BRONCOS BOUNCE BACK BIG ON AND OFF THE COURT!!!

The Boise State Broncos bounced back after their loss to Stanford with a pair of victories over Pac-10 opponents including Top-25 ranked Arizona State handing the Sun Devils their 1st loss the the season.

    @ ARIZONA STATE (86-69)

The Sun Devils actually came into the game a perfect 7-0 after beating LSU the night before they faced the Broncos, so maybe that's why they struggled in the 2nd half?

ASU led (39-37) at the half but was outscored (49-30) in the 2nd half as they go just 9/26 from deep.

JR I. Carroto led ASU with 20 points and was 4/6 from deep, but the rest of the team was just 5/20.

SR SG Saol Modica (former 5* AA) added a double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

For BSU it was Cory Toumou leading the way and taking POG honors yet again with 23 points and 8 rebounds. PG W. Blancett added a season/career high 15 pts and 4 assists hitting 4/7 from 3pt.

Veron Rasmussen had a solid game on both sides of the court with 9 points 8 rebounds 5 steals and 4 blocks.

    @ OREGON STATE (94-81)

The Beavers came into the game (7-2) including a win over Top-25 ranked Texas A&M earlier in the week, but the Broncos came out on fire leading (52-38) at the half.

SR SG M. Keller had 24 points 5 rebounds 5 assists and 3 steals hitting 6/10 from 3pt in the loss.

Fellow SR and former MR BB E.J. Malone added 11 points going 0/2 from deep. The 6'8 SF was highly recruited by BSU out of high school in Medford Oregon but chose to stay home and play for the Beavers instead. For his career he has averaged 8.0 PPG but is currently averaging 9.7 PPG as a Senior.

For BSU it was Cory Toumou with POG honors and another double double on the season as he has 21 points and 11 rebounds. Vernon Rasmussen also has a double double with 18 pts 13 rebounds and 3 blocks.

    W. Blancett (13 pts 6 assists (3/3 3pt) and J. Moore (10 pts 2/4 3pt) also finish in double digits.

    RECRUITING UPDATE

Coach Scott and the Broncos entered the season with 3 scholarships to offer as they look to replace starting SF I. Dilligard, PF V. Rasmussen and reserve forward V. Robinson.

    Coach Scott
"We added alot of backcourt shooters last season and I knew going into this year we need to look more at size this season."

BSU offered all 3 scholarships early but came away with just 1 early committment.

7'1 Cletis Grkovic from Everett Washington (4* Ranked #53 Overall/#3 C) turned down the Broncos and instead will stay closer to home and play for the Huskies at UW.

    6'7 Marcus Simon
from Stockton CA (4* #33 Overall/#6 PF) is doing the same as he picks the Cal Berkley Bears over the Broncos.

However Boise State did get 1 commitment and it's a big one as 7'0 Niemer Shaves is staying home (Nampa Idaho) and playing for the Broncos.

Shavies is a 3* Recruit and Ranked #220 Overall and the #20 Center, but Coach Scott is quick to remind that current leading scorer Cory Toumou wasn't highly recruited either.

    Coach Scott
"Right now with Toumou only a Junior and backup Center H. Hampton only a Soph, we feel like Niemer is a great addition as he can see a redshirt season next year and hen still have 4 years to either push Hampton for the starting job or be a valuable backup for 2 years and then start his final 2 years."
Shavies played for the Idaho Thunderstorm this past ABL season and averaged 13.8 PPG, 11.8 RPG, 2.0 SPG, and 2.0 BPG

Coach Scott must have some high standards a top 250 recruit isn't "highly recruited."

I think Niemer Shaves will be a major contributor for you guys. 7'0 and a high three-star, should be a nice player.

Coming off a National Title, and now true PF's on the team other then Rasmussen who is graduating, I really thought we would have more guy's interested in a potential starting job.

Honestly a Top-250 player is a solid land in Years 1-4, but I am 7 year's into this with this being my 5th at Boise State with 3 Elite 8's and a National Title I feel like I need to be landing Top-100 guy's if I am really going to turn this program into another Gonzaga, but you are correct Shavies should/could dominate the WAC and could start next year with Toumou moving to PF for his final season. However I will say it's been pretty nice having a 6'9 PF who has 75 3pt rating it really does help spread the floor. Toumou is like a 65, but has knocked down a few as well.

          BRONCOS BACK IN TOP-10!!

Coach Scott and Boise State's dream of a undefeated season ended with a loss on the road to Stanford, but after some think it might have been for the better.

After the loss BSU cruised to win's over Top-25 ranked Arizona State and beat a solid Oregon State team. The Broncos then extended their win streak to 5 games picking up a huge road win over BYU before returning home with another pair of wins over Pac-10 opponents in Oregon and Cal. Here is a recap of the 3 games.

          @ (7-2) BYU (W) 78-74

The Cougars came in with their own 5 game win streak led by 7'0 SR Deanthony Jordan (18.1 PPG). and a pair of 5* AA in their backcourt. SG Freshman Doug Snipes (#19 Overall/#8 SG Mr BB from Spokane WA) and Sophomore PG F. Fuller (#6 Overall/#4 PG Mr BB from Odgen UT).

But BSU would take a (44-38) lead in the 1st half which turned out to be enough as the Broncos fight their way to a 4 point victory.

Jordan would lead all scorers with 24 points well Fuller (8 pts 7 reb 7 asts) and Snipes (9pts 4 asts) combined for a solid 17 pts 7 reb 11 assists.

For BSU it was Cory Toumou putting up a solid double double of 13 pts and 12 rebounds to go with 3 assists, 2 steals and 3 block shots. V. Rasmussen added a team high 16 pts well R. Pekkola added 14 pts of the bench hitting 2/3 from 3p.

          VS (6-2) OREGON (W) 64-61

Boise State would trail at the half (37-29) as the Broncos struggled to find their shot from beyond the arc hitting just 2/12 in the 1st half, but they would in the 2nd half hitting 5/9.

The winning shot came from a unlikely hero as SR V. Robinson scores the final 6 points for the Broncos. Robinson who was 0/4 on the night would hit a bucket and Free throw with 13 seconds to play. BSU then trapped and stole the ball at half court and J. Moore would find Robinson on the wing wide open for the game winning shot.

Robinson added a team high 10 rebounds to go with his 6 points. Cory Toumou continued his strong play with another POG honors as he scores a team high 19 points to go with 9 rebounds just missing out on another double double.

          VS (7.3) Cal (W) 76-59

The Bears had their own Top-25 ranking to start the year and after a 5-0 start including a win over Kansas State it appeared Cal was on their way to another at a 20+ win season. But the wheels came off with a loss to #2 Texas on the road followed by a pair of home loss's to Marquette and Saint Mary's.

BSU led (43-31) at the half and never really looked back. With a double digit lead most of the game, Coach Scott gave his bench some added minutes with each member playing at least 10 minutes as the Bench scores 34 of the Broncos points.

          C. Toumou was POG with 16 points and 6 rebounds and V. Rasmussen also hit double digits with 12 points and 8 rebounds, but it really was a team effort as everyone scored at least a bucket.

          H. Hampton led the bench with 10 points and 4 rebounds well SO D. Bennett dished out a team high 5 assists.

BOISE STATE IS NOW (9-1) ON THE YEAR AND RANKED #9 IN THE MEDIA POLL. THEY WILL CLOSE OUT NON-CONFERENCE PLAY @ #4 (11-1) USC FOLLOWED BY #14 (11-2) UCLA

            A DYNASTY BORN??

Since arriving in Boise 5 years ago, Coach Ryne Scott has produced a record of 120- wins and 22 loss's including a 33-3 record in his 2nd year with a Elite 8 showing and a 35-2 record with a National Title last season.

Now with another pair of victories over Top-25 ranked USC and UCLA this week, Coach Scott and his team has produced a 11-1 start and a #6 ranking in the Top-25 Media Poll and Coaches Poll. Giving Coach Scott a very good chance at doing something he has yet to accomplish in his young career. A #1 Ranking and a #1 Seed in this year's NCAA tournament. Can Scott and the Broncos run the table in the WAC ? Stay tune to find out. But before we get there let's take a look a the past 2 games.

            @ #4 (11-1) USC (W) 87-75

Despite hitting just 1 of 6 attempts from beyond the arc, BSU would manage to take a (43-35) lead at the half over the Trojans behind a season high 21 points from C Toumou.

Toumou would continue to work over the Trojans 7'2 FR Center Cary Morrison (3*) as Morrison fouls out with 3 minutes to play., as he watches from the bench as Toumou scores a career/season high 33 points to go with 8 rebounds and 3 steals (POG).

SR V. Rasmussen also enjoyed another solid night with his 3rd double double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

            @ #14 (11-2) UCLA (W) 70-58

UCLA came into the game riding a 7 game win streak and a 6 game win streak at home inside Pauley Pavillion, but Coach Scott did it again picking up his 4th win over the Bruins in front of a sold out crowd of 13,000.

BSU would lead (46-38) at the half but turned it up on Defense in the 2nd half holding the Bruins to just 1/11 from beyond the arc and just 20 points overall.

The Bruins would finish the night 5/18 from 3pt including a 0/6 performance from SR SG T. Bass (1st Round pick status).

For Boise State it was Toumou (17 pts 7 rebs) and Rasmussen (11 pts 4 rebs, 2 blks) once again leading the way with Walkon JR SG R. Pekkola leading the bench with 14 pts as he goes 3/7 from deep.

            INJURY UPDATE

SO PG Wade Blancett injuried his groin in the Broncos win over Oregon State 3 weeks ago and since the injury Blancett has tried to play through it. However after another horrible night (0/6 from deep) Blancett is now shooting just 30% from 3pt (17/56, but 1/15 since getting hurt) after hitting 46% last season.

            Coach Scott
"Blancett will be a huge part of our offense and our starting lineup down the road, but we have decided as a staff and as a team that starting next week with conference play and our opener vs La Tech that Junior PG/SG Ray Pekkola will take over the starting PG job."
Pekkola- is currently #3 on the team with a 8.8 PPG well shooting a team best 54% from 3pt (21/39). The 6'5 Walkon from Memphis Tennessee has made 127/257 (.494%) of his 3's since joining the Broncos .

              MID-SEASON UPDATE

TOUMOU MAKING SOME NOISE FOR MORE ACCOLADES

When 6'10 Junior Cory Toumou signed his NIL to stay home and play for the Broncos, Boise State fan's were excited, but nobody knew the type of player Coach Scott could help mold him to be. Rated a 3* and the #121 Best player in his class and the #21 Center in the class, no power house programs came calling.. But after a redshirt season, Toumou took the nation by storm as he won the NCAA Freshman of the Year Award as well as he WAC FOY and was named to both the NCAA and All-WAC Freshman teams, averaging 13. PPG, 6.2 RPG, 1.5 SPG and 1.2 SPG.

Then last year Toumou upped his game and lead the Broncos to their first ever National Title averaging a team best 15.9 PPG, 6.8 RPG 1.7 SPG and 1.7 BPG.

Now 1 year later Toumou has taken it to the next level after 12 games, Toumou is averaging a team high 21.5 PPG (15th in the nation/ 2nd in the WAC) 7.5 RPG, 2.3 SPG and 1.3 BPG.

NBA KEEPING TABS ON CURRENT BRONCOS

The list of players from Boise State who have played in the NBA is a pretty short one ( 6).

Gus Johnson (Drafted in 1963, played 9 season 4 time All-Star)

Chris Childs (Drafted 1989, didn't play until 1994-1995 with the Nets)

John Coker (Undrafted in 1995) played 25 games over 3 different years/teams.

Coby Karl (Undrafted in 2007) Son of George Karl, played in 24 games

James Webb II (Undrafted in 2016) played n 10 games

Chandler Hutchinson (1st Round Pick #22 by the Bulls) currently a FA after playing in 6 games for the Suns last year.

**Currently 2 Broncos are receiving some Draft Buzz**

SR PF Vernon Rasmussen (13.8 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 1.3 SPG, 2.1 BPG,46% 3PT (Dark Horse)

              AROUND THE WAC

Well Boise State has enjoyed success during non-conference play with a 11-1 record, several other schools also are playing well. with only Fresno State (5-6) and Hawaii (6-8) turning in sub .500 records.

Nevada (9-4), New Mexico State (7-3), San Jose State (7-3) and Utah State (7-5) appear ready to give the Broncos a run for the WAC title and

BRONCOS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO 9!!

Boise State opened WAC Conference play in strong fashion averaging over 100 points in their first 3 games extending their winning streak to 9 games and climbing 2 spots in the Top-25 poll's to #4. Here is a recap of each game.

                vs La Tech (102-55)

It was raining 3's in Boise on Saturday night as the Bronco's connected on 15/27 from beyond the arc, as star center Corey Toumou played a season low 7 minutes do to foul issues, as he finished the night scoreless.

BSU led (53-34) at the half extended the lead early in the 2nd half giving way for the BSU bench to take over. as they continued to pour it on.

Ray Pekkola making his first career start at PG shined scoring 16 points (2/5 3pt) well adding 6 rebounds and 6 assists, but the man he replaced played he better off the bench.

Wade Blancett came into the game in a 1/15 (3PT) shooting slump but broke out in a big way hitting 4/6 from deep to score 17 points well adding 6 assists and 3 steals to take POG honors in Toumou's absence. With Toumou on the bench Seniors V. Rasmussen (17 pts 5 rebs 2 blks) and V. Robinson (13 pts 13 rebs for a double double) took up the the role of keeping the Bulldogs honest on D.

                @ Idaho (100-53)

Another huge night on both ends of the court as the Broncos smash their instate rival up north. BSU led (52-30) at the half on another strong night from beyond the arc.

BSU would finish 14/24 from deep well the Vandals were just 1/16 Only 1 Bronco finished without a 3pt make or attempt as even Cory Toumou connects on 1/2..

Toumou bounced back from his 7 minutes 0 point performance vs La Tech to score a team high 22 points to go with 12 rebounds as he takes POG honors.

Wade Blancett was just 1/2 from 3pt and scored just 6 points but did manage a team high/season high/career high 12 assists off the bench.

Jeremy Moore had his best outing of the season scoring 17 pts to go with 5 assists as he goes 2/2 from deep.

                V. Robinson also hit double digits off the bench with 14 pts and added 6 rebounds.

                @ Utah State (100-69)

The Aggies attempted to keep things closer as they finish the night 10/22 from 3pt including getting 15 points on 4/4 3pt from SO PG C. Abbott off the bench, but BSU still took a (55-39) lead into the locker room and continued their hot shooting from beyond the arc finishing the night 13/20.

All 5 starters for the Broncos finished in double digits well W. Blancett had another big night off the bench with 13 points on 4/6 from deep.

Toumou led the team and took POG honors yet again with 25 points 9 rebounds well Pekkola added 12 pts 5 rebs, 5 assists and was 3/4 from 3pt.

Moore, Dilligard and Rasmussen each finished with 10 points.

BSU WILL LOOK TO EXTEND THEIR WINNING STREAK 9 GAME OVERALL WIN STREAK AND 7 GAME WIN STREAK AT HOME WITH A PAIR OF GAMES VS SAN JOSE STATE AND FRESNO STATE

                  ROLLING!!!

Boise State added 2 more wins this week improving to 16-1 on the season and 5-0 in WAC Conference play as they extend their winning streak both on the season and at home in front of the home crowd.

                  VS SAN JOSE STATE (97-57)

The Spartans did what the first 3 WAC opponents couldn't do vs BSU and that was to hold the Broncos to under the century mark, but it was close.

BSU led (54-31) against a Spartan team missing it's leading scorer (Kudus Bragg-21.4 PPG) as SJSU shot just 7/25 from 3pt. For the Broncos it was the 4h straight game making 10 more more 3's as they finish the night 10/23 from beyond the arc.

The Broncos were led by V. Rasmussen with 22 points and 7 rebounds, with C. Toumou pitching in 12 pts 3 steals and 2 blks as well.

                  I. Dilligard added 15 pts hitting 2/5 from 3pt, well R. Pekkola still starting added 12 pts 5 reb and 5 assists hitting 2/3 from deep.

                  W. Blancett added 9 points and 9 assists off the bench just missing out on a double double well V. Robinson scores double digits for the 4th straight game finishing with 13 points.

Robinson is now averaging 9.7 PPG which is his best output of his career.

                  VS FRESNO STATE (82-74)

The Broncos havn't had a opponent keep it within 10 points since their 3 point win over Oregon over a month ago, but the Bulldogs did it. Well more like BSU just didn't play great. After making 10 or more 3's for 4 straight games, BSU was cold hitting just 4/20 from deep well several starters spent time on the bench in foul trouble.

Cory Toumou wasn't one of them though as he plays 34 minutes and finishes with a team high 18 points well adding 9 rebounds. V. Rasumussen also saw 30+ minutes and responded with 14 points 11 rebounds and 2 blocks.

With the Broncos struggling from the outside, the game plan was pound the post and even when Toumou and Rasmussen were out, Hampton and Robinson stepped up as Robinson adds 13 points and Hampton finishes with 12.

BSU WILL CLOSE OUT THE 1ST PART OF CONFERENCE PLAY ON THE ROAD @ HAWAII AND NEW MEXICO STATE BEFORE COMING BACK HOME TO HOST NEVADA.

BRONCOS CLIMB TO #2 IN POLL'S!!!

Boise State improved to 19-1 on the season with a trio of wins as they start WAC Conference play with a perfect 8-0 start. As far as the Poll's go, BSU is the only 1 loss team in the nation, but both the Media and the Coaches Poll's have (18-3) Louisville sitting #1

The Cardinals started the year with a loss @ Indiana State then lost to North Carolina on the road to close out non-conference play with a 10-2 before going 8-1 in Big East play with a home loss to St. John's but impressive wins over Top-25 ranked Villanova and West Virginia.

                    Coach Ryne Scott
"I understand winning games in the WAC is very much different then winning games in the Big East, but our non-conference schedule has us #2 in the nation only behind NC State with Louisville coming in at #8.. This just adds fuel to the fire. It's our goal to be #1 before the end of the season"
Coach Scott has never coached any of his team's to a #1 ranking or a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament. One has to wonder if he is able to accomplish both this season as well as a potential back to back National Championship, what would keep him at Boise State. Reports are several high profile programs including Syracuse, North Carolina, and Duke are all lining up for the potential to higher Coach Scott as their next coach.

Here is a recap of the last 3 games BSU played.

                    @Hawaii (91-65)

BSU led (40-30) at the half but turned it on in the 2nd half outscoring the Rainbow Warriors (51-35), with 6 players hitting double digits.

Cory Toumou led the way with 20 pts and added 5 rebounds well V. Robinson added 11 pts and 9 rebounds off the bench in the post.

BSU finished just 7/21 from deep with Pekkola scoring 13 pts on just 2/7 from 3pt. W. Blancett added 10 pts and 5 assists well also grabbing 5 steals well also going just 2/7 from deep.

                    J. Moore (12 pts 5 reb 5 ast, 3 stls) I. Dilligard (11 pts) were in double digits.

                    @ New Mexico State (90-81)

The Aggies almost pulled off the upset and end BSU's run. Tied (45-45) at the half NMSU went cold in the 2nd half after hitting 6/11 from 3pt, the Aggies finished 0/8 in their final 8 attempts from deep as BSU grabs win #18.

SO PG W. Blancett started the year as the team's starting PG but moved to the bench at the start of WAC play and so far he has shined. Blancett scored a season/career high 18 pts hitting 4/5 from 3pt as he takes POG honors.

                    C. Toumou (15 pts 7 reb), I. Dilligard (15 pts 8 reb 3/7 3pt), R. Pekkola (13 pts 4 reb 4 assists 4/11 3pt) and V. Robinson (13 pts 5 reb) all had solid games.

                    VS NEVADA (85-62)

6'10 SR Reid Montrimas started out hot scoring the Wolfpack's first 6 buckets to finish he 1st half with 16 of his team high 26 points giving Nevada the lead in the 1st half (44-43) but he got zero support from his team as he finishes the 2nd half with 10 of the Wolfpacks 18 points) as the Bronco Defense was on point tonight.

The BSU "D" would come up with 10 steals and 7 block shots on the night well also holding Nevada to just 3/15 from 3pt and 20/49 from the Field.

Cory Toumou led the Broncos with 22 points 6 rebounds and 2 blocks taking POG honors.

I Dilligard added 17 points on 3/6 3pt and W. Blancett was on fire off the bench with 14 points (4/7 3pt) and a team high 7 assists.

BRONCOS CLIMB TO #1 IN TOP-25 MEDIA POLL!!

Coach Ryne Scott has done it. In his 7th year and 5th year at Boise State, Coach Scott has built a very impressive resume guiding his teams to a 186-44 record and now has added to it with coaching a team to a #1 ranking in a Top-25 poll (Coaches still have Louisville #1 and BSU #2). With a 22-1 record Coach Scott has now won 20 or more games in every season he has coached.

Extending the Broncos win streak to 18 games however hasn't come without a cost. 6'10 RS JR Cory Toumou has been averaging 35 minutes a game so far this season, but in the Broncos win over La Tach, Toumou left the game early with what appears to be a back injury.

Here is a recap of all 3 games.

                      @ LA TECH (92-80)

For a 3rd straight game the Broncos opponent kept things close in the 1st half as the Bulldogs trailed by just 5 points (52-47), But despite Toumou (16 pts 6/11 FT) having to leave the game early, BSU would get 40 points from their bench including 3 players finishing in double digits.

Vernon Rasmussen took home POG honors as he tied Toumou with 16 points but added 6 rebounds and had 2 steals and 2 blocks on defencse.

6'11 SO Harold Hampton (16 pts) and RS SR V. Robinson (12 pts 5 rebs 2/6 3pt) were big off the bench playing in Toumou's absence, well Wade Blancett continues to shine off the bench with 10 pts on 3/4 3pt.

**Tomou's injury is listed as day to day for the next 12 days**

                      VS IDAHO (100-75)

Despite playing with back spasms and despite picking up early fouls (finished with 4), Cory Toumou still managed to put up 16 points and 8 rebounds in 22 minutes of PT.

For a 4th straight game the 1st half was close (46-42) but BSU dominated on the offensive end scoring 54 points in the 2nd half.

SR PF Vernon Rasmussen scored a season/career high 24 points and tied his career high with 5 blocks to take POG honors for the 2nd straight game.

Harold Hampton scored 16 points for the 2nd straight game getting extra minutes with Toumou on the bench and SR Victor Robinson extended his double digit scoring streak of 10 games as he finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds.

                      VS UTAH STATE (79-58)

The Broncos finally put together a strong 1st half on defense holding the Aggies to just 26 points as they take a double digit lead into the locker room (40-26).

Toumou failed to score in double digits though as he finished with 9 points on just 3/8 FG.

Harold Hampton however stepped up and actually took POG honors as he leads the team with 17 points and 7 rebounds.

Victor Robinson also had another big night as he adds 14 points and a team high 8 rebounds.

**Despite Toumou's injury, it's might hope to continue to try and push him to keep his PPG but it's already dipped to under 20 PPG (19.3) and with the CPU logic that this game has dropped to #3 in the WAC in scoring and Nevada's SR Reid Montrimias (19.8 PPG, 6.6 RPG 1.7 APG, 1.1 SPG, 1.7 BPG) appears to be the front runner for WAC POY. Montrimas also has A potential and is listed as a lottery pick in next year's draft. (Toumou is a C potential and will likely go undrafted not matter what stats I put up)**

                        BRONCOS EXTEND TO 20!!

Boise State extended their winning streak to 20 games and improved to 24-1 on the season with a pair of wins this week on the road. BSU will have 1 week off before finishing up WAC Conference play with their final 3 games of the regular season at home vs Hawaii and New Mexico State (*Senior Night*) and then Nevada on the road.

The Warriors are 11-15 on the season well the Aggies are 12-11. Neither is expected to give BSU much of a challenge but Nevada is currently 19-8 on the season and in 2nd place in the conference. Securing a win over the Broncos could be the resume difference maker Nevada would need to secure a At-Large bid to the Field of 64.

Here is a recap of the road wins.

                        @ FRESNO STATE (96-80)

Fresno State did their best to try and stay with the Broncos as the Bulldogs finish the night 11/23 from beyond the arc getting a career high 16 points from FR SG Madison Pattrick (3* Rated 71 Overall/78 3pt) as he is a perfect 3/3 from 3pt. SO PG S. Brempong (4* and last year's WAC FOY) added 12 pts 4 rebs and 7 assists in the loss.

                        I. Dilligard led the team with 16 points hitting 2/4 from deep but it was V. Rasmussen getting POG honors as he finished with a double double of 12 pts and 11 rebs.

                        C. Toumou was limited to just 13 minutes but managed 11 pts hitting 7/8 from the FT line.

V Robinson extended his streak of double digits off the bench with 12 pts

                        @ SAN JOSE STATE (81-66)

The Spartans battled in the 1st half and trailed by 2 (42-40) as Senior SG Kudus Bragg scores 14 of his team high 17 points. Bragg a former 5* AA (#15 Overall) currently leads the WAC in scoring at 20.2 PPG, but the rest of the team would finish the game just 2/18 from beyond the arc as the Broncos cruise to a 15 point win.

Cory Toumou bounced back with a solid 17 point game well Harold Hampton also added 17 pts as the duo combined to go 15/20 from the charity stripe.

                        V. Rasmussen just missed out on another double double with 9 pts and 10 rebounds but did manage to have a career night with 6 block shots..

JR SG J. Moore struggled scoring just 3 points but did manage to grab 8 rebounds and had a team high 8 assists.

                        V. Robinson's double digit scoring streak was snapped as he finished with 9 points. Robinson on the season has raised his PPG to 9.3 after averaging 7.3 PPG last season and just 4.4 PPG his first2 years on campus.

BRONCOS WIN STREAK MOVES TO 23!!

Boise State closed out their regular season adding 3 more wins to the record moving to 27-1 on the season winning their 4th straight WAC regular season Championship. BSU also retains the #1 Ranking in the Top-25 Media Poll going into the WAC Conference Tournament and finishes the regular season with the #2 RPI in the nation. Only a early exit in the tournament could keep the Broncos from obtaining their first ever #1 seed in the Field of 64.

Here is a recap of the 3 games.

                          VS HAWAII (98-66)

BSU dominated both half's (51-30) and (47-36) as they fall a bucket short of hitting the century mark. The Broncos were 10-27 from beyond he arc and 34-41 from the charity stripe as the Warriors struggled on both sides of the ball.

5 players scored in double digits led by former 5* AA Jeremey Moore who had 17 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 4 assists. This is the first game in 3 years that Moore has led the team in scoring.

JR PG/SG Ray Pekkola was injured in practice this week leaving SO Wade Blancett to join the starting rotation after starting the year as the team's PG and Blancett continued to shine adding 13 points (2/4 3pt) well tying Moore with 4 assists.

Cory Toumou continues to play hurt and logged just 22 minutes but still managed to score 15 points well I. Dilligard added 12 points with 4 of the 5 starters in double digits.

SR V. Robinson led the bench with 16 points on was 3/5 from 3pt

                          VS NEW MEXICO STATE (98-71)

It was Senior Night, as the SF Isiah Dilligard, PF Vernon Rasmussen and reserve PF/C Vytas Robinson all suite up for their last game in front of the home crowd.

BSU dominated in the 1st half leading (50-35) but that didn't stop Coach Scott from giving his Seniors extra minutes as Vytas Robinson leads the team in scoring off the bench with a season/career high 22 points.

Robinson a former 2* ranked #515 in his class, hit 4/7 from 3p and was 9/13 overall from the field.

Vernon Rasmussen also had a great night finishing with a double double of 13 pts and 10 rebounds well also adding 2 blocks on "D".

                          I. Dilligard was the only one of the trio to struggle. Dilligard picked up 2 early fouls in both halves and finished with 5 points 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

Cory Toumou (15 pts) and H. Hampton (13 pts) and W. Blancett (15 pts 4/8 3pt, 8 assists) all had solid games in their last game at home for the season. but all 3 will be back to help lead this team next year with Hampton most likely joining the starting lineup.

                          @ NEVADA (106-75)

After missing hitting the century mark in 2 straight games finishing with 98 points, the Broncos dominated the 2nd half to crush the Wolfpack as the secure the Chip.

Down by just 2 at the half (46-44) it looked like Nevada might have had what it took to pull off the upset, as Nevada came in on their own 4 game win streak and a (21-8) Overall record, but the Broncos couldn't be stopped in the 2nd half as they score 60 points.

BSU would finish the night 13/22 from 3pt and a whopping 43/55 from the stripe.

Vernon Rasmussen took home POG honors with 21 pts 4 rebs, 2 stls, and 3 blks.

Jeremey Moore had a double double with 16 points 10 rebounds well going 3/4 from deep.

Wade Blancett added 14 pts on 4/4 3pt and led the team with 4 assists.

Cory Toumou played just 12 minutes as Coach Scott looks to rest his star before the start of the tournament. He still managed to score 13 points.

Harold Hampton led the bench and played 22 minutes in Toumou's absence scoring 19 points.

                          RECRUITING UPDATE

With the regular season coming to a close, recruiting is over until after the tournament, but before it closed, Coach Scott did manage to offer up 1 of his 2 remaining scholarships as he offered 6'7 PF Geoff Riley of Hesperia CA a opportunity to join BSU next season. Riley is a 3* recruit rated #175 Overall and the #34 PF in his class. This past summer in the ABL, Riley averaged 11.0 PPG, 12.3 RPG, 1.3 APG and 1.1 BPG.

Riley currently lists BSU as his #3 school, behind both UCLA and Arizona but neither school has made a official offer yet. USC is #4 and also has yet to offer.

                          INJURY UPDATE

JR Center Cory Toumou's back is fully healed going into the tournament and should see increased PT as he looks to guide the Broncos to a possible repeat. Toumou finished the regular season averaging 18.0 PPG (4th in the WAC) 5.9 RPG, 1.5 SPG and .9 BPG.

JR PG/SG Ray Pekkola goes into the tournament listed day to day with a broken finger on his non-shooting hand. Coach Scott announced he will move back to a reserve roll after starting 13 games this season. Pekkola finished the regular season averaging 8.6 PPG after averaging 9.1 PPG last season, with a key difference being his shooting from beyond the arc. Last season Pekkola hit 64/122 (53%) but this season is just 45/107 (42%).

BRONCOS MAKE SCHOOL HISTORY YET AGAIN!!

After securing the regular season WAC Championship with a perfect 16-0 record, Boise State added a WAC Tournament Championship as well to finish the year with a 30-1 record retaining the #1 seed in the country in the the Top-25 Media Poll and has secure the #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament as they look to repeat as National Champions.

Here is a look at the WAC Tournament games.

                            VS IDAHO (94-48)

BSU played a complete game outscoring the Vandals (54-29) in the 1st half and then held Idaho to just 19 points in the 2nd half as they pounded their instate rival from the north.

BSU finished the night 12/22 from deep including 11 points on 3/3 from beyond the arc by SO D. Bennett. C. Toumou led the team with 16 points 6 rebounds and 2 blks, well V. Rasmussen added 15 pts 6 reb and 2 blks as well.

                            W. Blancett also had a solid game back in the starting lineup finishing with 8 points 5 assists and 5 steals, well fellow backcourt member Jeremy Moore added 13 pts .

                            SAN JOSE STATE (81-66)

The Spartans pulled off the upset beating Utah State in the opening round but didn't have what it took to upset the Broncos. BSU had a commanding lead (43-29) at the half and never looked back.

Ray Pekkola came off the bench to lead all scorers with 20 points going 7/10 from the field including 2/2 from 3pt and 4/5 from the stripe.

Vernon Rasmussen added a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, well Cory Toumou finished 1 rebound shy of joining him closing out the game with 11 points and 9 boards.

                            NEW MEXICO STATE (84-56)

Like SJSU, the Aggies pulled off their own upset beating Nevada which in turn will make sure they finish the season with a above .500 record going (15-14) on the year.

NMSU kept things close in the 1st half trailing (43-34) but managed just 22 points in the 2nd half as BSU's Defense went into shutdown mode.

                            V. Robinson lead all scorers with 16 points off the bench. Ray Pekkola had another solid night off the bench as well with 11 points 5 rebounds and 7 assists.

                            V. Rasmussen added 13 pts 7 rebounds 3 steals and 4 blks well J. Moore finished the night with 10 points on 3/3 from 3pt.

Moore who averaged 8.6 ppg during the regular season averaged 12 points over the course of the tournament. Reports are he is still a dark horse in potentially joining the NBA Draft at the end of the season.

                            BRONCOS SECURE #1 SEED

It's all but official, as BSU will have to wait until Sunday to hear what #1 seed they get, but right now projections have them as the #1 seed in the East where they will face the play in game winner. BSU has secured #2 seed's in Coach Scott's tenure at BSU including as season when BSU won the National Championship. This will be the first time the school as ever been the #1 ranked school in the nation as well well as the first time getting a #1 seed. If Scott can find away to take the Broncos who are the heavy favorite to win another championship to the end of "Glory Road", you can bet that every powerhouse program in the nation will come calling..

                              ROAD TO GLORY!!

It's official the Boise State Broncos will attempt to win a 2nd consecutive Championship as the #1 seed in the East. Entering the tournament with a 30-1 record and a lineup that returns 4 starters and 9 of their 10 man rotation, BSU is the heavy favorite to make another long run after going to the Elite 8 the past 3 years.

The road however wont' be easy.. Joining Boise State in the East will be #2 Duke.. The Broncos have beat the Blue Devils the past 2 seasons and trust me their 5 seniors havn't forgotten it. Duke opened the year 13-0 but struggled in a very strong ACC this season going just 10-6 as they enter the tournament as they enter with a 22-7 record.

Well Duke is most likely the team that will try and roadblock the road in the Elite 8,, ACC Champion Georgia Tech will most likely be the team waiting for them in the Final 4. The Yellowjacket's finished the year ranked #3 in the Top-25 Media Poll and enter with a (26-6) record as they secure the #1 seed in the West.

If beating Duke and Georgia Tech isn't tough enough. Well potentially waiting for the Broncos in the Championship could be either #1 Louisville from the South who finished the year as the #1 ranked team in the Coaches Poll. The Big East champs finished the year 28-6 Overall after going 15-3 in the Big East.

Or will it be #1 NC State in the Midwest. The Wolfpack are no strangers to playing in Final 4's (3) or winning National Titles (2). NC State tied G.T. for the best record in the ACC (12-4) and split their head to head matchup's during the regular season. They enter with a (24-6) overall record.

Well typically #1 seeds and #2 seeds get most of the storylines, many are wondering who is this year's Cinderella team (probably #5 Wright State). The Raiders won the Horizon going 15-3 and finished with a Overall record of (27-3) and is making just their 4th trip in school history to the Dance. But with veteran roster of 4 Seniors in the starting lineup and 4 Juniors in reserve, this squad is ready to slay some giants.

The other big stories isn't always who made it but who didn't. Here is a list of some note worthy teams not invited to the field of 64 this year.

UCLA (19-14) but just 8-10 in Pac-10 play.

Gonzaga (25-8) and 10-4 in WCC play, but finished 2nd to Portland and a RPI of 64 left them on the bubble.

Binghamton (23-8) and a perfect 16-0 in American East play but was upset by UMBC in the conference tournament, finishing with a #76 RPI

Xavier (26-8) finished 3rd in the A-10 but had a RPI of #68

Rhode Island (24-13) tied Xavier for 3rd in the A-10 but had a RPI of #74

Notre Dame (19-14) and 9-9 in the Big East but had a RPI of #44

UConn (19-13) also 9-9 in the Big East

Indiana (19-12) but just 8-10 in Big Ten play, RPI of #67

                                HOW SWEET THAT SOUND!!

For a 5th straight season, Coach Ryne Scott has guided the Boise State Broncos to the Sweet 16. BSU made quick work of the opening round opponent Oakland and continued to match that domination in Round 2 as they defeat #9 Boston College. The Broncos will now face #4 Wisconsin for their chance at 3 straight Elite 8 runs.

Here is a look at the opening round and 2nd round action.

                                VS OAKLAND (109-57)

Oakland kept it some what respectable in the 1st half trailing (48-31) a the break but the Broncos never let up scoring 61 points in the 2nd half as they finish the night 15/25 from 3pt and had 6 players in double digits.

SO PG W. Blancett and JR PG/SG R. Pekkola have shared the starting PG role all season and tonight they made a case that next year maybe both need to be in the starting lineup together. Blancett finished the game with a team high 22 points well adding 10 assists for the double double hitting a perfect 4/4 from 3pt, well Pekkola came off the bench with 17 points 8 rebounds and 4 assists hitting 3/6 from deep.

Cory Toumou added 16 points, well I Dilligard (13 pts 3/5 3pt) J. Moore (11 pts 7 assts 2/3 3pt) and H. Hampton (11 pts) also finished in double digits.

                                VS #8 BOSTON COLLEGE (103-77)

For a 2nd straight game, the Broncos finish over the century mark. But this time they actually trailed at the half (54-50). Well BC could miss a shot in the 1st half, the Eagles couldn't buy one in the 2nd half scoring just 23 points well BSU outscores them by 30 putting up 53 points despite finishing the night just 9/18 from deep.

It was a team effort by BSU as 5 players finished in double digits but the surprising thing was 3 of them came off the bench as the Broncos bench scores 58 vs the starters 45.

Harold Hampton had a team high 17 poinits and 9 boards off bench well Cory Toumou finished with 15 points. Vernon Rasmussen added a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and SR V. Robinson added 13 points.

Pekkola added 13 pts 4 rebounds and 5 assists but was just 2/5 from 3pt, well Blancett added 6 points hitting 2/4 from deep.
