        Houston, TX
        • Texas Southern shot 70% in the first half, often pushing the ball into the post to build up a 29-point lead at the half. Leading scorer Sollie Norwood scored all 21 of his points in the first half.
        • TSU used a similar defensive strategy against JSU star Hilton Tompkins as earlier in the season, namely man-to-man double team defense with Jacques Jones matched up against him. Tompkins was much more effective in this game, though, scoring 20 points and going 9/15 from the field.
        • TSU turned off their traditional transitional defense to focus more on rebounding in this game. The Tigers won the rebounding battle 39-24.
        • TSU announced that senior PG Dominique White will not be available for Monday's Senior Day game against Alabama State. Coach Lewis is hopeful to see White back in time for the SWAC tourney, though.

It looks like with the 135 RPI that you might still have to win the SWAC tournament to get in. It's rare when the NCAA committee takes more than one from a small conference.

I think you are right. Last year, TSU had a better RPI and ended up in the NIT after dropping the first game of the SWAC tourney.

                Houston, TX -

In a surprise announcement, TSU has announced that senior PG Dominique White will play in tonight's Senior Day game. "Obviously, this is White's last chance to perform before the home crowd. There have been mixed signals from the medical staff over the last few days regarding his availability, but everyone has agreed this morning that he is ready to play. Getting him back in the lineup early will help the team prepare better for next week's conference tourney as well." - coach Lewis.

                  Houston, TX -
                  • Difference in the Game -> Alabama State had nearly twice as many fouls as Texas Southern, 19-10, leading to TSU winning the game from their advantage in free throws made, 25 - 11.
                  • The biggest concern for TSU has to be the 32.9% fg%, led by M. Kovacevik shooting 22.7% and 0/11 from beyond the 3-pt line. Shooting difficulties led to TSU's early departure from the SWAC tourney last year.
                  • Dominique White looked good in his return, playing 23 minutes in all. He scored 4 points and had 5 assists. He also showed no ill effects from the high ankle sprain that has sidelined him for the last few weeks.
                  • Once again, TSU tried the same defensive strategy as earlier in the season, using a double team on ASU star Andrew Hayles throughout the game. Hayles handled the pressure well this game, shooting 20 points and 60% from the field.
                  • TSU continued to place a heavier emphasis on rebounding and less on their traditional transition defense. "I feel that we need to be able to handle teams that aren't pushing the fast break on every play, as is customary in the SWAC. Maybe we could have handled teams like MVSU better had we compromised a little on this emphasis." - Coach Lewis.
                  • Texas Southern finished their home season with a perfect record (9-0, 13-0). "The increased fan support we received over last season has made a tremendous difference for our team this year."
                  Alabama State Hornets

                      • Texas Southern earned their 20th victory of the season, one more than all of last season. "20 wins is a nice hurdle to get over, but our primary goal is winning the conference tourney, which is still four games away." - Coach Lewis
                      • Mohammed Kovacevik responded from his cold shooting in the last game by draining his first 3-pt attempt 10 seconds into this game. In all, Kovacevik led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 50% from the field.
                      • TSU's double-team defense against Grambling star Andre Ratliff, as Ratliff shot only 25% from the field.
                      • As happened earlier in the season, the game was decided by ft efficiency as TSU went 23/25 from the charity stripe while Grambling went 15/28 in free throw efficiency.
