Re: aukevin's MLB 2007 The Show Career mode updates
From the blog of Peter Gammons: According to sources close to Bottoms, he thought it was Cialis, as his trophy wife had two demands if he wanted to keep her: Finish the season with a batting average over .400, and get on the purple pills to up his "other" batting average. Unfortunately, going to Bonds for advice on what purple pills worked best resulted in...well, not Cialis. "I got a better kind of purple pill," sources tell me Bonds said. "It's the kind of Cialis that you inject, and also the kind that you rub in, like a cream. Your performance will never droop again. You'll be out-sizing everyone in no time." Rumor has it that a new Cialis owned club in Japan, the Master Batters, has petitioned the Braves in hopes that Atlanta will post the star second baseman. The club has gone on record as saying they would bid as much as 62 million to acquire the services of the pill-popping All-Star, though the Master Batters front office has denied any alleged contact with the Braves. Attempts to contact Master Batters GM Andy Wineriss, who got extremely annoyed when I asked him who the winner is, were unfruitful. Without the services of a translator at our disposal, Wineriss was only able to muster one short phrase: "Uh...Domo....Arigato...Uh...Mister....Roboto...No Speak....English...Sayanara." Jayson Stark will have a full interview with GM Andy Wineriss, through a translator, tomorrow. Until then, all we have is rumors, speculation, and an unhappy trophy wife.Comment

Re: aukevin's MLB 2007 The Show Career mode updates
Here are my statistics through the first half of the 2011 season. My average isn't as high as it has been the last couple years, but there is no way to keep that high of a average. I've been a little more patient at the plate this year and have already surpassed my career high number of walks in a season with a whopping 8!I've been striking out a little more this year than I have since my first couple years, hopefully I can keep those down the second half. I'm still mainly a lead off guy, which I really like, but coach has been putting me in the 3 and 4 spot in the lineup when guys like Chipper and Andruw get the day off.
I don't know if you guys were watching the All-Star game this year, but I batted clean up! It was a lot of pressure and something I didn't expect. I made the most of it though with a 2-run homerun. Too bad we couldn't get the win though. I'm now 2 for 7 in my 3 All-Star game appearances.
Anyways, here's my stats for the year so far:
#13 - Kevin Bottoms - Second Base - 2011 Statistics through July 14th
Year Team G AB AVG H R 2B 3B HR RBI SB BB K Fld %
RISP 2011 ATL 82 326 .346 110 55 11 5 29 66 32 8 36 .992
.393

The 2011 season for the Braves ended last night. It all came down to the final series of the year against the Mets. Here's an article on the series and a 2011 season wrap-up:

When is Bottoms going to finally get off the juice? Hopefully all the steroids don't cause him to have a major heart attack or worse cause major shrinkage.Comment

Chipper is taking the year off? Did he have a season ending injury and will be out the whole year?Comment

Re: aukevin's MLB 2007 The Show Career mode updates
He's just old. I think he is 39 now in my game. What I've noticed happening to some of the older players is that they don't get resigned once their current contract expires (which is what Chipper's case is). They seem to sit in the FA pool all the next year and then retire the next year with the reason of a weak free agent pool. He had a great last season for the Braves, and actually I hope he does retire after this season, I don't want him playing for another team.

Re: aukevin's MLB 2007 The Show Career mode updates
Just letting you know my career is still going on. There was a bit of a mandatory media blackout among players in the Players Union due to corrupt media persons trying to put a black eye on the sport. But that has all been taking care of now.
It's June 2013 now, my 7th year in the league, and we're holding onto a very slim 1.5 game lead in our division over the Mets. It's been a good season so far as we are 48-25 as we defend our 2nd World Series title in 3 years. Due to the media blackout, you guys might not have gotten the scoop on the 2012 World Series where we beat the Angels in 6 games. It was a great series. The team hasn't changed much, Chipper Jones officially retired and remained on staff as our batting coach. Shea Hillenbrand signed with us this year and is our everyday 1B and doing a great job. Everything else is about the same. I'm batting 3rd in the lineup with Andruw and Sheffield behind me. Eric Bruntlett is still at SS turning some awesome double plays. JD Drew and Brian McCann continue to get on base for me to help boost my RBI numbers. Our pitching has been a bit shaky this year as our team ERA is in the bottom 3 of the league, but with a rotation of Hudson, Zito, Weaver, and James, you know things can turn around at any time.
Anyways, I'm writing you guys now because I am having a great year, and what I've been told is that it could possibly be one of the best years in modern, or all-time, baseball history. I'm on-pace to break three single season records. The single season HR, stolen bases, and RBI records are in my sights, but there is so much time left in the season, I don't see much being made of it yet. But here's what they are projecting right now:
Through 73 games this season I have 36 HR, that puts me on track for around 80 at year's end which will surpass Barry Bonds' 73 set in 2001. I came close to breaking it last year, finishing the season with 68 HR, we'll see what happens this year.
I also have 60 stolen bases thus far in 2013, my pace for that is 133 which will surpass Ricky Henderson's modern-era record of 130 from 1982. Last year I ended with 105 stolen bases and I felt that was a crazy amount. I would be shocked if I reach 130.
As for RBI, I currently have 93 which puts me on pace for 206, 15 higher than the record of 191 set by Hack Wilson in 1930.
Well, I'll try to keep you up-to-date as the season goes on, but we still haven't even reached the All-Star Break yet, so it is still a little early to get caught up too much in these chases. The main chase we are worried about is the NL East which is turning out to be a very very close one.
