    Coach's Notes
    • The best defensive effort of the year. It got so bad for the Governors, that the Boo-Birds made quite a few appearances. It was music to our ears. You know we are blowing out an opponent when a big man, who we run no plays for, is the leading scorer of the game.
    • Next up is Kentucky. They are ranked #9 in the nation. I don't know how it's not better than that.

      Coach's Notes
      • Before I start let me give you an idea of what we were up against: Randolph Morris, First Team All-Conference. Ebi Ngounou, 4th ranked recruit overall, second at his position. Byron Israel, 6th ranked recruit overall, 3rd at his position. Joe Crawford, one of the most explosive SGs in the nation. And 6'6" Point Guard Derrick Jasper. Not to mention the fact that they're all freakishly tall.
      • That being said, we didn't do too bad! Thanks to the gritty play of Romain Martin, the score at one point was 48-50 Kentucky thanks to a 15-2 run. We had two opportunities to either tie it or take the lead after that, but I think reality set in and from that point on it was all Kentucky, but at least we made it interesting for 29 minutes. A dead silent Kentucky crowd is a sight to behold.
      • Romain Martin came out and played super-agressive, making contact with the defender on almost every shot. He went 15-17 at the free-throw line and put Joe Crawford in foul trouble.
      • After a failed man to man experiment, we switched to 3-2 Zone and it was working!...Until they realized their big men were at least 3 inches taller than our big men. They pounded and pounded inside but there was no way I was going to switch to 2-3 Zone.
      • Ebi Ngounou was surprisingly ineffective tonight.

        Coach's Notes
        • I've really gotta hand it to the Racers, they dug in and stayed with us for as long as they could. Their 1-3-1 Zone defense, which we have all sorts of problems with, really gave me and my players a head ache.
        • The reason we won the game was because of Jerrold Harmon and Ousmane Cisse. It didn't matter that we were down by as many as 7 midway through the first half, Harmon kept a level head and was absolutely fearless on the court. He was 6/8 from three point range, hitting most of them to keep us right at MSU when they had the lead for a while early in the game. Ousmane and Schachtner battled all game long. Though it looked like Cisse was losing the battle early, being rejected twice in a row, he bounced back and kept fighting. He had 5 offensive rebounds and finished with 14 points.
        • MSU did a really good job breaking our press until the last ten minutes of the game, when we pulled away huge. If you only watched the first 3/4 of the game, you wouldn't believe the final score.

          Coach's Notes
          • A very sloppy game.
          • The subs played almost all of the second half.
          • Catchings has earned himself way more playing time than he's getting. Very very solid performances the last two games. Tonight he had 15 points in 15 minutes and was 4/8 from beyond the arc.

            Coach's Notes
            • We were pretty lucky to get away with a win here. Samford really did their homework on us. They used 1-3-1 Match-up Zone almost exclusively and I've already made it clear how much trouble we have against that defense. They also used a 3-2 Zone, which up to this point we have seen very little of. They slowed the pace of the game way, way, way down, were patient on offense, broke our press almost the entire game, and didn't panic when our press worked on them. We shot out to an early 25-13 lead and the score stayed that way for a good 6 minutes. They got as close as 5 points when it was 47-42 in the second half, but that is as close as they got.
            • Jerrold Harmon hit a 45 footer at the halftime buzzer, and Romain Martin hit a three at the end game buzzer. Those six points were huge, no matter when they happened in the game.
            • Savoy Fraine is going to be one heck of a player in the next two years. He is the one player besides Frey who gave us absolute fits the entire game.
            • Julio Anthony had an off night, but it was offset by Mike Robinson, who had more scoring opportunities going against the 1-3-1.

                Coach's Notes
                • We did not deserve to win this game. I am all for the three ball, but when nearly 2/3 of our shots are from beyond the arc, that is unacceptable. They wouldn't run plays, just jack up the ball from anywhere. I was very disappointed with my team tonight. All but two of the shots Julio Anthony took were three pointers.

                  Coach's Notes
                  • Romain Martin hit a three with 39 seconds to go to take a 77-73 lead to preserve an overall well played game by both teams. UTM used a 13-4 run to tie it at 71 late in the game. They pounded it inside with Robbins and he was a very effective weapon.
                  • Julio Anthony has really been struggling these last three games. His confidence is still very high though, so I am glad he is not giving up and trying to work through his struggles. In the meantime, Romain Martin is back to his old self.

                    Coach's Notes
                    • What a game this was! Morehead really did a number on us in the first half. They jumped out to a 13-4 lead and scored the first 10 points of the game. We clawed our way back to tie it on the last possession of the first half, but it wasn't easy as our field goal percentage was horrible. Brandon Callahan had 10 of the Eagles 36 points in the first half on 4-5 shooting.
                    • Romain Martin came alive in the second half, scoring a team record 29 of his 36 points in the period. This was a blessing, as Julio Anthony is still struggling to put the ball in the basket, and Jerrold Harmon is in my doghouse for jacking up too many threes(1-9 tonight). As a starter Harmon only played 15 minutes.
                    • Despite Julio Anthony's struggles, he hit and was fouled on a crucial momentum swinging three point attempt very late in the second half. He was also 7-7 from the foul line.
                    • Morhead State had a chance to win the game. The score was tied 77-77 and Morehead had the ball. They let the clock run down to 5 seconds, then Penick threw an errant pass to Pandov for the turnover. Robinson hit both free throws, Morhead threw and errant inbounds pass, Robinson hit two more free throws, then stole the next inbounds pass to let time run out.
                    • This win put us at #25 in the Media Poll. I don't know if we deserve it, as there are plenty of better teams out there, but our record is what it is.

It looks like the Big East is just loaded with powerhouse teams, and the ACC is barely on the map. DePaul's debut at #13 is an odd one. They did upset #3 Louisville, but that was four games ago. Why they weren't brought into the top 25 then is anyone's guess.

Author's Note: If anyone wants to know how any teams are doing I will give an update for you. I'll also give a heads up when any big news happens, like big injuries, recruit signings, or big upsets. I'd like for this to be a little more interactive.

                        Coach's Notes
                        • Wow, these guys are really good! They had total control of the pace throughout almost all of the first half. They were up by as much as 17 points when it was 27-10. We went on a patented Panther End Of First Half 20-2 run to take our first lead with 2:32 left in the half. The run continued until we lead by as many as 20 points, but with Ousmane Cisse in foul trouble, they came storming back with the help of Brandon Faust(14 pts, 9 rbs) and Johnny Hill(22 pts, 3 rb). Paul Paradoski also caused havoc, shooting the ball very efficiently at .500(7-14, 3-8).
                        • Because he is still struggling from beyond the arc(4-12), Julio Anthony has been taking it to the basket more and getting fouled a lot. This is good because he is an excellent free throw shooter(12-12 tonight).
                        • Jerrold Harmon poked his head out of my doghouse tonight, with a very solid all around game. 17 points, 3 rebounds, .500 FG%.
                        • Cartier Murphy had a career high in points tonight with 10.
                        • The win over the Redhawks wasn't enough to keep us in the Media Poll, but we did move up a spot in the Mid-Major Poll to number 3. George Mason, #2 in the Mid-Major Poll, lost by 21 to James Madison and by 8 to 8-10 UNC Wilmington, but still managed to take the #25 spot from us. I don't know either.

Well that sucks..i guess it's better to be under the radar though..everytime i get into the top 25 with a small team I get beat right there after and go into a cold spell..but good luck the rest of the season and hopefully you'll make a run to the Big Dance!!

It looks like you are doing a tremendous job. It's not easy for a small school to get anywhere near the top 25 in the country.

                            Keep up the great work.

No, that's ok. This isn't dead, by the way. I have two games to post and am about to play a third. Coach McGurk had a little something called 'car trouble' that kept him away from the internet for a while.
