      Re: The Cam Jackson Story

Things were going great for Cam Jackson. He was enjoying his job as an offensive coordinator and was looking forward to next season. Coming off a season that ended with a win in the Independence Bowl, Cam thought that should help the recruiting efforts in the future. As the off season started the recruiting really started. Cam was beginning to like the days on the road, talking to parents and the kids he was trying to get to come to Syracuse to play football.

Cam was shocked to find out that he was very well known around the country now, as he received countless job offers from other schools. Although he received many, many offers he was not really tempted to go anywhere else. Until.....he got a call from Oregon State. The Athletic Director there said that Cam was their number one choice to be the new offensive coordinator. The AD asked if Cam was interested in the position and Cam said he was. So he had flown out west and had an interview for the job. In the end though Oregon State had offered someone else the spot.

Although Cam had interviewed for the position, he does not know if he would have accepted it. So he was kind of glad to not have to make that decision. In the end he was happy to stay in Syracuse, after all they were coming off their best season in the 3 years he had been there, and the future was looking good for the Orange. So he started preparing for season number 4.

              Syracuse 45 Virginia 31

2014 has gotten off to a great start for the Orange as they traveled to Virginia and piked up the win 45-31. Syracuse is starting a redshirt freshmen QB in Kevin Tate this year, and he started his career off on the right foot. He only completed 50% of his passes, but he totaled 203 yards and 3 touchdowns, and didn't turn the ball over. One thing that is gonna help Tate out is that the Orange has a very good group of receivers, it also helps that he has experience in the backfield.

The defense remains the big question again. Can they improve from last year when they were one of the worst defenses in the country. In this game they gave up over 500 yards of total offense, and most of that came on the ground. The offenses dominated this game, and Syracuse was able to make enough plays on defense to win.

Fullback Waylon Washington with a touchdown reception.

              Photobucket">

Doug Marrone said that he was pleased at his teams effort and that Kevin Tate did a great job at managing the game for their offense. He also went on to say that the defense needs to get tougher, especially against the run. "We just gave up to many big runs, and we need to fix that. Other then that we did a great job." We'll see if they can get their run defense together as the team heads home to face North Carolina this week.

                Syracuse 2-0

The Syracuse Orange improve their record to 2-0 with a 22 point 4th quarter to beat North Carolina 39-35. Syracuse trailed 28-17 entering the final 15 minutes of the game. Early in the 4th quarter Kevin Tate threw a long touchdown pass to Geoffrey East, and with the 2 point conversion it cut the UNC lead to 28-25. The Tar Heels then bounced right back getting a touchdown of their own stretching the lead back to 10. Syracuse was then able to punch the ball into the end zone 2 more times to take the lead. With just under 2 minutes to go the Orange stopped the Tar Heels, got the ball back and then they were able to run out the clock.

The SU defense only gave up 52 yards passing the whole game, but they gave up 378 rushing. Here in the first 2 games of the season the Orange defense is struggling to stop the run. If the Orange can get their run defense working, then this team can be very dangerous.

Max Beaulieu stops a screen pass for a loss.

                Photobucket">

Trey Byers spins out of a tackle and scores the first of his 2 touchdowns.

                Photobucket

Trey Byers breaking off his 2nd touchdown run, this one would put the Orange ahead for good.

                Photobucket">

"We did a great job of coming back there in the 4th quarter, but our defense needs to stop the run better. We are giving up way to many big runs. As far as the offense goes, what can I say they just keep being good." Those were just some of the comments made by Doug Marrone after the game. He is right on about the defense, they need to find a way to stop the run. They will try to get it right this week as the Orange travel to Florida to take on the Florida State Seminoles.

                  FSU Dominates SU Again

In a game that Syracuse went into at 2-0, and thought they had a good chance of winning, they were totally dominated. Florida State just would not let the Orange have any chance. The 1st quarter went pretty good for the Orange leading 3-0 entering the 2nd quarter, but then the Seminoles took over, scoring 44 unanswered points. For the first time this season QB Kevin Tate looked like the freshmen that he is throwing 3 interceptions. The SU running game was held to just 62 yards, and they only gained 261 total yards in the game.

On the other side off the ball, the defense did look better against the run, but still gave up 180 yards on the ground. The defense played pretty well until the second half, thats when the Seminoles really started to get going. By the 4th quarter it was all but over. One bright spot in the defense was the young DT Sean Martin, he recorded 2 sacks and looks like he might be a very good player for this team.

"We got our asses kicked, plain and simple. What else is there to say? We sucked! We were not ready to play today, and that's my fault and the other coaches fault. We are suppose to have these kids ready to play and we didn't do our job. We gave up in the 4th quarter and quit playing. I promise you this team will be ready next week, and they won't quit ever again or the ones playing won't be." Those were the words of head coach Doug Marrone after Syracuse was crushed by Florida State. We'll see how it goes next week against North Carolina State.

                    Syracuse Dominates!

For the first time ever the Syracuse Orange are 3-1 in the ACC and are sitting on top of their division. They got there with a dominating win over the North Carolina State Wolfpack 63-10. NCSU came in the favorites ranked #22 in the country, but Syracuse was not intimidated at all, controlling the game from the start. SU held the Wolfpack to just 208 yards of offense, while gaining 449 yards themselves. The Orange defense was all over the N.C.State offense all day, not allowing them to get out and run the ball at all.

Mean while for the offense, they were led by Trey Byers, now the #1 guy at HB for the Orange, as he ran for 129 yards and 3 touchdowns. Travis Pendleton also went over 100 yards rushing with a total of 122 yards. The Orange ran the ball pretty much at will in this game, along with doing just about anything else they wanted to do. The Orange had 7 rushing touchdowns in this game by 5 different people.

Trey Byers seen here following is blocker to his 3rd touchdown of the day.

Head coach Doug Marrone had this to say after the game "We played as good as I have ever seen us play, but... I still think we can play better." I think every coach feels that way know matter how good their team plays or how much their team wins by. This is know doubt the best game we have seen them play in 4 years. Lets hope they can keep this good play going as they travel to Boston College next week.

did he get fired after the big win? Was it a scandal? I have been following the Cam Jackson Story and I am left with no ending?

                          Syracuse Improves To 4-1

Syracuse continues with their hot start to the season as they beat the Boston College Eagles 17-16. It was a hard fought game, but the Orange were able to hold on. Even though the Eagles were able to rack up more offensive yards then the Orange, SU was still able to come back in the second half to win. The Orange offense has been led this season by their redshirt freshmen QB Kevin Tate. He continues to play good football throwing for 277 yards and 2 touchdowns. Although he only completed 15-36 passes he still led the team to the win.

Geoffrey East in the endzone after catching a touchdown pass from Kevin Tate.

Chris Toth making a catch for 6 points.

Shutang Mungwa knocks down an Eagles pass attempt.

Head coach Doug Marrone did not comment after the game today, but offensive coordinator Cam Jackson made a quick statement. "We did not play a great game, but we played a good game, and we found a way to win. At the end that is what matters, winning." Syracuse's next game is at home against Clemson as they try to keep winning football games.

                            Clemson Crushes The Orange

The Clemson Tigers came into the Carrier Dome today and just ran right over the top of the Syracuse Orange. The Orange struggled all day to hold on to the ball and they ended up turning it over 4 times, and the Tigers were able to capitalize on all those turnovers and get easy scores on short fields. Syracuse was able to out gain the Tigers offense all day, but those turnovers just killed them in the end.

One bright spot for the Orange was the play of redshirt freshmen quarterback Kevin Tate. He continues to play well, even though his completion percentage his not very high. Also halfback Trey Byers continues to be the number 1 back for the Orange gaining another 78 yards on the ground today.

Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone had nothing but good things to say about the Clemson football team after the game. "The Tigers played a great game and just kicked our butts all day today. We turned the ball over several times and they did a great job of taking advantage of that. We got some more work to do and it starts at the next practice."

                              Roberts Runs Wild On Syracuse

Syracuse went down to West Virginia with hopes of a big win, but their hopes quickly disappeared as the Mountaineers just went off. West Virginias senior halfback went wild, running for 3 touchdowns, including runs of 96 yards and 98 yards. By the end of the day he had a total of 325 rushing yards. The Syracuse defense was just unable to put a stop to the Moutaineer running game.

As for the Orange offense, well they didn't have their best game either. 2 long touchdown passes by Kevin Tate, and a long touchdown run accounted for most of the SU offense on this day. The West Virginia defense was able to dominate the Orange offense all day. Leading rusher Trey Byers was hurt late in the 1st half and did not return, but he is expected to play next week.

QB Kevin Tate shrugs off a defender.

After the game I was not able to catch up with head coach Doug Marrone, but I did catch up with offensive coordinator Cam Jackson. "We were out played today, plain and simple. They dominated us all day. The offense has not been real sharp the last couple of weeks, and that needs to change, we have to start playing better." We will see how the Orange respond with a game against Maryland next week.

Late TD Lifts SU To Victory

Syracuse returned home this weekend with a 2 game losing streak in tow. When the weekend was over , so was the losing streak. Syracuse was able to defeat the Maryland Terrapins 34-31. SU QB Kevin Tate hit WR Chris Toth for a touchdown with just over 1 minute to play for the win. Toth ended up with 2 touchdowns on the day, and Tate threw for 298 yards and 3 scores total. Kevin Tate also completed 25-30 passes on the day, but he also was sacked 5 times in the game. With the win SU has a 5-3 record, they need 1 more to become Bowl eligible.

The Maryland offense was able to move the ball very well at times. They broke 3 or 4 long runs in the game, either they ended in a score a led to one a couple plays later. Maryland would end up with over 200 yards rushing. Their defense did not do a good job of stopping the Orange all day. Syracuse was able to do whatever they wanted pretty much. Maryland really needed the win, but with the lost they dropped to 3-5, and will have to win 3 of their last 4 games if they want a shot at a Bowl game.

Kevin Tate finds Chris Toth wide open for 6.

Geoffrey East with a great catch for 6 points.

Shutang Mungwa reads the option perfectly and takes it away.

Head coach Doug Marrone was very excited about the results of the game. "What a way to win a game! Last minute touchdown pass, making a big interception on defense to seal the win. WOW what a great finish! Coach Jackson called a great game, and he made the best call when we needed it the most.
