    Game 2 vs Giants

The Dodgers looking to improve on last nights victory, sent Ishii(2-1, 2.25) to the mound against the surprizing Moss(1-2, 0.96). Ishii pitched a great 6 innings allowing only 4 hits and 0 runs for the 2-0 win. Moss pitched great as well going 7 inning allowing 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 6. The only run he allowed was a sacrifice fly to Ward who hit a deep fly to center to score Thurston from 3rd. “I thought I pitched well, but we weren’t able to get any hits tonight off Ishii. He pitched great and gave the Dodgers a chance to win and they did,” Moss said after the defeat. Bonds, after going 5-5 last night, had runners on the corners in the top of the 6th and grounded into a 6-4-3 DP to end the inning and the threat. The Giants came close to scoring in the 8th with 1 out and Bernard on third. Alfonzo hit a fly ball to Roberts in center and the little center-fielder throw a bullet to LoDuca at home to nail Bernard who was tagging up.

The Dodgers scored their other run in the bottom of the 8th with a double steal that scored Roberts from 3rd. Thurston, on first, took off for second and Santiago came up throwing to second, allowing Roberts to sneak in at home. “It was tricky play, but when you play the Giants, you have to pull out all the stops,” Thurston said after the game. “It was fun and I would hope to do again before the year is over.” Gagne closed the game in the 9th for his 6th save in as many chances.

        Game 3 vs Giants

On throwback day at Dodger Staduim, the Dodgers lost to the Giants 3-2 in an old fashioned pitchers duel. The Dodgers were sporting their 1913 road uniforms (which look white) and the Giants wore their 1906 home uniforms (looked grayish). Jensen(2-1, 3.13) pitched a decent 5 innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits and striking out 9 for the win. Dreifort(1-2, 2.13) pitched a good game as well going 7.3 allowing 3 runs on 10 hits and striking out 5. Green, in a horrible slump to begin the season, went 2-4 with a HR and both RBI today. “It was nice to hit the ball today, I just wish I was clicking with the rest of the team. We seem to be out of sync so far this year, but it will come around; I guarantee it!” Rocker came in the 9th at got out of a 1 out corners filled with Giants and struck out both Snow and Santiago to get out of the jam. Nen came into the top of the 9th to close it out, but the Dodger loaded the bases with Green and Ward coming up with only one out. They only needed a single from either player and the game would have been over, but they both struck out to end the game. The Dodgers are having a horrible time hitting with runners in scoring position. The Dodger will be on the road taking on the Red and Pirates.

            Game 1 vs Reds

The Dodgers, happy to be finished with the NL West of the time being, flew into Cincinnati for a 3 game set against the Reds. The Dodgers sent Perez to mound and he pitched a decent game going 6innings allowing 4 runs on 13 hits but was not in the final decision. He was roughed up in the first 2 innings with hits in the gap and timely hitting by the Reds. Both Dunn and Lopez went 4-5 for the Reds. All four runs allowed by Perez in the first 2 innings and he was replaced by Saarloos(1-0, 1.08) who pitched the 7th and 8th allowing no runs and picking up his first victory of the year. Gabe White was handed the ball in the 7th inning and allowed a 2 run homer to Shawn Green which proved to be the game winner. “He hung a slider and I was able to get my hands extended and drive the ball over the wall.” Green went 4-5, HR, 2B with 2RBI and raised his average to .233 after hovering around the Medoza line for most the first few weeks. The Dodgers finally got some timely hitting from their offense as they put up 12 hits tonight. McGriff also added a 2 run homer for his 3rd of the year. Gagne came in for the 9th and struck out the side for the 1st time this year. “I was just pumped to see us come back from a 4 run deficit and be leading the game in the 9th. I wanted to shut these guys out! I think this is the first time this season we played together as a team and hopefully we will continue to get better and better,” Gagne said after the save.

                    Update

Hey guys. Sorry about the delay of posts. I have about 9 games to post, but midterms are kicking my butt. I still have 3 weeks left of school (I know it sucks, but quarters are the only way to go), but I promise to be up to date with my post in the next few days (at least by Monday). I will start to include pitch counts after I post those 9 games (I haven't kept track at all). I will also give the half inning recap of every score in the game. Thanks to all who have commented on how to make this a better post and thanks to all those who have read my posts. Keep doing so and let me know ways to improve it. Peace

                        Game 2 vs Reds

The Dodgers sent Kevin Brown (1-2, 4.81) to the mound tonight to pitch against Danny Graves (3-1, 4.68) and the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds got to Brown early in the bottom of the first by scoring 4 runs on 4 hits including a 3-run homer by Adam Dunn. “We just saw the ball well today. Every pitch seemed to be right down the middle,” Dunn said after the game. “I just pitched awful today. I just kept trying to throw harder and harder and my shoulder gave out and now I am on the DL,” Brown said, referring to the fact he separated his pitching shoulder in the bottom of the 6th and was placed on the 15 day DL. The Dodgers will call up 19 year old pitching phenom Juan Cruz; he will be placed in the bullpen and Kevin Saarloos will take Brown’s spot in the rotation. Cruz will take a flight from Las Vegas and met the team tomorrow in time for batting practice.

The game itself was pretty much a blow out with the Reds hitting 3 homer from Branyan, LaRue and Dunn, mentioned earlier, while Graves pitched 5.1 solid innings allowing 2 runs, 6 hits while striking out 6. The Dodgers will send Kerry Wood to the mound as they try to take the series against the Reds.

                            Game 3 vs Reds...Ward Homers 3 times!!!

In the final game of the 3 game set against the Reds, the Dodgers got a huge boost from Daryl Ward as he punched 3 home runs to give the Dodgers a 13-6 victory. The Dodger knocked 17 hits against 7 Cincinnati pitchers including starting pitcher Ryan Dempster who was tossed in the 3rd after hitting Joe Thurston with a pitch. It didn’t appear to be a retaliation pitch, but Thurston, still just a rookie, exchanged some words with Dempster and they started to get into it. “Punk rookie came after me like I threw at him intentionally,” Dempster cried after the game. “He is only a rookie and hasn’t proven himself at all. He has no reason to open his mouth.” Strong words coming from a player who is, in the eyes of the public, still just a kid. Thurston was not available for comment after the game.

Back to Ward and his three homers. Ward hit all 3 of his homers in a row and almost hit a fourth in the 7th when his ball hit off the top of the right field wall as Ward strolled in for a double. All in all, he finished the day 4-5, 3HR, 2B, 6RBI. McGriff homered for the second straight game and Green went 2-5, 2B, 2RBI and raised his average to .245. Every Dodger starter scored a run. Felix Heredia came into pitch after Dempster was tossed and gave up 6 runs in 2 innings to suffer the loss. Kerry Wood (3-1, 4.25) pitched a great 8.2 innings, 6 runs on 8 hits and struck out 15. Rookie Cruz was able to come in a pitch the final .33 of the inning to get his first shot at the major leagues. His fastball was clocked at 98mph. We look forward to seeing his progress and if this kid is as good as he is touted to be.

A sad note for the Reds; Dunn is out with a herniated disk, but he managed to hit a homer before he went down. The Dodgers move on to Pittsburg to face the Pirates for a 3 game set before heading home to face the Phillies.
