That's going to take a bit of time to get for ya so I'll get that info posted for you after the bowl season, if that's cool.

                BUSINESS TRIP
Cyclones edge Illini in 2016 Insight Bowl 38-31.

TEMPE, Arizona-- It wasn’t the BCS National Championship game, which was the destination for the upstart Iowa State Cyclones last season, but Iowa State (9-4) still exemplified the same type of effort.

Lead by a powerful running game and a precise passing game the Iowa State Cyclones edged the Big 10’s Illinois Fighting Illini 38-31 in Thursday night’s 28th annual Insight Bowl.

“We didn’t come here to lose,” said Coach Mitchell as he hoisted up the game trophy. “We treated this as a business trip not a vacation, ending the season with a win goes a long way in recruiting and momentum towards the next season.”

Iowa State senior quarterback Jeremy Allen completed 14-of-15 passes for 201 yards and at one point connected on 14-straight passes before a knockdown by sophomore DT George Wright on Allen’s final pass attempt of the evening.

“It would have been cool to go 100 percent,” said Allen. “But we won and that’s all that really matters.”

Tied up at 21 with under a minute to go in the first half FB Mark Jennings rammed his way into the end zone for his second touchdown of the game giving the Cyclones a 7-point advantage heading into half time. That touchdown which was set up by a highlight reel type of catch and run by HB Jamie McCoy was the deciding touchdown in Iowa State’s second-consecutive bowl win, a feat which has never been accomplished by the Cyclones in their 124 year history.

Illinois (6-7) did their best to make things interesting in the latter part of the fourth quarter scoring on a 22-yard touchdown catch by red shirt freshman WR Matt McPhearson pulling the Illini to within 7 points which set up the all exciting onside kick attempt, Unfortunately, a finger tip grab by WR Corey Webb squashed all hope for the Illini to get the ball back and attempt a last minute drive.

The tandem backfield of McCoy and Miller combined to rush for 183 yards on 37 attempts and 2 touchdowns.

McCoy also caught 6 passes for 113 yards, returned 5 total kicks for 126 yards add that to his 65 rushing yards and McCoy finished the evening with 304 all-purpose yards which was more than enough to earn him game MVP honors.

“Oh, he’s done more than live up to the expectations everyone had for him coming out of high school,” said Mitchell. “And I can’t wait to where he’ll be skill wise in the next two years now that he has a full season of collegiate ball under his belt.”

The 2016 Insight Bowl was only the seventh meeting between Iowa State and Illinois in each schools history, the previous six times Illinois got the better of the Cyclones posting a 3-1-2 record.

                            HIT AND MISS

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State signs five 3-star prospects including Illinois native T Ryan Jordan, who largely went through the recruiting process with only two serious suitors, Iowa State and Illinois, but Coach Mitchell’s fourth recruiting class in Ames falls short of expectations.

“We had eight blue chippers on the board prior to beginning the 2016 campaign, even though my mandated recruiting restrictions were only going to allow us to sign five, since this was only my fourth class at Iowa State, but they all slipped through our clutches,” said Coach Mitchell. “We went after all eight of them extremely hard even though only four were seriously considering Iowa State as a potential destination but in the end all eight decided Iowa State wasn’t for them, it sucks but we’ll be fine…we still signed some very talented players that fell just short of blue chip status.”

Among those that Coach Mitchell was talking about is 3-star QB Shawn Young out of Montgomery, Ohio. Young was the 35th ranked QB and was highly sought after by Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame. His 90 rated throwing power and 79 rated accuracy right out of high school should put him atop the list of candidates to be the Cyclones signal caller after his red shirt season.

The Cyclones also signed 3-star prospect SS Terry Jones out of Bellwood, Illinois. Jones was a prospect that Coach Mitchell desperately wanted with the less than stellar play of junior David George last season.

“George looked confused last season, he missed tons of tackles, blew coverage’s, and looked slow, I knew we needed someone in here that could help that position out…I believe Jones can be that guy,” said Mitchell.

Worth Noting: Iowa State’s top five position ranks.
                            8th – FB O.J. Hollis
                            15th – SS Terry Jones
                            17th – T Ryan Jordan
                            35th – QB Shawn Young
                            35th – CB Mike Motley

Dark Horse: Player to watch out for a few years down the road.
