Ahh tough couple losses to the rivals. Just needed a few more threes to fall. Would have helped the momentum shift too.

That's 2 tough losses. Are the Aggies still atop the conference, or have they relinquished that??The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.

Tough loss but nice game by Parks. The team could have used a little more rebounding from him, though.#AllRed | Club Atlético Independiente

Apolgoies for lack of posts, been away from my PS3 since the last game I posted
Was a tough shooting night from deep but they were ridiculously hot from deep most of the game. Got to close out better on defense,
We are still the top team in the conference but it's extremely close now.
Tough night for Parks on the glass but he was still physical inside. We actually did win the rebound battle in this game, mainly due to our eight offensive rebounds vs their three.Comment

Apologies Forgot to take a picture of the team stats after the gameAggies get Back on Track Against Highlanders
February 11th, 2010
RIVERSIDE -- UC Davis has had some tough losses in recent weeks after previously being undefeated in conference play. Today they went up against a UC Riverside team that's been struggling the past two seasons.
The game opened with a three from Jalonni Diggs but afterward, UC Davis went on a 12-0 run. The Aggies were able to get the ball inside finding Jimmie Harris off cuts and Dedrick Watson in the post. However, after a few substitutions the Aggies got into a drought. All of a sudden they were missing shots left and right. Not scoring for several minutes.
UC Riverside used this to get back into the game, playing through their upper-classman backcourt. Cleavon Barlow and the aforementioned Jalonni Diggs. Eventually, the Highlanders got up 17-15. Usually coolheaded, UC Davis head coach Keon Reid and was clearly frustrated chewing his guys out on the sideline.
UC Davis Stats:

UC Riverside Stats:

Reid put a few of his starters back in, in particular Watson and freshman Niemer Jefferson. The Highlanders were challenging Jefferson to shoot and Jefferson took up the challenge. Hitting four threes in the final six minutes of the half. Back-up guard Raymond Sims found Jefferson on most of them as Sims led the Aggie's offense back up double digits.
Along with Jefferson's shooting Sims was using his speed to drive inside and dump it off to Dedrick Watson. Getting the Aggies up thirteen at the half.
Out of the half, UC Davis played aggressively looking to put the Highlanders out of the game early. Todd Lowenthal and Joe Harden both picked up two steals early in the second half as they ramped up the pressure.
With the added pressure the Highlanders began to fold missing shots and turning the ball over. Soon UC Davis was able to get up twenty points and at point close to thirty.

Final week of the Regular Season
Has the regular season winds down one thing that has remained the same nearly the entire year is the Duke Blue Devils in the number one ranking. Since taking their only two losses early in conference play in January they've recovered and look hot as ever. Last week they beat a 21rst ranked Boston College team handily.
Number three ranked USC took just their fourth loss of the season last week as they lost to Oregon State late in the game. They did recover beating 20th ranked Arizona State and Jame Harden by double digits two days later.
The Conference-USA has two teams which have been moving up the polls in recent weeks. The Memphis Tigers and Southern Miss Golden Eagles sit at 12 and 13. Southern Miss isn't a team you're used to hearing about in the top-25 but they are led by seniors Jeremy Wise and Sai'Quon Stone. Who put up a formidable duo against any team in the country. Memphis of course coached by John Calipari has one of the most talented backcourts in the NCAA with Willie Kemp and Doneal Mack.
Boomer Sooner! The Oklahoma Sooners moved up five spots this week after a win over Baylor and Kansas State. The Sooners are led by Junior Power forward Blake Griffin who is averaging 26ppg. Sticking with the Big-12 further down the polls, Nebraska has re-entered the polls. The Corn Huskers had a big win over Griffin and the Sooners just two weeks ago.
There were some major shake-ups in the Mid-Major polls, VCU moved all the way up to second whilst Boston fell a few spots after a close win to Albany. Portland rose all the way to 3rd as they've gone 10-0 in their last ten games including wins over Saint Mary's and Gonzaga. For the first time in the past two years, UW-Greenbay fell out of the top 10. This comes after they've gone 1-6 in their past seven games.

Aggies Edge Out Tigers, Clinch Regular Season Conference Title
March 7th, 2010
STOCKTON -- Wednesday night the Aggies were playing to clinch their first-ever Big West regular season conference title. If they lost, Cal Poly would have the potential to win the conference with a win later that night. Pacific was also playing for something, a third-place spot in the conference.
Pacific's high-power offense led by the duo of Terrell Smith and C.J Morgan got off to a hot start. Smith was hitting some early threes and finding some open teammates while Morgan drove past Niemer Jefferson several times. Leading to an irate Coach Keon Reid calling a timeout and putting Jimmy Harris on Morgan.
UC Davis was having some trouble early on offense, struggling to get off a good shot. Dedrick Watson had two early turnovers in the post, trying to do too much and getting trapped. However, soon they started to get into more of a groove. Off the bench Joe Harden and Raymond Sims got some offense going. Sims used his speed to get by a few defenders and to the hoop. While Harden hit several mid-range shots.
The two high-powered offenses went back and forth with both sides not able to do much defensively. The Tigers senior forward Joe Ford dunked over two UC Davis defenders with thirty seconds left in the half in a play that absolutely erupted the crowd.
In the second half things tightened up however, both coaches' defenses stepped up in a big way. Making the other side use the shot clock up and get into tough shots. Back-up center for UC Davis Leroy Youmans had two of his three blocks in the first few minutes of the second half. As the Aggies employed their twin towers line up.
Switching Jimmy Harris on C.J Morgan really made a difference for UC Davis. Morgan was hot early but struggled to get open after Harris began guarding him. On offense, the Aggies played a heavy two-man game with Todd Lowenthal and Dedrick Watson. The two playing off of each other the entire second half.
With a minute left in the game, Pacific was up one. The Aggies took the ball up the court letting some time off the clock, they went to Todd Lowenthal who drove his way to the basket getting a layup. However, Pacific quickly got the ball down the court and forward Kerwin Lindsey got a bucket for the Tigers. With 20 seconds left, the Aggies were down one with the regular season title on the line. They threw it in the post to Dedrick Watson who turned around and hit a jump hook. Putting UC Davis up one and on the next possession, Terrell Smith missed what would've been a game-winning shot for Pacific.

UC Davis wins Big West Regular Season Conference Championship
By Dennis Kirkpatrick - Senior Writer
Last night, when the buzzer sounded UC Davis clinched the Big West regular season conference title. This was the Aggie's first-ever division one conference title.
UC Davis had a season for the ages, they entered the year with a young and inexperienced roster that had lost the Big West player of the year. They started off the year with a tough loss to Fresno State but quickly rebounded, beating a Big 12 school in Colorado just a few weeks later.
In conference play they started off with an eight-game winning streak before running into a bit of trouble with Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara. But they recovered and finished strong.
The Aggies didn't have a true go-to player and everyone in their starting lineup averaged 10ppg. They had a balanced scoring attack and when they did need someone to step up just relied on whoever had the hot hand. They finished as the 6th ranked Mid-Major team in the entire country.
Head coach Keon Reid told the press Thursday morning, "We're all excited to win the regular season title, but it's just that, the regular season title. Our goal is to win the conference tournament title and make it to our first NCAA tournament."

Conference Tournament Overview
By Dennis Kirkpatrick - Senior Writer

It's March and the madness is just about to begin. Eight teams in the Big West will be competing for the conference tournament title, with the winner getting their ticket to the big dance. This year's conference tournament features some interesting match-ups and is sure to bring excitement.
(1.) UC Davis vs (8.) CS Northridge
UC Davis is our regular season conference champion and is looking to make their first-ever NCAA tournament. Standing in their way on day one of the conference tournament is CS Northridge who just last year eliminated them in the semi-finals of the Big West tournament. CS Northridge is a strong defensive team grading out as one of the best in the conference but their offense has been the opposite. If they want to win they'll have to slow down the Aggies. Sophomore shooting guard Andrea Garlepp had success against UC Davis this year scoring 18 in both games.
(4.) Pacific vs (5.) UC Irvine
Pacific features one of the more talented rosters in the conference, but has struggled for chemistry at times. UC Irvine has one of the youngest rosters in the conference and very few expected them to finish .500. This will be a match-up of inside vs outside play as Pacific is one of the best shooting teams in the conference whilst UC Irvine has few shooters.
(3.) UC Santa Barbara vs (6.) CS Fullerton
To no surprise, UC Santa Barbara had a solid year, their talented backcourt led them to a winning season. They play a balanced game and are talented on both sides of the ball but it is their defense that has stood out. The Gauchos are ranked 22nd in the nation in defense. CS Fullerton had a drop-off this season compared to last year but it's expected when they lost so many seniors. However, their underclassmen-led starting lineup is talented. Sophomore Power Forward J.S Reid is a force inside and when he can't get a bucket in the paint, Preston Keeler can knock down a deep ball. CS Fullerton's up-tempo offense will attempt to break down the Gaucho's defense.
(2.) Cal Poly vs (7.) Long Beach State
Cal Poly nearly snuck up on UC Davis to steal the regular season conference crown. The Mustangs feature a high-powered offense led by Senior point guard Rick Higgins. But they also have bench depth, their leading scorer isn't even in the starting lineup. On the other side is Long Beach State who after several successful seasons in a row had a tough year. One thing remains consistent, Coach Monson's tough, methodical, and physical style of play. The 49ers try to grind teams down and in a multi-day conference tournament if they can get an upset on day one, they'll be tough to beat as teams get more fatigued.

Congrats on that regular-season conference title! Good that a postseason berth is locked up regardless of what happens in the conference tournament, but the job isn't finished yet.Comment
