit the front of the rim as time expired and the shot was no good!

Radford was led in this game by Freshman SF Landon Snow who finished with a game high 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting including the clutch 3 pointer and 2 made free throws with 3 seconds left. Senior SG Aaron Dupre scored 11 points off the bench in just 15 minutes of playing time. Junior PG Fredrick Garnett scored 10 points and had 4 steals in the game.

Liberty was led by Senior PG Mitchell Winkfield who had a team high 16 points on 4 of 9 shooting, including 3 of 4 from behind the 3 point arc. Junior PF Pervis Slater had a solid performance as he finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Those two were the only two Liberty players with over 5 points scored in the game.
