        Re: The Cam Jackson Story

Cam couldn't believe the success he was having in such a short time. First getting a head coaching position so quickly, and now after his first season as a head coach he was able to lead a team that was 0-12 last season to 6 wins and a trip to a Bowl game. Know doubt there were lots of people out there that thought he would fail, or that he will fail, but he is intent on proving them wrong.

Since the season ended he has received a couple of phone calls offering him offensive coordinator jobs, but he has no interest in them as he wants to be a head coach, and if that means staying here at Eastern Michigan then he will. He likes this team, and he thinks they have a chance to be even better next year. There are plenty of wholes to fill in the lineup, but they have plenty of recruiting to do.

One thing for sure though, things change and they can change fast.

          Jackson To Coach Missouri Tigers

"I am here today to announce that I have been offered, and have accepted the Head Coaching position at the University of Missouri. This was a hard decision for me after the great season we had here at Eastern Michigan, but it is a step that I need to make at this point.

I love being the coach of the Eagles, and I love the school, the staff, and I love my players. It has been an honor to be the coach here. I will always be grateful for the chance this school gave me in making me the head coach. Thank you for your support, and belief in me. Eastern Michigan will always be a special place for me."

That was the statement given by Cam Jackson today announcing that he has accepted the Missouri Tigers coaching job. He did a fantastic job last year with the Eagles, lets see if he can do the same for the Tigers.

                  Tigers Dominate

                  Defense ruled for the Tigers
                  Photobucket">

In Cam Jacksons first game as the Missouri head coach, he lead his team to an easy 69-13 win. The Tigers were led on the field by freshman quarterback Scott Hill. When he wasn't throwing for over 260 yards, the Tigers were running the ball for almost 300 yards. The Bulldogs had no chance in this game as the Tigers were dominate from the first play of the game. The team seemed to be firing on all cylinders all day long.

Tigers runners were able to escape all day
                  Photobucket">

The defense was very strong all day. The held the Bulldogs to just 218 yards of offense. The Bulldogs only gained 38 yards on the ground all day. With the big lead the Tigers were able to concentrate on the Bulldogs passing attack allowing them to record 4 sacks and 2 interceptions. The starting defense would only allow 2 field goals, and it was the second string defense that gave up a 4th quarter touchdown.

This fumble was returned for a TD
                  Photobucket">

Cam Jackson said "We played very well, and overall I am pleased with the effort. I still think there is a lot of work to do, but I think we will get there with time. I would like to see the second string players play a little better, but we will work on that." The Tigers will play host to the Kentucky Wildcats next week.

                    Tigers 2-0

Holes like this helped the Tigers win
                    Photobucket">

The Missouri Tigers were able to win their second straight game this weekend over the Kentucky Wildcats 59-24. The Tigers offense was led by freshman quarterback Scott Hill who threw for 344 yards and 5 touchdowns. The pass game was not the only thing working for the Tigers, the ran the ball for over 200 yards as well. Larry Galloway led the way there rushing for over 100 yards for the second straight game.

1 of 5 touchdown passes for Hill
                    Photobucket">

The defense was very good as well. The only allowed 52 yards rushing to the Wildcats, but they did give up over 300 yards passing. But that is no surprise as the Wildcats are a pass first team, and they also were playing from behind the whole game. The Tigers defense had 3 sacks and intercepted 3 passes as well in this game.

This play was a pick 6
                    Photobucket">

"Our offense was very good again today, and the defense was solid all day" said Cam Jackson. "I am very pleased with the progress we are making this early in the season, but we need to keep making progress and not settle for where we are at. We have a big game next week with Alabama coming to town. They are one of the best teams in the nation again this year and it is going to be a tough game for us, but I think we can beat them.

Bama Rolls to Victory Over Mizzou

                      Alabama with a pick 6
                      Photobucket">

On a cold day in Columbia, the Alabama Crimson Tide were able to roll over the Missouri Tigers 48-24. The Tigers got off to a slow start in the first half struggling to get the offense going, but in the second half they got some offense going. In fact after trailing 24-3 at the half the Tigers came out and scored the first 2 times they got the ball cutting the Tides lead to just 7 points. After that Bama just rolled away with it. One bright spot for Mizzou was their running game was very solid again with Larry Galloway again running for over 100 yards.

Catches like this helped Mizzou get back into it early in the 2nd half
                      Photobucket">

The defense was not able to stop the running game of Alabama all day long. The Tide ran the ball and that set up their passing game all day. Bamas defense was very good in the first half, but in the second half the Tigers were able to loosen them up and move the ball much better. Missouris defense was not able to contain the athletes that the Tide have.

Mizzou was able to recover on on-side kick

"We got beat by one of the best teams in the country, there's no shame in that. I thought we had a real good chance to win the game, and we might have if we had tackled better in the game. We missed a lot of tackles and that cost us. So we will go back to work on that on Monday, and hopefully we will improve. With that said, I am still proud of this team, and we have to put this one behind us and move on." Cam Jackson said after the game.

                        Missouri Upsets Mississippi State

Mizzous defense was great all day

Missouri went on the road to play their first away game of the season, and it happened to be at #20 Mississippi State. The Tigers were big underdogs coming into the game, but they played like the favorite coming out on top of the Bulldogs 25-21. The Tigers offense rolled along again, led by their top 2 players, freshman quarterback Scott Hill and halfback Larry Galloway. Hill threw for 250 yards and 3 more scores, while Galloway again went over 100 yards rushing. Wide receiver Doug Underwood also had a great game catching 9 passes for 121 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

                        Hill finds Underwood for 6
                        Photobucket">

The defense played a really good game holding the Bulldogs to just 246 yards of offense and just 49 yards passing. They put pressure on the Mississippi State QB all day and held him to just 6 completions. The Bulldogs did run the ball pretty good, gaining close to 200 yards rushing, but 89 of them came on 1 play. The Tigers were able to intercept 3 passes today, including 2 by one of their backup linebackers. Both of those came in the 4th quarter and the last one sealed the win for Mizzou.

                        1 of their 3 INTs

Cam Jackson said, "We played really well today and our defense stepped up big time at the end of the game. We were able to control the tempo of the game and we never really allowed them to get going on offense. If we can play like that every week we will have a great season." We'll see if the Tigers can keep up their good play, but they have a bye week first before their next game.
