Re: 11 Hits spark Dodger offense

The Dodgers in their final game of the road trip before heading home for Opening Day, won another close 3-2 vs the Padres. Brown (1-0) gave another great performance by allowing 1 unearned run in 7innings. Ward, playing for the tired Jordan, lifted the Dodger to a 2 run lead with a homer in the 1st inning. LoDuca drove in the other run with a single in 6th to score Ward who had doubled two pitches earlier. manager O’Neil stated after the game. Rocker came in to pitch the eighth and gave up a long ball to Buchanan. “It was a miserable pitch right over the plate and with the velocity I bring, the ball just needs to find the bat in order for it to go over the wall. I won’t let that happen again!!” Rocker said in typical Rocker fashion. San Diego was able to do a whole lot at the plate. They never really got anything together to put more runs on the board. The Dodgers are heading home to host Arizona in a three game series before heading to San Francisco.

    Dodgers – 3 11 1
    Padres – 2 10 0

    W:Brown (1-0)
    L:Eaton (0-2)
    S:Gagne (3)

    HR:Ward (1), Buchanan (2)
    E:Thurston (1)

Post update: I will now be posting by series. Look for more posts in days to come!! Thanks

Glad to see Ishii pitched well for you. I am a big Ishii supporter. Gagne is also a mad man when it comes to closing games. Tell me what you think of Ward. I did a franchise in WSB where he was my best pinch hitter. He batted like .425 in a 162 game season and hit like 19 HR pinch hitting. I loved hitting with him.
        Hometown Teams I LOVE H-TOWN

        Houston Texans
        Houston Astros
        Houston Rockets
        Houston Cougars
        Houston Dynamo

Re: 11 Hits spark Dodger offense

I had originally played up to the all-star game in a previous season, but then if froze and wouldn't let me get past the all-star game. At that point, Ward was doing awesome. He had a .300+ BA with 12HR and was playing 3-4 times a week. Jordan was injured for a while and he got a lot of playing time during that span. Ishii was doing awful and was demoted to the bullpen. He had an ERA over 5 and was giving up too many homers. But the biggest surprise was Hundley. I dislike Hundley so much, but LoDuca went down for 80days with some injury and Hundley had to step it up. He was batting over .280 with 15 HR and over 50RBI. I couldn't believe it.
I was totally disappointed when I had to start over, but the setting I am playing with now are harder and makes the game a bit more challenging. I also made some trades that makes the team a little better in the long run.

                First Dodger Home-stand

The Dodgers started off the home-stand to the delight of few. They were defeated 2 out of 3 by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dodgers offense is still struggling as they scored only 11 runs in the 3 game set. Spivey had a great series for the D-backs. In game two of the series, Spivey went deep twice off Ishii to spark a 5-4 win for the D-backs. The real only bright spot for the Dodgers was their pitching, once again, as the pitching staff still has yet to give up over 5 runs in one game. “It’s not surprising our pitching is doing so well. The real shocker is that we can’t hit the ball with any consistency. We may have 11 hits in a game, but 8-9 of those hits are singles and we have a problem advancing runners,” managers O’Neil said as the ball club arrived in San Francisco to meet the Giants for a 4 game set.
The Dodgers seem to have been living and dying by their sluggers Green, Jordan and LoDuca. Combined the have 2 HR and 12 RBI. LoDuca is the only one with a AVE over .200. The Dodgers are hoping the team slump will end as they play the defending National League champs this weekend. They are only 1.5 back of the 1st place Arizona and .5 game back of the Giants.

Note – Forgot to keep track of stats for all 3 games. In future, will have a run down of all games in a series. Stay tuned!!

                    Game 1 –
Perez (2-1) pitched 9 innings of shutout ball as the Dodgers defeated Jensen (0-1) and the Giants 4-0. Perez faced only 28 batters and allowed only 4 hits, 2 of which came in the 9th. “I was really hoping they would let me finish the game out tonight,” Perez said after the game. “I know it’s still early in the season, but when you can pitch a shutout, on the road, in San Francisco, it means a lot.” The Dodgers also got some much needed offensive support from struggling Shawn Green. Green went 2-4 with a homerun and 2 RBI. “It was the first time I felt comformtable in a game all season long. I knew the drought would end soon enough and I would get my bat going.” Green’s homerun ball traveled 482 feet to right center. “It was a no doubt about homerun” according to Brain Jordan who was waiting in the on deck circle. “Once I saw him hit the ball, we all knew it was outta here. It’s good to see Green swinging a good bat again.” The Dodger will try to build on this win as they play game 2 of the 4 game series tomorrow night.

                    Dodgers – 4 8 0
                    Giants – 0 4 1

                    W:Perez (2-1) 1.24 ERA
                    L:Jensen (0-1) 2.25

                        Rocker gets rocked...

                        Game 2 –
The Dodgers, looking to improve on their mini 2 game winning streak, gave the ball to Kevin Brown (1-0). Brown pitched strong for 7 innings allowing 4 runs, while going 2-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs. The real fun came for the Dodgers in the bottom of the 8th when John Rocker came in to hold down the fort for Eric Gagne. Rocker gave up 5 runs on 7 hits in 2/3 of a inning. Galarraga hit a three run homer to put the Giants up for good 7-5. Said a discouraged Rocker, “I thought I could overpower everyone with my fastball, but obviously that was not the case. I got destroyed tonight and would be surprised if I still had a uniform tomorrow morning. I know the Dodger took a chance on me this year, and so far I have let them down tremendously.” Rockers ERA is a ridiculous 9.00. Barry Bonds had a great game at the plate going 4-5 with a triple, double and an RBI. Jason Schmidt pitched for the Giants and allowed all 5 run and was not in the final decision. So it took 12 games for the Dodgers bullpen to finally give up a significant amount of runs, but I am sure they will bounce back and play great ball tomorrow. As for the bats, the Dodgers rang smashed out 13 hits including a solo homer from Shawn Green, his second in two days. “The ball just hung up over the plate,” Green said after the loss, “and I was able to extend my hands and drive the ball.” Hopefully the Dodgers can come back tomorrow afternoon and pitch a little better.

                        Dodgers – 5 13 0
                        Giants – 9 18 0

                        W:Worrell(2-1)
                        L:Rocker(1-1)

                        HR:Green(2), Galarraga(2)

                            Another 1 run game

                            Game 3 –
The Dodgers came back from a disappointing loss last night to beat the SF Giants 5-4. The majority of the Dodgers games this year have been 1 run games. They got a great performance from K. Wood as he pitched 7 innings and gave up only 3 runs. The 3 runs came off the bat of Barry Bonds as he pinch hit in the 4th inning. “That was the only bad pitch I made all day,” Wood said. “I thought the rest of the pitches I made were right where I wanted them.” The Dodger offense looks to be picking it up a bit, but without the help of Shawn Green. Just when it looks like he is coming out of his slump, he strikes out a couple more times. Green, uncharacteristically, was unavailable for comment after the game. The Dodger finish the road trip tomorrow for game 4 vs the Giants.

                            Dodgers – 5 14 0
                            Giants – 4 12 0
