    BRONCO'S SWEEP THE WEEK!!

As the non-conference schedule starts to unwind, Boise State picks up 2 more big wins to improve to 8-4 on the season with a road win over Wyoming and a road win over New Mexico. Here is a look at both win's..

VS WYOMING FINAL SCORE BSU-66 WYOMING-46

The Boise State "D" was in attendance tonight as the Broncos hold the Cowboy's to just 18 points in the first half (38-18). With a 20 point lead, Coach Scott gave the reserves some extra minutes which in turn led to 2 players scoring double digits off the bench.

Len Bullicer led the way with a double double with 12 pts and 14 rebs, well D. Andres making his 2nd start a PF, came up big again grabbing 13 rebs well scoring 9 pts.

Off the bench, though it was SR PG R. Richardson with a season high 10 pts and 7'0 Jesus Kennedy adding 10 pts and 4 rebs to go with his team high 3 blks.

    @ NEW MEXICO FINAL SCORE BSU-78 NMU-74

The Lobos came into the game (7-7), and showed they had a balance attack as they took a (44-36) lead into the locker room. But the Broncos battled back in the 2nd half as New Mexico went cold from 3pt (0/11 after going 7/10 in the 1st half) Missed shots led to the comeback as "R. Len Bullicer comes alive with a season high 22 pts. Len Bullicer is now the Broncos leading scorer at 13.6 PPG.

Cal Whitney returned from his injury and played 20 minutes off the bench to add 10 pts and 7 rebs well D. Nagata continues his solid Freshman campaign with 13 pts 4 reb and 3 assists.

      BRONCOS FALL SHORT!!

Coach Scott has already had several big upset bids in his early coaching career at UC Riverside and when he accepted the job at Boise State this season, the matchup with Duke on Christmas Eve was circled on the calendar from Day 1.

The Broncos came out firing on all cylinders as both the starting unit and reserves came up big to give BSU the (45-43) lead at the half led by Junior J. Plummer off the bench with 8 pts including 2/2 from 3pt.

Plummer would struggle in the 2nd half going 0/4 from beyond the arc, but still managed to score 8 pts to finish with a career high 16 pts.

Duke however just had to much firepower to overcome. Loaded with a roster of 5* All-Americans led by 6'10 SF Travis Davis of Medford Oregon who led the Blue Devils with a season high 27 pts. Sophomore PG F. Meredith also came up hugh with a double double of 17 pts and a career high 15 assits.

      (FINAL SCORE DUKE-100 BOISE STATET-91)

      OTHER KEY PLAYERS
      SO R. Len Bullicer-19 pts 6 rebs
      FR D. Nagata-18 pts 5 assists 2 steals

        WAC PREVIEW

Boise State enters WAC play expected to finish no better then .500. With the Broncos finishing 8-5 in non-conference play, Coach Scott hopes that they could somehow manage a few extra upsets to push to his 20 win goal, but after coming off just 3 wins last year in conference play even a 8-10 wins would be a huge improvement.

Nevada is the favorite after winning the conference tournament title the past 2 seasons. They boast one of the best players in SO PF C. Wilson (79 Overall) who was selected WAC FOY last season averaging just under 10 PPG. The Wolfpack finished their non-conference play at 9-4.

Fresno State is also heavily favored. The Bulldogs finished 11-3 in non-conference play, led by starting lineup with every player rated 73 or better.

Hawaii is a darkhorse to watch this season. The Warriors went just 6-5 in non-conference play, but they are averaging a conference best 79.6 PPG as well as RPG with 35.1

Also dont count out Utah State. The Aggies won the the regular season title last season but a weird non-conference schedule this year saw them play just 10 games going 2-8. However with SR C. Parks (22.2 PPG) anything is possible.

La Tech (4-8), New Mexico State (9-5), Idaho (5-5), and San Jose State (5-7) are expected to challenge Boise State for that #5 seed come tournament time..

          BRONCOS ON FIRE!!!

For Boise State and Coach Ryan, you couldn't have asked for a better start to the WAC season. The Broncos opened up conference play with a win over Nevada and then followed it up with road wins over San Jose State and La Tech before returning home to get wins over instate rival Idaho and Hawaii to start out 5-0 and increase their Overall Record to 13-5 on the season.

Here is a look at the first 5 games.

          BOISE STATE-76 LA TECH-74

The Bulldogs held for the last shot hoping to force OT, but came up short as BSU holds onto the win The Frenchman R. Len Bullicer scores a team high 20 pts well adding 7 rebounds, 2 steals and block shot. Freshman D. Nagata added a double double with 10 pts and 10 assists , well SR PG R. Richardson added 9 pts of the bench hitting all 3/3 3's.

          BOISE STATE-84 IDAHO-59

Idaho shot just 3/20 from 3PT and 19/51 FG as they fall to their instate rivals.

For BSU 4 of the 5 starters score in double digits, as only Len Bullicer finished with just 4 pts.

7'0 Jesus Kennedy took advantage of extra minutes with Bullicer on the bench with 4 fouls. Kennedy would score 10 pts and 8 reb.

Freshman D. Nagata was huge scoring 20 pts and dishing out 5 assists.

SO PG R. Cowans mad a run at a triple-triple as he finishes with 12 pts 6 rebs and 8 assists.

          BOISE STATE-79 HAWAII-59

The Warriors struggled to play defense on the Boise State Bigmen which resulted in the double digit victory.

Jesus Kennedy led the way with a career/season high 25 pts. R. Len Bulicer added a double double with 10 points and 10 reb, well J. Plummer added 15 pts starting at SF

            Coach Scott
"Our Defense was just not good. We have found success when we can limit our opponents from high scoring games and tonight we just didn't do that. The Bulldogs just couldn't miss tonight from outside."
Fresno got a solid 7/8 from 3pt from their bench led by D. Feist's 15 pts well the starting backcourt of PG R. Abdur-Rahim (14 pts) and SG D. Barlow (17 pts) led the starters.

              COACH SCOTT GOES FOR 20!!

With a 17-9 record and 3 games to play plus the WAC Conference tournament, Coach Scott's odds of finishing his 3rd straight 20 win season. Boise State will finish the season with a home game's vs (16-10) Fresno State and (12-11) Utah State before finishing it on the road @ (17-12) New Mexico State.

Coach Scott would love to get revenge against the Bulldogs, well Utah State is a key game as the Aggies are battling BSU for the WAC regular season title.

For New Mexico State, the game will also be big as the Aggies are also looking to finish strong and make their own run at 20 wins.

              PLAYER HEALTH UPDATES

Both SG D. Nagata (9.8 PPG, 4.6 APG, 36% 3PT) and J. Plummer-(7.4 PPG, 38% 3PT) are expected to see their time limited in the final 3 games of the season as both players are listed with Day to Day injuries. For Plummer its a bruised elbow and for Nagata its a pulled Quadriceps.

                BRONCOS WIN THE WAC!!!

Coach Scott and the Boise State Broncos closed out their regular season with 3 straight wins to finish the season 20-0 Overall and 12-4 in Western Athletic Conference play, winning the regular season title in Coach Scott's 1st year at the helm.

Here is a look at the past 3 games.

                [B]VS FRESNO STATE (FINAL 88-81)[/B

BSU took a pretty commanding 52-42 lead at the half with 7'0 JR Jesus Kennedy playing a big role as he scored 12 of his team high 20 pts. Kennedy also finished the night with a team high 8 rebounds.

Soph Dannoriss Andres back in the starting lineup with J. Plummer resting his injury, also played a key role as he adds 18 pts and 6 rebounds.

Freshman Dominic Nagata managed to add 13 pts and 6 assists but was just 1/5 from 3pt as he continues to deal with a pulled quad muscle.

VS UTAH STATE (FINAL SCORE 65-51)

The Aggies had their chance to try and force a share of the WAC title but managed just 19 points in the 2nd half as BSU holds Utah State to just 4/23 from beyond the arc.

With D. Nagata limited in action, Senior R. Richardson stepped up scoring 13 pts on 3/3 from 3pt, well Jesus Kennedy added a team high 15 pts off the bench, but the POG goes to Senior C. Whitney who posted a double double of 11 pts and 10 reb.

@ NEW MEXICO STATE (FINAL 89-81)

The Aggies came into the game (17-12) and new they would need a big win over BSU in order to pad their resume for a possible Bubble spot in the field of 64. Now their only hope will be a run in the WAC Conference Tournament.

BSU led (46-42) at the half despite shooting 0/8 from beyond the arc. In the 2nd half BSU would connect on 4/7 as they kept pace and padded their lead.

With Nagata actually take the day off in hopes to further heal and be ready for tournament play, Soph Ralph Cowans got the start at SG with Richardson running the point. Cowans made the most of the opportunity as he scores a season high and career high 20 pts including 9/13 from the stripe. He also dished out a team high 7 assists.

Junior Jeremy Plummer returned to the starting SF spot and added 10 pts on 2/6 from 3pt.

Nagata wasn't the only starter missing from the lineup tonight as the Frenchman R. Len Builicer also had the night off. Jesus Kennedy got the start and had 14 pts and 8 rebounds in his place.

It wasn't Senior Night tonight as the Broncos closed out the season on the road, but Senior Cal Whitney still got a large ovation from all in attendance as he closed out his regular season career with 17 pts and 5 rebounds. Fellow Senior R. Richardson added 8 pts on 2/3 from 3pt.

                CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT PREVIEW

Boise State will go into the tournament as the #1 seed. With a (20-9) Overall record and a current #8 ranking in the Mid Major Poll, many feel that BSU doesn't have to win the WAC tournament in order to get a invite to the Big Dance. Currently projected brackets have the Broncos as a #10 seed but a couple more wins could boost their potential to jump up.

                Coach Scott
"Ideally for us we would like to either win out and maybe climb to a #6 seed or honestly drop to the #11/#12. I honestly feel like it's our best hope of getting into the Sweet 16. Playing as a #10 and facing a #2 seed your second game is always tough and it's even worse being a #8/9 and having to play the #1"

The WAC Tournament starts Thursday with (9-17) Idaho taking on (12-17) San Jose State in the play in game. The winner will face Boise State.

Should BSU win their will face the winner of (17-13) New Mexico State vs (12-16) La Tech.

The other side of the bracket has (19-10) Nevada playing (18-12) Fresno State well (13-13) Utah State will face off against (13-15) Hawaii.

Nevada and Fresno State are both considered Bubble teams at the moment. The Wolfpack are currently #10 in the Mid-Major Polls well the Bulldogs are #14.

If New Mexico State or Utah State want any chance at a ticket to the Dance they will need the auto invite from winning the WAC to do so.

With my RPI and Mid-Major ranking, I am actually a lock right now. I simmed it out 5 times and I made it each time despite not winning the tournament. However if I can win all 3 games and finish with 23 wins, I would match Coach Scott's win total the 1st year at UCR and a win in Round 1 would give him a career high. That's what I am shooting for.

                    Thanks for checking in

                      BRONCO'S SWEEP THE WAC

Coming off just 3 wins last season, Boise State's season has been a shock to everyone but 1 man. When Coach Ryan Scott came to Boise he knew he had a team that could win basketball games. A 0-2 start vs Portland State and Idaho State didn't install alot of hope into many people and it got worse when the Broncos fell to Scott's former team from UC Riverside to start the year 1-3. But on Nov 23rd on a Sunday afternoon in Spokane Washington things changed. The Broncos went into "The Kennel" and shocked the Gonzaga Bulldogs with a (85-69) victory. Then 2 days later they beat a 20 win Oregon Ducks squad in Eugene, and followed it up with wins in their next 3 games. Then on Dec 24th BSU showed they could play with anyone in the nation despite falling (100-91) at Cameron Arena against the Duke Blue Devils

A 12-4 record in Conference play gave BSU the regular season title and 20 wins on the year and now Coach Scott is making history again as BSU wins the WAC title something they havn't done since 2008. Here is a recap of how it happened.

                      VS SAN JOSE STATE

The Spartans were one of 4 teams to beat the Broncos in conference play with a (59-50) win at Extra Mile Arena after falling to BSU (76-73) at home and the Spartans came close to pulling off the upset yet again.

BSU took a (40-34) lead at the half, but Senior SG Abe Bermudez quickly tied it up (40-40) with a pair of 3's Bermudez would go on to connect on 2 more 3's to score a game high 16 points leading all scorers but it was 1 of his 2 miss's on the night that ended the Spartans dream.

Down by just 1 point with 3.8 seconds on the clock, San Jose looked to get the ball to their senior sharp shooter, but BSU was ready with the double team and forced Bemudez to take a difficult shot that fell short as BSU holds on to the (73-72) victory..

BSU still dealing with injuries to starters and leading scorers D. Nagata and R. Len Bullicer saw a mix of player step up to help in the win.

SO SF D. Andres (13 pts) led the way, with SO PG/SG R. Cowans adding (10 pts and 7 assists) well 7'1 Jesus Kennedy added 12 pts and a team/season/career high 5 steals. Freshman Vic Robinson was also big with a team high 11 rebounds off the bench.

                      VS LA TECH

The Bulldogs opened up their tournament with a (76-62) win over New Mexico State, but were 1 of the 3 team BSU swept during the regular season. Coach Scott knew it's been proven to be very tough to beat the same team 3 times in 1 season, but the Broncos came out firing and hitting from beyond the arc to take a commanding (43-31) lead at the half. La Tech would actually outscore BSU in the 2nd half (36-35) but in the end it was BSU walking away with the (78-67) victory and a spot in the Championship Game.

With Nagata and Len Bullicer still limited in minutes (4 and 5) JR J. Plummer continued to show his ability to hit big shots going 4/4 from 3pt to finish with 16 pts well Jesus Kennedy continued to prove he deserves a look at the starting lineup next year finishing with a team high 19 pts, 7 rebounds and a team/season/career high 5 blocks. D. Andres came off the bench but managed 15 pts and 6 rebounds showing he might be better off serving as a 6th man ran then a starter, well R. Cowans continues to shine at SG hitting 3/5 from 3pt to score 13 pts along with 5 rebounds a team high 6 assists and 3 steals.

                      VS UTAH STATE

Like La Tech, BSU beat Utah State in both meetings early in the year but one was a (73-72) victory well the other was a defense battle (65-51) that saw Utah State star C. Park limited with 4 fouls.

Park a 6'10 Senior from Salt Lake entered the game was the WAC's leading scorer at 20.4 PPG, and Coach Scott knew if the Broncos were going to win, they needed to keep Park in check and BSU did just that.

Park took 22 shots including (0/5 from 3pt) but hit just 8/22 to finish with a team high 18 pts and 8 rebounds, but it was a lack of support that also was the downfall of the Aggies as the Broncos roll to a (67-58) win in the final to secure the automatic berth and a trip back to the Big Dance.

Nagata (12 pts 6 assists) and R. Len Bullicer (14 pts 9 reb) rejoined the starting lineup in the win. Jesus Kennedy led the bench with 11 pts well adding 3 steals and 2 blocks on the defensive end..

With the win BSU is now 23-9 matching Coach Scott's highest win total in his short career as he went 23-9 with UCR in his 1st season. A win in the NCAA tournament would be a history maker not only for Scott (24 wins) but also for the Broncos who have never won a NCAA tournament game. BSU is expected to be probably a 8/9 seed going into the tournament which could bode well for 1 win but a 2nd round matchup with a #1 seed would most likely end BSU's run early.

                        Re: SCOTT RETURNS TO CH2K8

It's Selection Sunday and who better then Clark Kellogg, Seth Davis and Greg Gumbel to bring you the details about what 65 times punched their ticket to the Big Dance. Before we get to the At Large Bids and seedings for each regional, lets take a look at some teams who came into the day on the Bubble as well as teams who punched their auto ticket with conference tournament wins.

In the American East, Boston U finished 4th in the conference but beat regular season champ Vermont for the auto bid finishing the year with a 22-9 record.

SD-It was a down year in the Atantic Sun Conference, Mercer (12-4/18-11) and Campbell (12-4/17-15) finished tied for the regular season title but Florida Gulf Coast won the auto invite finishing (14-16) and will play in the Play in Game with a chance to face a #1 seed.

GG- In past years the A-10 has produced as many as 6 teams for the tournament but this year only 4 teams will be dancing. Xaiver won the regular season title and tournament title finishing the year (24-11). They will be joined by 3 others who all finished with 20 or more wins (20-12) Rhode Island, (22-11) George Washington and (21-10) Dayton.

CK-Out West, Montana won the Big Sky going (10-6) after going 5-7 outside conference play. It's pretty likely they will be a #16 seed guy's.

SD-Coastal Carolina won the Big South going 10-4 and finishing 18-10 Overall but they will have to settle for the NIT after losing to Charl Southern in the title game. CSU is another team who finished with a sub .500 record (13-15) so it's safe to say they too will most likely a #16 seed.

GG- Talk about a down year for another Power Conference. The Big Ten has just 3 teams going to the dance. But Michigan State (16-2 and 30-3 Overall) is a lock for a #1 seed and should be a favorite to win it all. They will be joined by (24-8) Wisconsin and (20-12) Indiana.

CK-Yeah Ohio State (20-12) and Illinios (21-14) both had a look on the list of bubble teams guy's but their resumes just didn't get them a spot.

SD-UC Santa Barbara went 12-4 winning both titles this season and finished 18-12 Overall after UC Riverside struggled after Coach Scott left. (7-9 Big West and 14-17 Overall)

GG-In past years we have seen multiple teams from teh Colonial make it to the Dance, but this year UNC Wilmington (13-5, 24-9) is the lone representative.

CK-Yeah same for CUSA. Southern Miss and Houston shared the regular season title and Memphis went (20-8 Overall) but all 3 teams came up short as their bubbles were burst. Only (18-14) UTEP will be dancing.

SD-Butler has made the dance for 5 straight years now and with a (20-12) record they are starting to erase that Cinderella label.

GG- Yale went 12-2 in the Ivy and (21-7) Overall to finish with the schools best record. I think that warrents a middle type seeding vs past years when most Ivy league winners are #15/16 seed teams.

CK- Manhattan (21-9) was upset in the the quarter finals by Marist and the Red Foxes used it to make a run winning the automatic berth after finishing 4-14 in conference play and 14-18 overall

SD-It's a down year for the Mid-Majors, as the Mid Atlantic (Akron), Mid Eastern (Hampton) Patriot (Bucknell) , Sun Belt (W. Kentucky) all only get 1 invite.

GG- Yeah guy's I was surprised. It doesn't jus stop their. Gonzaga won the WCC going 13-1 after a 15-6 record in non conference play. But their 28-6 Overall record looks pretty week as no other teams besides St Mary's (19-10) won more then 15 games. I wouldn't be shocked if they are only a #3 or 4 seed.

CK-Boise State winning the WAC tournament was a huge hit to Utah State, Fresno State and Nevada. I don't think any of those 3 were even on the bubble this year.

SD-It was a huge year for the ACC as the top 8 teams make it to the dance led by Duke who went (15-1 and finished 31-3 Overall). The Blue Devils are a lock for the #1 seed.

GG-Well the ACC is loaded Seth look at the Big East. A whopping 10 teams made it after Cinnincati (18-13) and Pitt (19-15) both get At-Large bids. Also I think we are going to see at least 1-#1 seed and probably 2 or maybe even 3 #2 seeds out of this conference.

CK- The Big 12 had some great basketball this year guy's with 8 teams winning 19 or more games and all 8 those guy's are dancing this year.

SD-Past years we have seen teams from the Missouri Valley make a run in the tournament like Wichita State, Northern Iowa and Creighton but this year none even punched a ticket. Illinois State won the regular title but Drake (13-18) won the conference title and will play in the play in game for a chance at a #16 seed.

GG-It was a down year for the Mountain West. Both New Mexico (20-16) and TCU (20-9) had their bubbles burst leaving just regular season champ UNLV (12-4, 24-9 Overall) and tournament champ San Diego State (16-15) dancing.

CK-Same can be said for the Pac-10. Both Oregon (20-13) and UCLA (20-12) won 20 games but UCLA's poor conference record (8-10) left the Bruins and Ducks both headed to the NIT. UCS (24-9) Cal (24-9) and Arizona (22-11) are all going though and expect to see some single digit seeding.

SD-The SEC this year got only 5 teams guy's but 4 of those won 25 or more games led by Tennessee who went (15-1) in SEC play and (26-5) Overall. I think the Vol's could be a #1 seed.

Well there is a mini breakdown now lets look the final seedings, starting with the East

                        #1 Duke vs TBD
                        #8 Villanova vs #9 Dayton
                        #5 Wisconsin vs #12 Butler
                        #4 Florida vs #13 Akron
                        #6 Providence vs #11 Indiana
#3 Kentucky vs #14 UC Santa Barbara
                        #7 UNLV vs #10 Nebraska
                        #2 Texas vs #15 Marist.

SD-I really like Duke guy's I think they are probably the best team in the nation and I am not just saying it cause I played there.

GG- I think Florida despite being a #4 seed has a great chance at winning it all. They are playing really well after winning the SEC tournament with a 5 game win streak.

CK-Texas has 3 Seniors starting and 5 on the team overall. I really feel like they are going to push each other to make a deep run in this year's tournament.

                        Let's move out West

                        #1 Georgetown vs #16 C. Connecticut
#8 Iowa State vs #9 Pitt
#5 Clemson vs #12 Rhode Island
                        #4 Virginia vs 13 UTEP
#6 Arizona vs #11 George Washington
#3 Gonzaga vs #14 Western Kentucky
#7 Xavier vs #10 UNC Wilmington
#2 Louisville vs #15 SE Louisiana

SD-#1 Georgetown vs #2 Louisville would be a amazing Elite 8 game, but don't be shocked if #9 Pitt gives the Hoya's issues, if they meet in Round 2. It would be a rematch of the Big East title game, and Pitt won to punch their ticket to the dance.

GG-Gonzaga in past years have been a #1 seed. It will be interesting to see how they do playing against a top program like Arizona potentially in Round 2. I think we will see a early exit from the Zags

CK-Clemson was the only team to beat Duke in the ACC regular season and they fell just 4 points shy of beating them in the ACC tournament Championship game. I think the Tigers have what it takes to go deep in this tournament.

                        Now lets head down South

#1 Michigan State vs #16 Montana
#8 South Carolina vs #9 Boise State
#5 Seton Hall vs #12 Bucknell
#4 Cal vs #13 UNC Greensboro
#6 Kansas State vs #11 Oklahoma
#3 Miss State vs #14 Hampton
#7 Cincinnati vs #10 Virginia Tech
#2 UConn vs #15 Charl Southern.

SD-UConn might be the best #2 seed. They come into the tournament having won 10 straight games.

GG-Michigan State has lost only 3 games this year Clemson (88-65), Iowa (81-76 OT) and Illinois (72-66). I love their chances at a Final 4 run.

CK-Boise State has never won a NCAA tournament game, but I like their chances with South Carolina. BSU averages more points (75.3 to 72.1) and shoots better overall too (44 FG, 37 3pt) to (42 FG, 34 3pt). But like you Greg, I think a matchup with Michigan State will end the Broncos hopes in Round 2.

                        Finally its' the Midwest Regional.

                        #1 Tennessee vs #16 IUPUI
                        #8 Yale vs #9 Texas A&M
                        #6 Kansas vs #12 Boston U
#4 USC vs #13 San Diego State
#5 Miami FL vs #11 Florida State
                        #3 Maryland vs #14 Alabama A&M
#7 Georgia Tech vs #10 Baylor
#2 DePaul vs #15 Eastern Kentucky.

SD-I think Tennessee has a pretty smooth run to the Sweek 16. They average over 80 PPG well their opponents in both Round 1 and Round 2 don't even average 70.

GG-Kansas is use to being a #1 seed in past years. I bet they show the committee that they deserved a higher seeding.

CK-A ACC showdown of Miami FL vs FSU will most likely have every person in the state of Florida tuning in for this game. and whats crazier is the winner will most likely face another ACC opponent in Maryland in Round 2 and could even see #7 Georgia Tech in the Sweek 16.

                            BRONCO'S MAKE HISTORY!!

The Boise State Broncos made school history vs South Carolina winning their 1st ever NCAA tournament game well also giving Coach Scott a new career best 24 wins in a season in his 1st year at the helm of the Broncos. For a team coming off single digit win's last season this team has really come together and has a chance to be good for a for a very long time.

In typical fashion BSU fell behind early though and South Carolina built a (41-33) lead going into the half as they planted doubt into the hearts and minds of the Bronco faithful.

BSU however would come out in the 2nd half and all but abandon the outside shot and instead use the trio of Senior Cal Whitney, Soph R. Len Bullicer and 7'0 Junior Jesus Kennedy to lead the way. The trio would combine for 47 of the Broncos 75 points well also grabbing a combined 23 rebounds and blocking 4 shots. Well Kennedy led the team in scoring with 20 points it was SO PG Ralph Cowans who was named POG as he hits the game winning 3pt shot to give BSU the lead with just 2.8 seconds on the clock. Cowans would finish with 12 pts and a team high 8 assists as BSU pulls out the (75-72) victory.

                            Coach Scott
"This was a huge win for us. I know the 1st half started to put some doubt into the hearts of some of our fan's but I believe just like some do that this team is capable of a deep run. I know we have #1 Michigan State next (they beat Montana (82-70), but I feel like we proved we can beat great teams (Gonzaga) and play other great teams really well (loss to Duke and UNLV)"

1ST ROUND STORY'S FROM THE DANCE

All the #1's and 2's won their opening round games but Round 1 wasn't completely void of upsets.

#3 Gonzaga came into tournament as somewhat overrated by some and Western Kentucky showed why as they held the Bulldogs to just 48 points in a (65-48) loss.

Freshman PG B. Spencer was the only player to score double digits (15 pts) well SR SG J Sneed finished 0/7 from beyond the arc.

#5 Clemson however was a team many felt like could've been that #3 seed and the Tigers too fell short as Rhode Island scores 50 points in the 1st half to take a (50-34) lead and they held on to it winning (80-66).

                              Other note worthy upsets included

                              #11 Indiana beating #6 Providence (90-80) setting up a Indiana/Kentucky matchup for Round 2.

#10 Nebraska beat #7 UNLV and will take on Big 12 rival #2 Texas in Round 2.

#11 George Washington beat #6 Arizona (89-66) and will face #14 W. Kentucky as one of the team is now guaranteed a spot in the Sweet 16.

#11 Oklahoma beat #6 Kansas State in the matchup of the Big 12, well fellow Big 12, #5 Kansas falls to #12 Boston College (89-85) in another upset.

Miami FL beat Florida State and will now take on Maryland in another ACC showdown, well #7 Georgia Tech beat #10 Baylor
                              .
