      Houston, TX -
      • With 11:57 to go in the first half, Prairie View backup SG Ivory McGilvery drained a 3-pt basket to put the Panthers in front 19-7. This would be the last point scored by the Panthers for the next nine minutes. "Going from a 19-7 deficit to a 35-19 lead, 28 straight points, outstanding! We work harder on defense than any other aspect of the game in practice. This is where our hard work pays off, in a big way. Just outstanding" - Coach Lewis.
      • Texas Southern announced the rivalry game was a sell-out, the first sellout during Lewis' tenure with the team.
      • TSU starting PG Dominique White left the game in the first half with a high ankle sprain. "The injury is serious and White will be out at least four weeks. Hopefully, he'll come back before the end of the season." - Lewis.
      • The Closers preserved TSU's 14-pt lead to ensure the 10-pt rule was in place for the fifth time this season.
      Prairie View Panthers
      A. Genoa - 16 pts, 5 reb, 6/11 fg
      K. Williams - 12 pts, 2 reb, 4 ast, 2 stl, 5/9 fg, 2/2 3pt

Re: The Coaching Career of Marc Lewis (ch2k7-360)

Houston, TX - The Texas Southern Tigers have announced the activation of freshman PG Kent Spooner from his redshirt status, filling the void left by Dominque White's recent ankle injury. Because of the late activation, Spooner will lose the ability to be redshirted in future seasons as well, leaving only 3 1/2 years of service time remaining in his collegiate career. Coach Lewis did the same thing a year ago, activating Bobby Jones in the middle of his redshirt season. Given Jones' rapid development this season, the early playing experience gained last year may not have been so bad.

Even more surprising in this case was coach Lewis' decision to start the freshman in Monday's game again UAPB. "I believe Kent has the intelligence and the skills to succeed here" - coach Lewis. The pressure will definitely on Spooner as the Tigers look to maintain their current division lead with him at the helm.

            • Kent Spooner had an impressive debut as the Tigers' starting PG, shooting 10 pts (3/8 fg, 1/3 3pt, 3/3 ft). Spooner led the team with 24 minutes played as well.
            • TSU's zone defense seemed ineffective against UAPB, as the Golden Lions connected on 8 of 16 3pt shots.
            • 10-pt rule in effect for sixth game this season. The only exception was the use of Spooner in the last six minutes to build up the experience level for the true freshman.

                Lorman, MS -
                • Both starting centers, R. McGowan of Alcorn State and M. Bell of Texas Southern, left the first half after two minutes of action due to early foul trouble. Texas Southern was whistled for a foul on each of Alcorn State's first three trips down the floor. "I take responsibility for this. I wanted the team to play with a tighter defense, but the refs were calling the game too closely." - coach Lewis.
                • Alcorn State dominated the boards once again, at the expense of any semblance of a transition defense. This allowed TSU to outscore the Braves 10-4 in fast break points in the first half.
                • Game was much closer than final score indicates. Coach Lewis' 10-pt rule was not in effect at any point of the game.
                • Freshman PG Kent Spooner responded in pressure, connecting on 5/6 free throws in the final 30 seconds of the game.
                Texas Southern Tigers

Pro wrestlers Hawk and Animal would be proud of you. Your team seems to be "Road Warriors" too.

Good luck and continue to clothesline the competition in the SWAC.

                        • Not quite as long as the 9-minute, 28-point streak against Prairie View, but TSU held the UC-Davis Aggies scoreless for seven straight minutes in the first half. This time the Tigers converted an 18-10 deficiit into an 30-18 lead.
                        • The Aggies shut down Tiger center, Matthew Bell, who went 0/6 from the field, scoring only two free throws in the game. Without any inside scoring threat, the TSU Tigers attempted 24 3pt shots (making only 5) in response to UC-Davis' 2-3 zone defenses.
                        • Last second 3pt attempt by UC-Davis starting SF Shane Hanson bounced harmlessly off the rim, as the TSU Tigers held on for the win.

The Road Warriors, Hawk and Animal, were a very famous, and possibly the greatest, tag team in professional wrestling from the 1980's thru today, although the person who was the professional wrestler known as Hawk, passed away a couple of years ago. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_Warriors

I had referred to your team as being road warriors for their ability to win consistantly on the road.
