    Re: Madden 2004: Goldmine

Thanks for the compliments you guys.

As for the sliders, I have no problem with you asking. Until I figure out Madden (like Playmaker, etc.), the sliders are slightly tilted in my favor. Basically all my things are moved two notches to the right (of center) and the CPU's all are 1-2 notches to the left (of center). I completely left Special Teams alone as well as penalties. Hope this doesn't make me seem like a bad player having the sliders in my favor...

      Week 2: UPDATE
The 49ers survived a crazy shootout in St. Louis 42-28. What made it more amazing is that QB Jeff Garcia was knocked out on the Niners first drive for the game with a broken finger. Backup QB Tim Rattay filled in nicely, throwing for four touchdowns against the Rams defense. The 49ers defense also scored a touchdown on an interception. Marshall Faulk had an 80-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, but the Rams could never take the lead from the 49ers.

      San Francisco: 2-0

                  Week 3: Cleveland (1-1) @ San Francisco (2-0) - FAN APPRECIATION DAY

                  1st Quarter
Cleveland opened the game with a punt and things didn't look too good starting off. The 49ers, on the other hand, were progressing just fine as they moved down into the red zone and then Garcia hit Garrison Hearst for a 20 yard score. Later in the first, Chandler added a 39-yard field goal to extend the Niners lead to 10.

                  2nd Quarter
San Francisco forced another punt, but Garcia threw an interception at the SF 27 yard line. The defense held together and Cleveland settled for a 50-yard field goal to make it a one-score game. The 49ers drove downfield and were about to score when Garcia launched another INT, this time in the endzone. The defense was unable to produce similar results this time around as Quincy Morgan caught the ball and took off for a 75-yard touchdown. The score was now all knotted up at 10.

                  3rd Quarter
There were a few stops early, but halfway through the quarter, Jeff Garcia found the endzone from two yards out. This gave the Niners back the lead and they were pumped up. The defense forced a punt. Things got a little worrying when Garcia threw a third interception, but the Browns were unable to make any points out of it.

                  4th Quarter
Cleveland started off the 4th quarter with a 35-yard field goal to pull within 4 points. The 49ers answered back as Garcia hit Tai Streets for a 60-yard bomb to give San Francisco a 24-13 lead. The Frisco defense held off the Browns for the remainder of the game.

FINAL: San Francisco escapes Cleveland's visit 24-13!

                  Key Performances
                  QB Jeff Garcia - 54.4, 15/32, 242 yards, 2 TD, 3 INT - 1 Rush TD

Week 4: San Francisco (3-0) at Minnesota (0-3)
Head Coach Dennis Erickson announced earlier in the week that he would be changing up the offensive playbook to be even more of a West Coast offense. It seemed as though it worked to perfection.

                        1st Quarter
On the opening drive, San Francisco was in field goal range but Chandler hooked the kick. Garcia struggled early with his passing game. As for Minnesota, Michael Bennett got the scoring started with a 58 yard touchdown run. The fans in the Metrodome were going nuts. The 49ers quieted them somewhat with a 58 yard touchdown of their own, from Garcia to Owens. On Minnesota's next drive, Bennett fumbled at the 20 yard line of Minnesota and Ulbrich picked up the ball and scored to give the Niners a 14-7 lead.

                        2nd Quarter
Mike Rumph picked off Daunte Culpepper at Minnesota's 40 yard line. The 49ers put together a quick drive that ended with Garrison Hearst running the ball 17 yards and into the endzone. Minnesota added a field goal to draw closer at 21-10. Just before the two minute warning, Garcia found Owens again, this time for a 45-yard touchdown. The 49ers had a commanding 28-10 lead at the half.

                        3rd Quarter
The Vikings special teams started off the second half in poor fashion as they fumbled a punt return to give up the ball at their own 20. After another short drive, Hearst drove the ball in from the 1. Just as the quarter was ending, Garcia threw an interception that was returned all the way to the SF 12. The only reason a touchdown wasn't scored was because of Owens running down the DB and tackling him.

                        4th Quarter
Minnesota failed to make anything of the great field position as their kicker missed a 40-yard attempt. Late in the quarter, Garcia ran the ball himself from the 1 to put the game away at 42-10.

FINAL: San Francisco crushes Minnesota 42-10!

                        Player of the Game
WR Terrell Owens - 7 rec, 155 yards, 2 TD

                        Key Performances
                        QB Jeff Garcia - 75.8, 13/30, 211 yards, 2 TD, INT - Rush TD
                        RB Garrison Hearst - 22 att, 134 yards, 2 TD - 1 Rec, 7 yards
DE John Engelberger - 7 tackles, 3 sacks
OLB Julian Peterson - 7 tackles, 2 sacks

                        San Francisco 49ers: 4-0
