Re: A West Coast Story - College Hoops 2k8 Legacy

Hey, I want to start this off by apologizing I know my dynasties have been all over the place. However, yesterday, I went to a pawn shop and found a working PS3 in good condition for a good price. I have been missing playing college hoops 2k8 since my old PS3 went down. I’m deciding to bring this dynasty.

Unfortunately there’s no way for me to get my original save file back so what I’ve decided to do is sim through the 2007-08 season and start fresh in the 08-09 season. Before my old PS3 died, I had gotten a little excited and decided to check the overalls of the two recruits I had signed. So I was able to able to recreate them and add them to the team as well.

It’s going to be a little wonky at first just jumping into a new season after only being 10 games into the original season on my old PS3 but it felt better in my mind to just start fresh.

Awesome, excited that you found a workaround. Congrats on getting it set up, and that seems like a reasonable workaround

Disaster First Season Over for Keon Reid
        March 12th, 2008

DAVIS -- It's not often that you hear calls for a coach to get fired in their first season. But many UC Davis fans want to see coach Keon Reid out of there. There's good reason for them to be frustrated the team went 4-24 this season, finishing dead last in the conference. So today as the Big West conference kicks off conference tournament the Aggies are sitting at home watching.

To point out the main issues with UC Davis wouldn't be easy there are glaring issues all over. The only positive was Vince Oliver, Oliver averaged 18ppg for a UC Davis team that found itself blown out most nights.

The Aggies were a young team, in their first season in the Big West. The team had no Seniors and most of the experienced players had never played serious division one basketball. What they did excel in was height but they weren't able to use that to their advantage. Many expected Junior big Jesse Lopez-Low to step up as a second scorer for the team. Lopez-Low was inconsistent throughout the season, however, struggling against any decent interior defender.

Many are blaming Coach Reid's lack of experience as Reid is known more for his abilities as a trainer than a coach. Reid has only two years of serious coaching experience and was prior a high-profile basketball trainer spending several years on the Sacramento Kings staff.

In reality, this UC Davis team lacks real talent outside of Vince Oliver. However, four wins is unacceptable for any coach. Reid is an incredibly charismatic coach and was able to bring two very highly touted recruits in. Dedrick Watson and Jimmie Harris are ABL teammates who both committed to UC Davis earlier this season. Harris is a top 105 recruit in the country. He'll also have two transfers in Joe Harden and Todd Lowenthaal who weren't able to see the floor this season.

Thanks once the games start going again it should feel like normal. It still sucks that I lose my first season as a Coach but we were the one worst teams in the entire game overall wise so I at least avoided a lot of losses.

              2007-08 National Championship

The Tar Heels Cut Down the Nets

As the buzzer sounded in San Antonio it was the team in Carolina blue that found itself hoisting the Waterford Crystal trophy. For UNC this is their second title in just three years, with Roy Williams winning his second in just five years at the helm at UNC.

Texas A&M had a magical run led by freshman center DeAndre Jordan making it to the national title game in only their second tournament appearance since the 1980s. The team came to within three points of being national champions.

UNC Power Forward Tyler Hansbrough was the player of the game scoring 30pts along with the go-ahead bucket. Tyler Hansbrough, is one of the most decorated players in North Carolina history and the national player of the year. He'll have a major decision to make on if he stays one more year at UNC or goes pro.

                Four New Players to Watch

By Martin Buchanon - Student Writer

Pictured from Left to Right: Freshman Wing Jimmie Harris, Freshman Center Dedrick Watson,
Sophomore Guard Todd Lowenthal and Sophomore Forward Joe Harden
This year, the Aggies are expected to feature four prominent new additions to the team. Two of them transfers from the previous coaching staff who were unable to play last year due to NCAA eligibility rules and two three-star recruits signed by Coach Reid.

Jimmie Harris was one of the highest-rated recruits in the country last year, being just one spot outside of the top 100. Harris played his ABL ball for the Gamblers where he was known as a superb athlete and relentless defender. Harris has a toughness that few players possess. On offense, he is a work in progress, and inconsistent three-point shooter, Harris finds most of his success working inside attacking the basket.

Dedrick Watson is an interesting Center who played his ABL ball with Jimmie Harris. The two former teammates should bring great chemistry already to UC Davis. As soon as Coach Reid took the job at UC Davis Dedrick Watson was hooked, it didn't take much to get him to agree to come to the school. Watson is a hybrid of a stretch big and a traditional one. He is a solid post scorer and can hit from mid-range. He is a poor three-point shooter, but did hit a few in high school. At 215lbs he's a bit smaller than Coach Reid would like but his ability to stretch the floor out certainly fits into Reid's offense.

Todd Lowenthal is a pass-first point guard who excels at finding the open man in the pick and roll. A selfless player Lowenthal likely won't find himself as the Aggie's top scorer much this season. However, the Hawaii transfer does possess a good three-point shot when he wants to pull up from deep. At 6'4 he has great size for a point guard and can match up with teams guards. Lowenthal didn't see the floor much at Hawaii but is expected to be a starter for the Aggies.

Joe Harden is a transfer from Notre Dame, at Notre Dame Harden only averaged 3ppg in his first season. He's a solid all-around player with a good three-point shot. At 6'8 he can play the three or the four for the Aggies. It's likely he'll be competing with Jesse Lopez-Low, Hanson, and Dominic Calegari for the starting power forward spot. Even if Harden doesn't start he'll be one of the main contributed for the Aggies.

UC Davis Highlighted by New Additions

For UC Davis, second-year head coach Keon Reid is already on the hot seat after going 4-24 in his first season coaching the Aggies. However, he'll be bringing in almost an entirely new starting lineup featuring young talent and newly eligible transfers from some of the nation's top programs.

With this influx of talent, the expectations have changed and many pundits believe the Aggies could be one of the top teams in the Big West. Jesse Lopez-Low was in a battle for the starting power forward spot with transfer Joe Harden however in the end the veteran won the job.

Lopez-Low will force coach Reid to change up his offense. Last year the Aggies primarily ran a four-out offense stretching the floor with the use of their bigs like Shane Hanson and Dominic Calegari.

Last year Vince Oliver was one of the top scorers in the entire conference. Going into his senior year he is going to be leading the Aggies once again.

Once again the Aggies will be one of the tallest teams in the league, with height at every position the Aggies will hope to use this to their advantage on the glass. Last year the team had little experience but this year the team will feature six Seniors. All who have a year of division one conference play under their belts.

Two 70+ overall players on the wing is solid for a school of this stature. You've got a decent amount of height as well.

I agree, I got incredibly lucky having a recruit like Harris fall into my lap. He's still a WIP on offense despite his overall. He's got the speed to get by defenders but doesn't have much touch around the rim or a solid jump shot. So he probably won't have any huge scoring nights early in the season.

But hopefully, he's someone Coach Reid can build around after Oliver leaves this year.

Cal Too Much for UC Davis
                          November 13th, 2008

BERKLEY -- On Wednesday the California Golden bears and UC Davis Aggies tipped off their seasons. The Golden bears led by Power Forward Ryan Anderson are expected to have a great season and compete for the conference title in the Pac-10. The Aggies were waiting to see how their team's new additions would affect things.

Out the gate it was clear the Golden Bears had the advantage, freshman shooting guard Chase Minoff hit his first two shots both being threes. After Dedrick Watson turned it over in the post, UC Davis found themselves down 8-0 early. They turned to Vince Oliver to solve the offensive woes early, Oliver scored eight points in the game's first five minutes.

However, in a familiar scene to last year, the Aggies couldn't find any offense outside of Oliver. They looked in towards freshman Dedrick Watson early but he couldn't find his touch around the basket. On the other end, Cals frontcourt proved dominant. The duo of Ryan Anderson and Jordan Wilks dominated the glass. The Aggies continued to try to find answers on the offensive end but none could be found. Todd Lowenthal missed several open threes.

After the half, the Aggies found some fight in them. The duo of Joe Harden and Nate Clark off the bench found some offense. With a could stops led by blocks from Dedrick Watson they were able to cut it down to single digits. However, turnovers forced by the Golden bears soon ended whatever chance UC Davis had.

Cal took advantage of several untimely turnovers to bring their lead back to fifteen. Minoff had could off but Ryan Anderson took over, scoring in transition then hitting a three on the next possession. The Golden bears had an astounding zero turnovers in the game while also shooting nearly 50%. That's a recipe for success in any game.

Nebraska Sneaks Away with Win Over Aggies
                            November 15th, 2008

LINCOLN -- Going into this game, Coach Reid was hoping to get his first ever win against a power school. Whilst the Nebraska Huskers may be in a prestigious conference their team is not much better than UC Davis on paper. This would also be the second straight team UC Davis faced that was led by a Ryan Anderson. Nebraska's Ryan Anderson is a great shooter who can hit from just about anywhere on the floor.

Early in this game, Nebraska got off to a hot start getting up 10-2, Sophmore point guard Cookie Miller really stepped up and was getting early buckets on the Aggies. However, freshman center Dedrick Watson stepped up for UC Davis. Watson hit two fadeaways over Alaivaa Krager then passed it out to Vince Oliver for a wide-open three-putting UC Davis right back into the game.

It would go back and forth all half both teams, shooting the ball extremely well. Nebraska frontcourt really struggled to score the ball Ryan Anderson and Alonzo Edwards combined to shoot just 7 of 21. However, Sek Henry the Junior guard off the bench really stepped up for the Cornhuskers, he would finish with 11pts off the bench. Nebraska had multiple bench players really step up in this game, Alex Chapman had 8pts and Toney McCray had 11pts. UC Davis got some scoring off the bench as well, sophomore Joe Harden had nine.

Coming out of the half-up four, the Cornhuskers got out to a quick ten-point after a pair of UC Davis turnovers. After a Jimmie Harris missed layup, Cookie Miller took it down on the other end to hit a three in transition. UC Davis called a timeout, down thirteen they decided to go to a Watson and Oliver two-man game. Oliver at the time only had eight points, but running the two-man game with Watson he was able to find his openings to cut inside for easy buckets. Watson also got going offensively turning the rolls into layups and dunks at the rim. Putting the extra few inches he had on Nebraska's Krager to use.

The Aggies slowly dug their way back into the game, Todd Lowenthal played great defense slowing Cookie down the stretch. The two minutes to go the Aggies were only down four. Jimmie Harris, however, missed another layup which would've cut it to a two-point game. Harris struggled to hit the easy shots all game, causing him to get pulled for Joe Harden late.

With twenty seconds left Vince Oliver was fouled with the chance to cut it to a two-point game, he made both free throws. Then on the ensuing possession, the Aggies intentionally fouled Cookie Miller who missed his second free throw giving the Aggies a chance to tie the game. Coach Reid went to Vince Oliver for the last shot who got a screen from Jesse Lopez-Low to find himself open at the top of the key for three. Oliver hoisted his shot up but it clancked off the back of the rim as time expired.

Yeah, would've been nice to get our first win against a power conference school. I was pretty surprised at the way Watson stepped up he missed several very easy shots in his first game.
