Incredible effort by Oliver against Pacific. Feel like you're starting to find your groove in the user-played games offensively, and I'm still buying that the team is going to pull a shocker or two come tourney time!

Yeah, it's a shame we are going to lose him at the end of the year. Someone will have to step up big next year.

Yeah, I'm not sure what happened because in non-conference play I was doing fine as the user even upset a power conference school and nearly upset another. This team definitely has the firepower to come out and win some games come the conference tourney plus Vince Oliver won't want to end his college career without a fight,

Auburn Getting Hot as the Season Winds Down

As we enter the last week of the season, the top stays the same with UCONN and North Carolina continuing to hold the top two spots in the poll as they have almost all season. However, behind them, some new teams are surging up the polls. The rest of the top 5 is made up of three teams who weren't in the top 15 a month ago.

Auburn in particular has been incredibly hot winning thirteen straight. The Tigers started off the season slow but in the second half of the season have found a winning formula. Their high-scoring offense is led by Senior Point Guard Quantez Richardson along with Korvotney Barber. Barber is averaging 19 and 8 on the season along with two blocks.

Alabama has been struggling lately, only winning one of their last five games. Their offense has struggled with the Crimson Tide only averaging 54 points over that stretch. Michigan State has also fallen down the polls with recent losses to Penn St and Iowa who are both six games under .500.

The Miami Hurricanes moved up six spots, however, this blogger questions the poll on this. The Hurricanes recently lost to North Carolina by 34 points at home. In the defense of the polls the Hurricanes did respond with two blowout wins of their own.

Stanford is another big mover with wins over 14th ranked UCLA and 10th ranked Washington in recent weeks. The Lopez twins Brook and Robin have dominated the paint averaging a combined 34ppg.

The Kentucky Wildcats have reappeared on the polls, led by Patrick Patterson and Jodie Meeks. The Wildcats responded to two straight losses with three straight wins all over ranked opponents.

In the mid-major poll, Gonzaga stays at the top, whilst UW-Green Bay and Middle Tennessee continue to rise. UW-Greenbay hasn't made the NCAA tournament in over a decade, however, a six-game win streak has made them one of the hotter teams in college basketball. Meanwhile Saint Mary's has collapsed. Saint Mary's was considered one of the top teams in college basketball but recently have lost three straight.

Aggies win in Regular Season Finale
                    March 7, 2009

SANTA BARBARA -- The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos and UC Davis Aggies met up Saturday in both teams regular season finale. The Aggies had pulled up a last second victory at home over the Gauchos earlier in the season. Recently the Gauchos have lost their last five games whilst the Aggies are on a two win streak.

UC Santa Barbara got out to a hot start in this one, led by some early steals and open looks inside. UC Davis was struggling to find itself on offense. The 2-3 zone of UC Santa Barbara was leaving lots of open looks but the Aggies couldn't convert. Todd Lowenthal also got into early foul trouble picking up three fouls in the first few minutes.

Due to Lowenthaal's foul trouble, Vince Oliver played point guard for most of the first half. Oliver in particular struggled from deep shooting 1-8 in the game. The team tried to find Dedrick Watson down low but he struggled to get good positioning in the post.

On the other end of the court, Junior point guard James Powell led the way for UC Santa Barbara. Powell hit some early shots but was also able to find both Norman Winkfield and Quentin Lang down low for easy buckets. The Gauchos were able to build a seven-point lead going into the half.

                    UC Davis Stats:

                    UC Santa Barbara Stats:

After halftime, UC Santa Barbara briefly built their lead to twelve after sophomore Darell Hackstadt hit a three. However, the double-digit lead didn't last long as the Aggies surged back. Vince Oliver was able to start getting inside for easy buckets. Joe Harden and Nate Clark both hit big three points. Soon enough UC Davis found themselves down only two.

That's when the foul trouble started for UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos committed eight of their eleven fouls in the second half. Sending Todd Lowenthal and others to the line over and over. The Aggies took the lead on a Joe Harden turnaround jumper. After that they never looked back, the shots started to brick for UC Santa Barbara as they shot 34% in the second half. T

UC Davis was able to extend their winning streak to three as they enter their first-ever Big West conference tournament.

We're coming in sixth in the tourney, not ideal but I'll take it since the team missed it last year.

Yeah it's nice to get a few wins off even though two came from sims, Oliver will need to keep going for us to stand a chance of winning the conference tournament.

I have Lowenthal there primarily as a ball-handler/playmaker. He probably would've had more but he got into foul trouble early on so he didn't play most of the first half.

                              Conference Tournament Overview

By Dennis Kirkpatrick - Senior Writer

It's every college basketball fans favorite month of the year, March is upon us. This is the time of year where everything teams have played for all season comes together. Eight Big West teams will be competing in the Big West Tournament for an automatic big to the NCAA Tournament.

(1.) CS Fullerton vs (8.) UC Irvine

CS Fullerton hasn't been to the NCAA tournament in 30 years, however, this year could change that. They have a high-powered offense which will give UC Irvine all they can handle. UC Irvine skated into the conference tournament with just four wins in the conference. The Anteaters don't have a particularly good offense or defense, however, they do have experience with a team full of upperclassmen.

(4.) Long Beach St. vs (5.) Cal Poly

Cal Poly versus Long Beach State is the classic battle of good offense going against a good defense. On offense, Long Beach State plays a slow methodical style eating up clock and only taking good looks. Whilst Cal Poly plays at a fast pace driving inside or kicking out to shooters.

(2.) Cal State Northridge vs (7.) UC Santa Barbara

UC Santa Barbara is hoping to reach the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row and despite their poor conference play, they have confidence they can do it. They have the youngest frontcourt in the conference with three freshmen. However, Junior point guard James Powell leads the team. Cal State Northridge hasn't made the tournament in nearly a decade but this year they've put together a well-balanced team led by upperclassmen. They've gone 8-2 over their last ten games and feel as if they're hot at the right time.
