I have found that Ginger Ale helps me with an upset stomach. Maybe this team is giving you an ulser.

          Houston, TX -
          • Despite Alcorn State playing predominately 2-3 zone defenses throughout the game, the TSU Tigers still worked on scoring inside, attempting only 11 3-pt shots for the entire game.
          • Alcorn State shut down TSU's interior defense effectively. TSU center Matthew Bell went 1 for 8 from the field.
          • Defensively, the Tigers played man-to-man defense initially to limit J. Thompson's 3-pt effectiveness. Once Thompson drew two early fouls, the Tigers switched to zone defenses. Alcorn State SF Philip Horton took advantage, draining three quick 3-pt shots. Just as the Tigers switched back to man-to-man, Horton drew his second foul in the first half and went to the bench.
          • With both Horton and Thompson on the bench, the Tigers' zone defense worked. This allowed TSU to make their only scoring run in the game, building up an 8-pt lead. This would turn out to be the largest lead of the game for either side.
          Alcorn State Braves
          P. Horton - 10 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast, 4/8 fg, 3/5 3pt
          R. Chestang - 9 pts, 7 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl

          Texas Southern Tigers
          M. Kovacevic - 16 pts, 2 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl, 6/11 fg, 2/6 3pt
          M. Drewy - 8 pts, 10 reb, 1 ast, 2 stl, 3/6

          Attendance - 4, 575 (7,500 capacity)

                    Houston, TX -
                    • Nearly "perfect" first half saw the TSU Tigers shooting 63% from the field to open a 32-point lead at the break. M. Kovacevic led all scorers at the half with 17 pts.
                    • The TSU defense stayed in their "switching" zone defense, despite Southern shooting well (respectively) from beyond the arc. Southern's 3pt success was lead by starting SF J. Ingram (3/6 3pt) and starting SG J. Holladay (2/3 3pt).
                    • 10-pt rule in affect for second game of the season for TSU Tigers as no starter played more than 18 minutes (18-min halves)
                    • Most of Texas Southern's 10 turnovers occurred in the second half, allowing Southern the opportunity to cut into their large deficit. "I know the temptation is to lose focus on the fundamentals with such a comfortable lead. The player who can show the mental toughness to maintain their composure with a large lead is going to see more playing time, starter or reserve, senior or freshman." - Coach Lewis

                        Jackson, MS -
                        • Both teams came out red-hot, each team shooting over 80% from the field over the first twelve minutes of the game. Key to the high percentages was the ability of both teams to penetrate inside offensively.
                        • Man-to-man defense and double-team tactics against JSU starting SF Hilton Thompson kept his personal fg % to 25% (4/16 from the field). Thompson still led the team in scoring, though, due to shooting 8/9 in free throws.
                        • Jackson State starting C Stanley Turner played only 10 minutes due to foul trouble.
                        • 10-pt rule triggered for the third time this season. All of TSU's starters left the game with a 12-point lead and nine minutes to go in the game. The reserves built up the TSU lead to 21 points in the final minutes of the game.

With your terrific success at TSU, especially as you slice through the SWAC like soft butter, are there any rumors flying around campus about coach Lewis possibly leaving?
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in english, thank a soldier.

The rumors are starting, especially since there will only be one year remaining on his current contract after this season is over. Will TSU renew the contract? If not, will Lewis move on?

Insiders are saying that Lewis is concerned that it took so long to receive any acknowlegements regarding his job security from the TSU administration. It also is taking a long time to attract fans for TSU's home games. At this pace, there's no telling if TSU will have a sell-out in one of their remaining five home games. One could hardly blame Lewis for moving on to a more supportive environment.......

                                • TSU's tough man-to-man, double-team defense neutralized Alabama State's top scorer, Andrew Hayles. Hayles went 4/17 from the field and 0/5 from beyond the 3pt line, scoring only 10 points in the game.
                                • Alabama State's driving offense led to TSU being whistled for 18 fouls (compared to ASU's 8). Fortunately for the Tigers, the Hornets only shot 59% (20/34) from the charity stripe. Backup Hornet senior PF, Joel Bosh, may need the most practice shooting free throws (1pt, 2 reb, 0/2 fg, 1/6 ft, 11 min)
                                • TSU's second team may start calling themselves the Closers. With nine minutes remaining in the game, the Closers made their customary appearance, spelling the TSU starters. The Closers promptly broke open what was a tight game throughout, stretching the lead to 20 points, invoking Coach Lewis' 10-pt rule for the fourth time this season. "They came into the game and played with as much, if not more, poise as our first team all night. It could be tough for an opponent that's fighting fatigue to compete against the Closers as well. Again, our reserves are getting more minutes than the starters lately." grinned coach Lewis.
                                • Mohammed Kovacevic sprained his ankle in the first half, but came back to see limited action in the second half. His status for Saturday's game against Prairie View will be a game day decision.
