BRONCOS BOUNCE BACK BIG ON AND OFF THE COURT!!!
The Boise State Broncos bounced back after their loss to Stanford with a pair of victories over Pac-10 opponents including Top-25 ranked Arizona State handing the Sun Devils their 1st loss the the season.
@ ARIZONA STATE (86-69)
The Sun Devils actually came into the game a perfect 7-0 after beating LSU the night before they faced the Broncos, so maybe that's why they struggled in the 2nd half?
ASU led (39-37) at the half but was outscored (49-30) in the 2nd half as they go just 9/26 from deep.
JR I. Carroto led ASU with 20 points and was 4/6 from deep, but the rest of the team was just 5/20.
SR SG Saol Modica (former 5* AA) added a double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
For BSU it was Cory Toumou leading the way and taking POG honors yet again with 23 points and 8 rebounds. PG W. Blancett added a season/career high 15 pts and 4 assists hitting 4/7 from 3pt.
Veron Rasmussen had a solid game on both sides of the court with 9 points 8 rebounds 5 steals and 4 blocks.
@ OREGON STATE (94-81)
The Beavers came into the game (7-2) including a win over Top-25 ranked Texas A&M earlier in the week, but the Broncos came out on fire leading (52-38) at the half.
SR SG M. Keller had 24 points 5 rebounds 5 assists and 3 steals hitting 6/10 from 3pt in the loss.
Fellow SR and former MR BB E.J. Malone added 11 points going 0/2 from deep. The 6'8 SF was highly recruited by BSU out of high school in Medford Oregon but chose to stay home and play for the Beavers instead. For his career he has averaged 8.0 PPG but is currently averaging 9.7 PPG as a Senior.
For BSU it was Cory Toumou with POG honors and another double double on the season as he has 21 points and 11 rebounds. Vernon Rasmussen also has a double double with 18 pts 13 rebounds and 3 blocks.
W. Blancett (13 pts 6 assists (3/3 3pt) and J. Moore (10 pts 2/4 3pt) also finish in double digits.
RECRUITING UPDATE
Coach Scott and the Broncos entered the season with 3 scholarships to offer as they look to replace starting SF I. Dilligard, PF V. Rasmussen and reserve forward V. Robinson.
Coach Scott
BSU offered all 3 scholarships early but came away with just 1 early committment.
7'1 Cletis Grkovic from Everett Washington (4* Ranked #53 Overall/#3 C) turned down the Broncos and instead will stay closer to home and play for the Huskies at UW.
6'7 Marcus Simon from Stockton CA (4* #33 Overall/#6 PF) is doing the same as he picks the Cal Berkley Bears over the Broncos.
However Boise State did get 1 commitment and it's a big one as 7'0 Niemer Shaves is staying home (Nampa Idaho) and playing for the Broncos.
Shavies is a 3* Recruit and Ranked #220 Overall and the #20 Center, but Coach Scott is quick to remind that current leading scorer Cory Toumou wasn't highly recruited either.
