Week 7: Tampa Bay (3-2) at San Francisco (6-0)

    1st Quarter
The 49ers received the ball first. Naturally, the Bucs D forced a punt. The Buccaneers offense could not get going either and were forced to also punt. San Francisco drove the ball effectively and Fred Beasley ran it in from four yards out to give the Niners a 7-0 lead early in the game.

    2nd Quarter
Tampa Bay fumbled and John Engelberger recovered it at their 23. As a result, the 49ers scored on a one yard touchdown pass to Terrell Owens to put the Niners on top 14-0. Just before the half, Chandler added a 26-yard field goal to make it 17-0.

    3rd Quarter
Tampa Bay came out and finally scored off of a 43-yard field goal. Garcia threw an interception at San Francisco's 28 yard line, which the Bucs turned into another three points. That was all the scoring that was had in this quarter.

    4th Quarter
The Bucs offense couldn't get into the endzone, but a 38-yard field goal by Gramatica drew them to within 8 points as the score stood at 17-9. The 49ers managed to chew up a good bit of time but Chandler was short on a 47-yard field goal try. The Niners defense held the Tampa offense at bay for one more round as the game came to a close.

Week 9: St. Louis (4-3) at San Francisco (8-0)
The Rams came into this one with revenge on their mind. Could they pull it off?

            1st Quarter
The 49ers continued with their opening drive woes as they were once more forced to punt to start off the game. St. Louis' offense was a little slow to get rolling as well and they were held scoreless in the first quarter. With just a few minutes left in the first quarter, Garcia found Beasley for a 15-yard touchdown.

            2nd Quarter
The Rams were forced to punt and Jimmy Williams put San Fran ahead 14-0 with a 44-yard punt return. St. Louis answered back with one play-- an 80-yard bomb to Torry Holt. Soon after, Wilkins added a field goal to make it 14-10. The Rams got the ball back and Torry Holt grabbed ahold on another 80-yard touchdown pass to give the Rams a 17-14 lead. After forcing a punt, the Rams drove downfield and Warner hooked up with Holt again, this time for an 11-yard score. St. Louis had scored 24 unanswered points before the half.

            3rd Quarter
St. Louis opened up the second half with a punt, but it was no problem as San Francisco struggled on offense. Midway through the quarter, stuck on the 15 yard line, Kurt Warner hurled another ball threw the air for an 85-yard touchdown. Know who caught it? Torry Holt! St. Louis was ahead 31-17 as Chandler added a field goal just before the fourth quarter.

            4th Quarter
San Francisco tried to mount a comeback. Garcia hit TE Eric Johnson from 30 yards away to make it 31-23, as Chandler hooked the extra point. The 49ers forced a punt, but Jimmy Williams fumbled on the return, and Jason Sehorn recovered the ball and took it to the house to give the Rams a 38-23 lead. Garcia led the team downfield and again hit Johnson, this time on a 15-yard strike to make it 38-30. St. Louis managed the eat some time but eventually had to give the ball back. Garcia got injured with a bruised quadricep and would have to sit the rest of the game out. Tim Rattay came in and on the first play threw a 48-yard pass to Terrell Owens who scored. They failed to convert for the 2 points and failed to get the onside kick. They came close but fell just shy of catching up.

FINAL: St. Louis ends San Francisco's unbeaten streak with a 38-36 win!

            Player of the Game
WR Torry Holt - 6 rec, 270 yards, 4 TD

            Key Performances
            QB Jeff Garcia - 71.5, 23/43, 317 yards, 3 TD, 3 INT
WR Terrell Owens - 9 rec, 157 yards, TD
TE Eric Johnson - 5 rec, 78 yards, 2 TD

Boy Torry Holt just torched my defense. I constantly was sending the zone coverage to his side of the field but it mattered not. That guy is GOOD!

This last game was probably the last until tomorrow evening or Monday. Tomorrow I move into my dorm at UT Austin so I'll have to get things settled and set up before I can get back to posting.

I'll get around to it eventually. At the moment I'm limited (extremely) on internet access.

As it is, my computer is messed up because of that stupid Blaster virus. I got it before I knew to d/l the patch, so uninstalled the thing that it was crashing... which now I'm assuming is the reason I can't get my computer to work on the University's ports. So... when I am able to post, it'll be short updates probably, until I get my computer up and running. The next post will give you an idea of what I mean. Hope you guys are still enjoying this.
