So far in my dynasty, no.

    2020: #1 MIL over #2 DAL
    2021: #4 GSW over #1 MIL
    2022: #1 BRK over #2 MEM

I also don't think it's happened in real life. Closest was the strike shortened 1999 season that saw the Knicks lose to the Spurs.

      2023 NBA Finals Recap

Once again the Milwaukee Bucks have defeated the Dallas Mavericks to win the NBA Finals. In a repeat of 2020, the Bucks won relatively easily, though it took 6 games this time, not 5. Kristaps Porzingis missed the first three games of the series and was down 2-1 by the time he came back. In those first two games, we saw three completely different games.
      1. In game 1, the game was close going into the 4th before Milwaukee outscored Dallas by 22 in the quarter and forced both Dwight Powell and Maxi Kleber to foul out. Khris Middleton had 34 points on 10-13 shooting.
      2. Game 2 was tight throughout and was tied at 99 with 7 minutes left. Only 4 points were scored in the next 3 minutes, but Milwaukee managed to win by 3.
      3. Dallas came home in game 3 and led the whole way for an easy 9 point victory.

Once Porzingis came back, the Bucks went 2-1 again, winning game 4 easily, scrambling back from a big deficit before losing in game 5, then winning in game 6 as Giannis had 39 points, 8 points, and 8 rebounds.

Giannis was the clear MVP, with stats that closely mirrored his regular season numbers.

He and the Bucks have been crazy. I'm a Bucks fan, but haven't really done anything to "help" them in this dynasty. When they made the move for Capela, I wrote this all the way back on page 9:

The Bucks haven’t been happy with the drop off in quality from their frontcourt this season, and unloaded Marvin Williams and Kyle Korver to the Hawks for Clint Capela and a 2nd round pick. Does this mean no more playing time for Robin Lopez? At least the brothers weren’t split up. Though Capela is not a shooter, so this will result in a clogged lane for Giannis?
I didn't think the move was a great one, and Capela wasn't exactly lighting it up for Atlanta, so it seemed somewhat insignificant. Instead Capela is a 2-time All-Star for the Bucks and he and Giannis have made a monstrous frontcourt that has led the Bucks to 2 titles and 3 finals appearances.

Of course, Giannis is the beast upon which all this is built, but Bledsoe + Middleton have been steady and the rotating 2-guards and bench have been good. Matt Forney has been an awesome draft pick and will likely earn the starting spot over Bledsoe next season (who is now 33).

Re: The Bulgarian Brothers – A College Hoops 2K8 & NBA 2K20 Dynasty

Messing around today and discovered something disappointing: my eventual plan to expand to Montreal is not possible (would have been 4-8 seasons off). This is one more reason to ensure my next 2K experience is on PC. I should have known better after my 2K16 fiasco.

Montreal is not one of the pre-fabbed teams that 2K offers (there are 8-10 of those) and in my existing save, I get the message that I've "hit the limit of user edited teams". Given the servers were offline and I can make 3+ user edited teams in a brand new MyLeague, I thought it wouldn't be a problem.

However, no matter what I do, I can't add any teams other than pre-fabbed ones. Some of them are reasonable, but thematically I wanted to go to Montreal as well, so this is disappointing.

The tools aren't very flexible (Super Mega Baseball has the best editor I've seen), but I was going to do something with this Montreal Dragons color scheme but use the swirly basketball logo and call them the Montreal Tempest (meaning storm) and sometimes use the French Tempête spelling.

Oh well. This dream is gone, so here's a spoiler of what I was thinking about (this is from the PowerPoint where I workshop ideas and art).

                        Coaches’ Corner: Episode 1 (June 16, 2023)

Welcome to the very first episode of Coaches’ Corner with Pittsburgh’s adopted Bulgarian son Ognyan Dragomirov. Ognyan is the current coach of Stetson University in DeLand, Florida, former coach of Northern Colorado, and a former member of the Robert Morris Colonials basketball team. He’s also one half of the dynamic Bulgarian Brother duo, with the other half being Saint Francis University’s Kostadin Dragomirov.

It is KDKA Channel 2’s distinct privilege to allow coach Oggy to host this show, live from central Florida.

                        -----

                        Oggy:
Welcome and ‘zdraveyte’ – that’s hello in Bulgarian – to the tens of you viewing this program. I am grateful for your interest in our family and this conversation. And a special ‘obicham te’ to my niece Sofia; I know you’re watching.

                        - Oggy pauses momentarily and goofily smiles at the camera -

On each of these programs I hope to provide something entertaining and informative for you, the audience. These could be stories from coaching or insights into what we’ve learned. We kick this program off with a very special guest: coach Keon Reid of the University of California Davis. He’s in his third season coaching the Aggies and has the talent to compete for a conference title and NCAA berth. Keon, it’s a pleasure to have you here.

                        Coach Reid:
It's great to get the chance to talk coach, I've kept an eye on your career since you and your brother first got hired. It's impressive what you've been able to accomplish.

                        Oggy:
Thanks Keon – it’s been even more rewarding than I’ve expected, but I must admit I still strive for more.

I’ve been impressed by the program you are building in Davis and it really feels like this season will be the one where your hard work results in hardware. How are you feeling about this season and what are you expecting?

                        Coach Reid:
My first two years coaching, we had a lot of ups and downs. When I first got hired it was my first time coaching at a high level and it was our school’s first year playing serious D1 ball. Last year we made some strides and brought some great players in. We’ve got a young squad now, but they're talented and want to win badly. So far we're off to a great start and anything short of a battling for a conference title will be disappointing to me.

Now you've been able to get to the big dance, which is something I haven't been able to do yet. The NCAA doesn't give our schools much respect when it comes to seeding. What is your mentality when approaching these bigger programs in March?

                        Oggy:
Oh man…honestly, I’m still figuring it out. In my first season at Greeley, I was just happy to be there and didn’t prepare the team or myself like I should have. So when I made it last season and faced off against a great USC team, I probably overcorrected and came in with a hyper-specific game plan.

You may remember, but that approach was…controversial. Some of the screaming heads on ESPN claimed we “set basketball back decades.” In the end, we only lost by 5 points to a stacked team, but I’m not sure it was the way my players want to play and it wasn’t the way I had prepared them all season.

So, I’m still learning and growing, but I think I want to take the way we’ve been approaching games all season, then maybe get hyper-focused on whatever small advantages we may have. Can I use our height? Can I get corner threes? I believe we have the talent to win some games – I want a rematch against Rhode Island – but we need to focus and play well.

I’m thinking out loud here, but I think the biggest area I haven’t thought about yet is the mental side of things. How do I keep the players loose yet focused? It’s a big deal to make the dance, but I don’t want them to stress about it. I gotta figure that out.

That was a fantastic question but it’s all we have time for today.

Thank you to Keon for joining us, this was awesome – and be grateful that I didn’t take that San Jose State job, otherwise I’d be stealing your recruits.
