Someday I hope that Syracuse can get back to the way they were in the 90's...or hell, just give teams a run for their money instead of getting blown out every week.

Yeah, they're pretty terrible. They gave me a run for my money in this game, though. I thought I might lose when it was 17-17 halfway through the 3rd quarter. Luckily, we finally got our offense going and pulled away for the easy win.

Slaton-less Mountaineers Escape With 2OT Win Versus Bulldogs!
Slaton goes down in 2nd quarter, Mountaineers Struggle

Morgantown, WV - When Steve Slaton went down with a pinched nerve, Mountaineer fans sensed a need for concern. West Virginia was up 10-0, but there was definietely need for concern. West Virginia had a 17-6 halftime lead and a 17-9 lead after 3 quarters. West Virginia would go up 24-9 early in the 4th quarter, then the defense feel apart, allowing 22 4th quarter points to the Bulldogs. Pat White led a Heisman-esque drive down the field with seconds remaining to score the tying touchdown to send the game to overtime.

In overtime, both teams cored touchdowns in the first overtime. Mississippi State got the ball first in the second overtime, but was held to a field goal. West Virginia got the ball and scored the winning touchdown off a 7 yard pass from Pat White to Dorrell Jalloh. "It feels great to win," Coach Rodriguez said. "But we should play better than this. It was a very disappointing performance." And that about sums it up.

Steve Slaton will be back next week to play against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

West Virginia improves to 7-0 (2-0) on the year and completes non-conference play with a perfect 5-0 record.

                        Mountaineers Defeat Rutgers!
Mountaineers totally control the game as they win by 14

Piscataway, NJ - West Virginia played its third conference game of the season and by far its toughest test in the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The Mountaineers jumped out to a 14-0 lead and cruised from there as they would win by 14 as well. "We played a nice game of football, executed offensively and defensively, and came away with the win," stated Rodriguez. This game showed good things for the Mountaineers who have been struggling lately, playing 5 overtime periods in the previous three games. "It was nice not to have to go to overtime in this one and finally win one in regulation," Pat White said jokingly in a postgame interview.

Morgantown, WV - The Mountaineers' national title hopes effectively went up in flames this Thursday night as the undefeated Louisville Cardinals defeated West Virginia in Morgantown. West Virginia only allowed 387 yards of offense to Louisville, but they got them when the counted and converted them into 42 points. The Mountaineers lead comfortabily at the half. Louisville coach Steve Kraglethorpe got Louisville going in the locker room as he got Louisville to outscored the Mountaineers 35-10 in the 2nd half to come back for the win. "This win is especially tough because lead by a large margin in the 1st half," explained Mountaineer fullback Owen Schmitt. "Unfortunately, our defense...and our offense fell apart in the 2nd half." Schmitt, a senior, probably lost all chances at winning a National Championship in his collegiac career, but the NFL-bound fullback may get a chance at a superbowl in the NFL in his future.

West Virginia falls to 8-1 (3-1).
