Bates leads Army on a 9-0 run to begin the game before Keister tips in a rebound to stop the run. Brown and Bates both hit jumpers then Simmons sinks a jumper. Bell puts in a 3-pter and after Cunningham banks in a jumper, the Black Knights are off to a ten point lead, 16-6, with 15:00 remaining. After a jumper by Bell, Clifford banks in a jumper and starts a 12-0 Holy Cross run, led by Simmons. After Simmons slams home a dunk on a fast break, the game is tied, 18-18, with 9:30 left. Brown hits a 3-pter then Clifford puts in a hook shot and Simmons sinks a 3-pter to give the Crusaders the lead. Bell puts in two layups in leading Army on a 6-2 run as the Black Knights now lead by two, 27-25, with 5:00 to go. The teams trade two points as Thompson puts in a short jumper from the paint and Dixon sinks two free throws. The teams trade baskets then Thompson hits 1 of 2 free throws and Simmons hits a jumper with less than ten seconds to play as Army is up by one at the half. Holy Cross's Simmons leads all scorers with 17 points and Bell leads Army with 9.

Simmons continues to stay hot and he leads Holy Cross on a 9-3 run. Bates stops the run with a layup as the Crusaders now lead by 16, 64-48 with just under 5:00 left. The teams trade 3-pters then Holy Cross finishes the game with an 8-2 run to blow out the Black Knights.
