Tough stretch. What type of adjustments are you thinking of making here?

It's been a frustrating stretch, that game in particular, was rough. Watching a close game that we could finally win get out of hand quickly in the final minutes it seemed like nothing could go right.

Right now I'm sitting relatively pat, there's some adjustments I'll make on the wings to try and avoid so many 3s. However, one of the biggest issues is we as a team just haven't been hitting threes lately. I think once we break the slump things will turn around.

Watson is a fun player, he's not the highest overall but I really enjoy his ability to score from all over as a center. He doesn't quite have three-point range but he can hit a midrange shot and has nice footwork.

It was more the turnovers, it seemed like we couldn't advance the ball past halfcourt because every pass was a turnover.

With, about a month left in conference play things are very tight with only a couple of games separating the teams at the top from the bottom.

In out-of-conference play, Call State Fullerton struggled and was not able to capitalize on their talent. However, since entering conference play they've been on a roll and the clear best team in the league so far.

Cal State Northridge lost three of their first four conference games. However, since then they have ripped off five wins in a row. They have the best backcourt in the conference. Senior Guards Josh Jenkins and Deon Tresvant have tore it up recently. Jenkins in particular is both one of the best scorers and passers in the league.

The young UC Santa Barbara Gauchos have handled business lately winning three of their last four. While they aren't the best scoring team in the conference they play tough defense and get to the basket.

Long Beach State came into conference play as the known rated as the second-best team. Their stellar defense was seen as something that could give them the edge in a Big West loaded with offensive teams. They got off to a hot start but have since lost three of their last four games.

Cal Poly has been one of the hottest teams in the conference recently winning four in a row, which started after they blew out UC Davis. The Mustangs push the pace and can shoot from deep. Their leading scorer Trae Clark is one of the best all-around players in the conference.

UC Irvine is highlighted by a lack of star power but a plethora of experience. They got off to a nice start in conference play but lost five straight games. However, last night they beat CS Fullerton the best team in the conference. This could be a sign of a turnaround.

Pacific was the most hyped preseason team in the conference many thought they could be one of the best mid-major teams in the entire NCAA. However, they have never found their chemistry. At some points beating great teams but then the next night losing to a team well below five hundred.

UC Davis is a confusing case, they had the best out of conference record and had some strong performances against power schools. The young Aggies have struggled in conference play, getting blown out several times. However, the Aggies have also taken several teams down the wire and ended up losing. A few bounces going their way and their season could be very different right now.

UC Riverside has never been able to get a roll going this year. Despite an all Senior starting five, the Highlanders are by far the worst team in the conference. They've been losing by double digits in almost every single game.

It’s 8 team so as long as we’re not the worst we’ll be in. I really feel like we can turn things around and finish strong heading into the conference tournament.

The eight-team tourney field is good news then - just have to get in and you have a shot. There have been signs shown that this UC Davis side can be a good team, hopefully it clicks here in February and March.

I agree, we've beaten some good teams and lost to some bad ones. We'll find out who the real UC Davis Aggies are over the next two months.

I enjoy both, I play NBA2k22 online with friends still. I enjoy both but I think dynasty-wise for me at least I prefer playing College Hoops. I'm more of an NBA guy when it comes to watching. However, I love how College Hoops 2k8 is as much a story about your coach's story as it is about the team. It's the journey of your coach from a small school at the bottom of the NCAA as he rises up the ranks. Plus the constant turnover makes it fun because good things never last.

                        Titans Sneak Away with win
                        Febuary 12th, 2009

Fullerton -- After losing four of their last five games, UC Davis beat UC Irvine in dominate fashion last Saturday. They felt like they had gotten back onto the rails and were excited to look for revenge against Cal-State Fullerton. Earlier in the season CS Fullerton beat the Aggies with a buzzer beating shot.

UC Davis got tipped off and Jimmie Harris of the Aggies was able to get a wide-open lane to slam it down. Harris was hot early in the game and would carry the Aggies offense the first few minutes scoring eight in the first four minutes of the game. The Titans went to their star point guard Josh Akognon. Akognon cut the Aggies defense up, dishing it to open shooters and finding his own shots from mid-range.

Off the bench, Joe Harden came up big for UC Davis, Harden had thirteen points when the rest of UC Davis's bench was largely struggling to score. Nate Clark one of the best sharpshooters in the conference missed several wide-open threes. Cal State Fullerton was not missing their threes, however. As they shot 7 for 10 from deep in the first half. That hot three-point shooting allowed the Titans to pull away and build a ten-point lead.

                        UC Davis Stats:

                        CS Fullerton Stats:

In the second half, the Aggies went to Vince Oliver, Oliver was playing motivated hitting shots from deep and having one of his best passing games of the season. Despite a good night from Todd Lowenthal, Coach Reid had Oliver running point several times in the game. The threes slowed down for CS Fullerton in the second half as they shot 4-9, still a good percentage but far from their red hot shooting in the first half.

Dedrick Watson stepped up on defense blocking three shots, Jimmie Harris would also get two blocks. This defensive effort allowed the Aggies to creep back into the game. A rare turnover from Josh Akognon allowed the Aggies to cut the lead to just four with five minutes left. The big 300lber Eddie Lima held strong inside for the Titans. Lima grabbed four offensive rebounds in the last few minutes of the game. This proved huge in allowing CS Fullerton to get extra shots to keep the lead.

With 30 seconds left the game was tied up after a Todd Lowenthal dunk. Out of the timeout, the Titans gave the ball to Keeler who had hit the game-winning shot against UC Davis last time. Keeler held the ball at the top of the key for twenty seconds before he drove the ball inside and put up a layup with five seconds left. The layup rolled off the rim but a whistle was called, sending him to the line where he sunk both free throws. With five seconds left UC Davis ran play which allowed Vince Oliver to get open for three where he put up his shot as the buzzer sounded and the shot clanked off the rim, CS Fullerton wins.

Yeah on the plus side they are the best team in the conference and we took them down to the wire both times despite not nearly having as much talent.

I know, both of these losses to them were incredibly frustrating because I felt like I was going to win both. Right now I'm itching to finally win a game when I play since we have been winning the conference games I sim but for some reason it's me who can't win when I play.

Pacific Offense too Much for UC Davis
                                Febuary 29th, 2009

STOCKTON -- Thursday night the Pacific Tigers took on the UC Davis Aggies. The Tigers are the most talented team in the Big West with two Seniors who could be potential pro players, many expected them to have a terrific season. However, they've struggled with chemistry and have never been able to come together as a team.

Sophomore guard Terrell Smith started the game hot for the Tigers, he hit multiple tough mid-range shots over UC Davis defenders. For the Aggies, Vince Oliver was also red hot early, Oliver very quickly picked up eight points. Oliver attacked from all over hitting a shot from deep and driving inside for a bucket.

The teams went back and forth throughout the first half. However, one thing was clear, the Tigers took on a much more team approach whilst the Aggies only had one player hot. Anybody not named Vince Oliver couldn't hit a shot, Dedrick Watson the second leading scorer for UC Davis never could get a position inside. Off the bench, the Aggies couldn't get much offense either.

Vince Oliver's hot hand kept them in the game, Oliver diced the defense up using an array of moves. He had twenty points in the first half a career-high. This was a major turnaround for Oliver who had been struggling a bit lately.

                                UC Davis:

                                Pacific:

In the second half, the Tiger's offense came out red hot led by Steffan Johnson and Anthony Brown. They played a two-man game centered around pick and rolls. Once Brown began to pound the paint the Aggies defense sunk in and then the Tigers switched to shooting threes. Pacific shot five threes in the first half, in the second they shot thirteen. Hitting on eleven of them. The Tigers lethal attack from deep allowed them to build a fifteen-point lead in quick fashion.

Vince Oliver tried to bring UC Davis back into the lead having another great half. Todd Lowenthal and Jimmie Harris also stepped up to contribute however, their offensive attack was nothing compared to Pacific's. Several times the Aggies got the game within single digits only for Anthony Brown to dunk it down inside or for Terrell Smith to hit a big three. Smith exploded from deep in the second half hitting four threes.
