My thoughts on the 2009 Torney Selection:

1) F**k Duke. How they got a #1 seed is beyond me. Yes, they were #1 for a while but they finished 2nd in the ACC behind me and got bounced 1 rd after we (Wake) did. We had a legitimate shot at a #1 because we won the regular season and had the #2 RPI. We were 27-5 compared to Dukes 24-6 on selection sunday.

2) Who was the idiot who put us in the same bracket with 4 teams we already played (Miami FL, West Va, NC ST, Pitt) including a possible 2nd round matchup with an ACC team (Miami FL). There is a scenario where we could play all of those teams en route to the Final 4.

3) Overall I like my teams chances in advancing far. The only legit big men are on the top half of the bracket (NC ST-JJ Hickson, Ariz-Jordan Hill). A potential sweet 16 matchup with Baylor would be exciting. They play run & gun, full court press all game long.

4) Clark Kellogg mentioned in the selection show that we are a legit pick to make the Final 4. He also said how BC faded down the torney resulting in them missing the big dance.

5) Out of all the brackets I think mine is the weakest amongst the top 4 seeds. I think the 3 & 4 seeds are pretty beatable (Baylor & Texas - no DJ Augustine)

A down year for the SEC and Kansas misses out on the big dance.

Interesting 1st round matchups:

Indiana vs So Ill- The Salukis are tough and have some NCAA experience.
Cal vs Butler- Cal has Ryan Anderson. Butler has a solid team with 3 straight yrs of NCAA torney experience.
Tex A&M vs Ohio St- 2 teams from power conferences going head to head early.
Washington vs Ga Tech- Ga Tech is senior laden and would love a chance at #2 Cuse in the 2nd round.
Illinois vs Pitt- Pitt was #6 early in the yr but struggled in BE play. Illinois is pretty young.

Possible 2nd round matchups:

UNC vs Gtown- Wawaweewa. 2 yrs ago the Hoyas upset UNC, payback?
Duke vs Kentucky- 2 powerhouses going at it early. Thomas Hill to Laetner all over again?
Cal vs Ariz St- Pac 10 foes collide in the 2nd round. Season series was tied at 1-1.
NC ST vs Texas- Can Sidney Lowe's crew take down Texas in their own back yard?

Great dynasty thread! I hope you keep it going, its nice to see how a fellow human controlled ACC team is going to fair. Your template that you and Stew use is really nice. Perhaps next year when I start up a new one I can get that from you and follow suit as I think it looks impressive.

Thanks man. I was originally running with Cal but I accidentally deleted that legacy file so I chose Wake and I love it. I live in ACC country but as you can see I'm a Hoya. Props to stew on the template. You would have had a nice following with the #s Butch puts up. Hell, you a good following in the CH forum.

Examining the Schedule

OOC- BRUTAL this year. Games @ Arizona(#11), @Kentucky(#12), @ Tenn(#13), @ Nova(#10), not to mention non-traditional good programs like Utah & UNLV will be tough. We will be truly tested this year come tournament time.
ACC Play- We only play Clemson, UNC & Duke once a piece so we have a good chance to rack up wins vs the other ACC teams.

Prediction:

2009-2010 Wake Forest Demon Deacons Basketball Preview

Wake Forest Demon Deacons - ACC
2008-09: 31-5, 14-2, 1st
2008-09 postseason: Final Four loss (Louisville)

Wake Forest really suprised alot of people this year by not only winning the ACC regular season, but advancing to the Final 4 before being ousted by eventual national champion Louisville. Wake started the same lineup for every game but 2. The 1 highlights that stand out were a 15pt beating of then #2 and undefeated Duke in Cameron & the Elite 8 win over ACC rival NC State. The low point was being ousted in the 2nd round of the ACC torney by Clemson.

Wake Forest.

Wake Forest had a relatively quiet recruiting off-season. They brought in the nation's #12 SF in Zam Dilligard and a 4* SG in Jermiah Moss. Both will add depth but will have to battle for minutes. Ty Walker is also coming off his redshirt year and looks to provide Wake with a 3 headed monster at Center. Both Dilligard & Moss are great 3pt shooters and should be able to contribute when they get time. Right now they will battling SG Gary Clark and SF LD Williams for PT.

Who to Watch:

The "3 Headed Monster" all return from successful seasons. Johnson was named All-ACC 2nd team after posting 16pts & 7rebs a game. Teague was steady leading the Deacons in assists (3.7) while scoring 12.8pts a game. All Aminu did was lead the Deacons in scoring at a shade under 17 (16.6), grab 4 rebs and make the Freshman All American team as well as the All-ACC Frosh team. He was beat out for Freshman of the Year by Iman Shumpert but he should be a lock to make one of the All-ACC teams this year. While no single player will put up huge #'s, together they form the top trio in the ACC.
