      2/28/07 - Patriot League Quarterfinals: Navy @ Army

      Late Bombs Advance Army, 70-61

      First Half
      Bell sinks two free throws for Army then Johnson hits a jumper to start Navy on an 8-0 run. A hook shot by Bates and a layup by Brown cuts the Midshipmen's lead down to two, 8-6, with 15:00 remaining. Kina puts in a jumper and a layup before Sinning stops the run with a 3-pointer. Sprink and Brown trade 3-pointers then Kina hits a 3-pointer and a jumper to put Navy up by eight, 20-12, halfway through the first half. After Brown hits a 3-pointer, the teams trade baskets then Johnson slams home a dunk on a fast break. Kina sinks a 3-pointer and Bates puts in a short runner as the Midshipmen lead by eight, 27-19, with less than 5:00 left. A jumper by Bell starts the Black Knights on a 7-2 run before Young hits a short turnaround jumper to stop the run. Brown and Teague trade 3-pointers then Brown puts in a layup. After Stanton and Brown trade 3-pointers inside of a minute to go, Army pulls to within a bucket at the half. Army's Brown leads all scorers with 22 points and Kina leads Navy with 14.
      Navy 35, Army 33

      Second Half

      Sprink hits three 3-pointers during Navy's 9-2 run to begin the second half. Bates and Bell put in layups and Bates sinks a fallaway jumper as Army cuts the Midshipmen's lead down to three, 44-41, with 15:00 remaining. The teams trade a few baskets and after Sprink sinks a turnaround jumper, Navy is up by three, 50-47, midway through the second half. The teams trade baskets then Teague put in a layup. After Brown hits a 3-pointer, Kina puts in a runner and Bell drills a 3-pointer to put the Black Knights to within one, 56-55, with 5:00 left. Army takes the lead on a turnaround jumper by Bates and a layup by Sinning. Sprink hits a 3-pointer to tie the game and Carter sinks a 3-pointer to retake the lead before Kina pulls the Midshipmen to within one with a jumper. Bates and Brown hit clutch 3-pointers to pull the Black Knights away and Bates ices the game with a tip in with ten seconds to go.

      Army will host Lafayette in the semifinal round of the Patriot League tournament.

          First Half
          Sewell puts in a put back and Bell sinks a fallaway jumper then Abdullah banks in a jumper to stop the run. After the teams trade baskets, Brown and Bell hit jumpers before Abdullah puts in a layup to cut the Army lead to four, 10-6, with 15:00 remaining. Sinning puts in a layup and Abdullah sinks a 3-pointer then the teams trade baskets. After Abdullah hits a 3-pointer to tie the game, the Black Knights get jumpers from Sinning and Sewell plus a layup from Brown to give them a six point lead, 20-14, halfway through the first half. The teams trade baskets then Betley puts in a layup. Bell sinks a 3-pointer and a layup to push the Army lead to nine, 27-18, with 5:00 left. Brown puts in a layup and Bell sinks two free throws to continue the run before Cummins hits a 3-pointer and Gruner puts in a layup to stop it. After the teams trade baskets, Kolton sinks a hook shot at the buzzer to cut the Black Knights' lead to six at the half. Army's Bell leads all scorers with 15 points and Abdullah leads the Leopards with 10.
          Army 33, Lafayette 27

          Second Half

          Abdullah sinks two jumpers to start the half then Army goes on a 7-0 run led by Brown. A put back by Schmidt stops the run and cuts the Black Knights' lead to seven, 40-38, with 15:00 remaining. Bell puts in a layup and Brown sinks a jumper then Harley hits a 3-pointer and Detmer buries a hook shot to stop the run. After Brown nails a 3-pointer, Army now leads by nine, 47-38, midway through the second half. The teams trade a couple of baskets then Brown and Gruner trade 3-pointers. After Brown puts in a layup, the Black Knights are in front by eleven, 56-45, with 5:00 left. Hilliard puts in a layup then Army pulls away as Bates and Brown lead them on an 11-2 run to close the game.

          Army will now host the Holy Cross Crusaders in the finals of the Patriot League tournament for the automatic bid to the "Big Dance".

                  Holy Cross Blows Away Army's Hopes, 69-47

                  First Half
                  Simmons hits a 3-pointer then the teams trade a couple of baskets. After two layups on fast breaks by Thomas, Holy Cross leads by seven, 11-4, with less than 15:00 remaining. Both teams struggle offensively. After Zastoupil hits a short turnaround jumper and Brown sinks 1 of 2 free throws, Cunningham and Thomas both put in jumpers to give the Crusaders an eight point lead, 15-7, halfway through the first half. After Simmons puts in a layup and Thompson hits a 3-pointer, Holy Cross goes on an 8-0 run to push their lead up to 15, 25-10, with less than 5:00 left. The teams are trading basket for basket and after Keister tips in a rebound, the Crusaders go into halftime leading by 14. Holy Cross's Simmons leads all scorers with 11 points and Bell leads Army with 9.
                  Holy Cross 33, Army 19

                  Second Half

                  Brown hits a 3-pointer and Clifford puts in a layup then Bates sinks a pair of free throws. After Cunningham's hook shot and Brown's 3-pointer, Keister tips in a rebound and Simmons puts in a layup. Brown's third 3-pointer of the second half cuts the Holy Cross lead down to 11, 41-30, with just under 15:00 remaining. A jumper by Simmons starts the Crusaders on a 12-0 run to blow open the game. Cunningham caps the run with a 3-pointer to send Holy Cross up by 23, 53-30, midway through the second half. The teams are going basket for basket then after Zastoupil puts in a hook shot, May sinks a jumper as the Crusaders are in command, leading by 26, 65-39, with 4:00 left. After Brown hits a 3-pointer and Meister puts in a runner, the Black Knights go on a 5-2 run to end the game and the season.
