Game 1 vs Pirates
The Dodgers come into Pittsburg taking 2 of 3 from the Reds and start Ishii (2-2, 2.61) against Kris Benson (3-1, 3.29). It was close game throughout, but the Dodger gave up 2 more homers; one to Eric Hinske (traded for Jason Kendall earlier this year) and Mackowiak. Ishii gave a great performance going 7 innings allowing 3 runs on 10 hits and striking out 12. The Dodgers gave up the 4th run in the bottom of the 8th when the Pirates pulled off a double steal and stole home.
LA – 2 6 0
PIT – 4 12 0
W:Benson(3-1, 3.29)
L:Ishii(2-2, 2.61)
S:Williams(7, 0.00)

Game 2 vs Pirates
The Dodgers were able to avenge their loss last night by defeating the Pirates 5-2 on timely hitting coming from Todd Hundley. With the game tied in the top 9th, Hundley came up with 2 on and hit a 3-run home run over the center field fence at PNC Park to give LA a 5-2 lead and eventually the win. “I have been struggling so far this year because of the lack of at-bats. But tonight, the ball luckily hit my bat and it went out of the park,” Hundley said sarcastically. It was Hundley’s first HR of the season and hopefully not his last.
Darren Dreifort pitched 6 innings, allowing 2 run on 6 hits and striking out 6, but did not pick up the decision. The only runs given up were on home runs by Eric Hinkse and Brian Giles. Daryl Ward, still playing for the injured Jordan, almost hit another home run today, but the ball hit off the top of the wall for a double. It was the second time in 3 games that Ward was about a foot from hitting a home run.
John Rocker got some PT today pitching the 8th inning allowing 1 hit and striking out the side. “I knew my stuff would start to come together sooner or later. I wish it was earlier, but our team seems to be clicking and out bullpen seems invincible,” Rocker sounded rather confident even though is ERA is 6.35. Gagne pitched the 9th for his 8th save in as many tries.
LA – 5 8 0
PIT – 2 9 1
W:Rocker(2-2, 6.35)
L:Karnes(2-2, 4.26)
S:Gagne(8, 2.89)
HR:Hundley(1), Hinske(6), Giles(9)

just a lot of potenial, but if FOX wants to pay that to him, good for him. He showed how dominate he CAN be, but it only shines every once in a while. Before Gagne, I thought they should turn him into a closer. I guess it's hard to justify $55 million for a closer!!!Comment

Game 3 vs Reds...10 innings
In the final game of the 6 game road trip, the Dodgers defeated the Pirate 4-3 in 10 innings. The Dodgers did not generate much offense until the top of the 7th when Paul LoDuca and Fred McGriff hit back to back jacks to tie the game 3-3 going into the bottom of the 7th inning. Odalis Perez was on the hill for the Dodgers and picked up his 4th victory of the season throwing 9 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits and striking out 11. The Dodgers scored the 4th run in the top of the 10th when Thurston singled to right off Mike Williams, promptly stole second and scored on the single by Green. It was the first time Williams had allowed a run all season and his first loss of the year. Gagne came in to shut the door once again and recorded his 9th save.
LA will travel back home to host the Phils for 4 and then the same Pirates for 3 before hitting their fist East Coast swing of the year. With the win, the Dodgers remain 1.5 games back of the Colorado Rockies in the NL West.

Game 1 vs Phillies
Kirk Saarloos gets his first nod of the season against proven winner Kevin Millwood and the Philadelphia Phillies at Dodger Stadium. Saarloss pitched 6 strong innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits (2 homers) and 0 K’s. “It’s exciting to get to start in a Dodgers uniform. I thought I pitched okay, not great by any means, but I gave the team a chance to win and we did. I think that all a pitcher can do is give the team a chance at winning, and our pitchers are doing that this year,” Saarloos said after his first start in LA. The HR allowed accounted for all of the Phillies runs off the bats of Jim Thome and Bobby Abreau. Millwood was cruising until the 6th inning, allowing only a home run to McGriff in 2nd, when he allowed back to back singles to Roberts and Thurston and then served a “fat-one” to Green who hit a no-doubter to the right field pavilion to give the Dodgers the lead for good.“Millwood was pitching great today. He had 10 strikeouts before I got a hold of his pitch to hit a home run,” Green said after the game. “Kevin is a great pitcher, but we got the best of him today.” Millwood went 5.1 innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and striking out 10. “Game Over” himself, Eric Gagne came in to pitch a perfect 9th for his 10th save of the year!
PHI – 3 8 0
LA – 4 7 0

L:Millwood(1-2, 3.72)
