    Spread Eagle
Through the air and on the ground, Ducks gut Wolverines

ANN ARBOR, MI - It's no secret that Michigan's defense has always struggled against spread offenses led by mobile quarterbacks.

Well, the nation's best spread offense just blew through Ann Arbor, and left the Wolverines eating their dust.

The Ducks racked up over 600 yards of offense, and Dennis Dixon threw four first half touchdowns in a 55-14 laugher over #2 Michigan, who will freefall in the polls now.

The victory should also elevate the Ducks into the Top 25.

Oregon pulled the starters after the 3rd quarter ended, and even then, had to take the foot off the gas. At one point midway through the 4th, backup QB Brady Leaf took a knee on four straight snaps inside the 10 yard line, as Mike Bellotti made the decision to not humilate the Wolverines anymore than they already had.

In addition to Dixon completed 72% of his passes for 257 yards and the four scores, the Ducks pounded out 288 rushing yards, led by Jonathan Stewart's 155. Dixon added 79, Jeremiah Johnson 42, and Andre Crenshaw 20.

The Ducks' receivers were much improved, as Brian Paysinger, Cameron Colvin, and Jaison Williams all caught at least five passes each. Paysinger and Colvin caught two touchdowns apiece, and Williams had 100 yards receiving.

        Bitter, party of 1?

You did your best to get virtual Lloyd Carr fired, didn't you?

How are you handling the VERY limited uniform options? Playing as Oregon that would tick me off.

Haha, I think there's actually more options on the PS2, which is what I'm stuck on. For home there's Green/Green, Black/Black and Yellow/Yellow, and away there's White/White and White/Green. Not nearly as many options as there actually are for the Ducks, but it's acceptable.

Definitely more options on the PS2 then, I think Oregon has 2 uniforms on the 360.

                  Ducks show no mercy
Snubbed by the polls, Oregon has Fresno State beaten by halftime

EUGENE, OR - Although they've been taught to never say it aloud, secretly, several players for Oregon were angry that their team failed to crack the Top 25 after last week's dismantling of #2 Michigan.

So they decided to make an even bigger statement.

Dennis Dixon, Jonathan Stewart and the rest of the first team offense spent the second half on the sidelines - a well-deserved break, as they rolled up 56 points and 500 yards in the first half. The backups took it from there, and in some cases the backups' backups. In the end, the Ducks had 752 total yards of offense, and a 73-20 win over Fresno State.

"We were a little upset that we weren't ranked, but instead of letting that get us down, it just motivated us to come out and play even better," Dixon said afterwards. The senior QB had his best game yet, throwing for 359 yards and 3 touchdowns, and rushing for 121 and another score.

Jonathan Stewart scored a career-high 4 touchdowns on the ground, and accumulated 118 yards on just 11 carries. Jeremiah Johnson added a TD and 49 yards on 10 carries, and 3rd-stringer Andre Crenshaw had 48 and a TD.

While Brian Paysinger and Cameron Colvin both went over 100 yards receiving, it was Derrick Jones (twice) and Jaison Williams that found the endzone.

The Ducks also forced six turnovers on defense. They appear to be hitting stride just in time, as it's all Pac-10 games from here on out, starting at Stanford next week.

                        Ducks escape Cardinal
Ducks' D is shredded, but turnovers keep Stanford at bay for Dixon's winning drive

STANFORD, CA - Well, this certainly isn't the way to impress the voters.

Oregon's defense missed the trip to Stanford on Saturday. Or at least it looked that way. They forced five turnovers, but still gave up almost 600 yards of offense. It was because of those turnovers though, that they never trailed, and after Jonathan Stewart's 50 yard kickoff return, Dennis Dixon took it from there, leading the Ducks 26 yards in 4 plays, setting up Matt Evensen for the game-winning 43 yard field goal as time expired, giving the Ducks an exhausting 31-28 win.

Dixon completed 16 of 29 passes on the day for 285 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also ran for 106 yards (to lead the team) and 2 more. Stanford did a good job containing Stewart - on the ground anyway. He only had 63 rushing yards, but in addition to his clutch kickoff return, he caught a 79 yard touchdown pass on a wheel route.

Aside from the butchery on defense, Jairus Byrd stood out well, with 3 interceptions.

The defense picked a bad time to go in the tank, as California comes to Autzen next week, anchored by their explosive offense.

                            Dixon carries Ducks past Bears
Clutch plays by QB and defense help Oregon upset California

EUGENE, OR - Before the season started, everyone knew that in order for the Oregon Ducks to contend for the Pac-10 title, they would have to take care of all the big games at home.

That first big game is out of the way.

Cal dominated Oregon's defense to the tune of 545 yards, but the Ducks forced five turnovers - many at truly clutch times - and Dennis Dixon's arm did the rest in a 37-28 Ducks win.

The Bears marched down the field with ease on the opening drive of the game, capping it with a DeSean Jackson touchdown catch on 4th and goal. The Ducks went 3 and out, sputtering on the ground. They would find that their #1 ranked rushing attack would not have any holes all day long, netting just 68 yards. So Chip Kelly adjusted the gameplan, and although the Ducks made their fans nervous by settling for field goals frequently, Dixon made the plays when it counted, at one point connecting on 20 of 22 passes. For the game, he completed 29 of 41 for 395 yards and 3 touchdowns, the last of which came with 1:55 to go to seal the victory.

The turning point came early in the 4th though. Oregon had just taken a 23-21 lead, but Cal was primed to strike back. Nate Longshore hit Jackson way downfield for a 40 yard gain, but Ducks Rover Patrick Chung stripped DeSean of the football at the 20 yard line, and Walter Thurmond returned it to midfield. Four plays later, Dixon hit tight end Ed Dickson in the endzone to give Oregon breathing room at 30-21. Chung was a monster throughout the game, registering a team high 9 tackles, intercepting Longshore twice, and forcing two fumbles.

The Ducks have a bye week to recover from the emotional high of this game before taking on Washington State.
