    Re: Madden 2004: Goldmine

DIVISIONAL PLAYOFFS: Atlanta (9-7) at San Francisco (14-2)

    1st Quarter
Things started out looking good for Michael Vick and the Falcons as they scored a touchdown on the opening drive after Vick threw the ball for a short TD. The thing that made this drive great, besides the fact that they scored a touchdown, was that it took up about 8 minutes of the quarter. The 49ers tried to respond in kind on their next drive, but stalled and settled for Chandler booting a 50-yard field goal to put the score at 7-3.

    2nd Quarter
Things here started off poorly for the Niners as Garcia threw an interception at the San Francisco 22 yard line. After two plays to get them to the 4-yard line, Dunn finished off the drive with a run to put Atlanta on top 14-3. Feeling pressured, the Niners came through on their next drive and drew within 4 points after Beasley charged in from the goaline. Vick & Co. wasn't done, however, and Mike found Gaylor for a 59 yard touchdown pass. San Francisco's offense struggled and was forced to punt. Deion Sanders came through with an interception at Atlanta's 33 yard line, and afterwards Jeff Garcia found Eric Johnson from 7 yards out to make the score 21-17 at the half.

    3rd Quarter
The 49ers got the ball first and drove to the 26 yard line but were unable to go any further. Another Chandler field goal made it 21-20. After a few bad run plays, Atlanta was forced to throw the ball on third down. Jason Webster ended up intercepting it and returning it to the Falcons 26 yard line. The 49ers once again converted the turnover into points, this time with a 7-yard run by Beasley to take their first lead of the game, 27-21.

    4th Quarter
The San Francisco defense was really stepping up now as they forced the Falcons to punt. On the offensive side of the ball, the Niners moved effectively and eventually gave it to Garrison Hearst who took it in from three yards out. The Niners had a 34-21 lead and boy were they pumped. Atlanta got the ball back but their hopes of a comeback were dashed as Webster intercepted the ball at the 16 yard line and returned it for a touchdown to give SF a 20-point lead. Vick & Co. would get to midfield before launching a 49-yard touchdown bomb to Peerless Price but it was too little too late.

    FINAL: San Francisco wins 41-28!

    Player of the Game
CB Jason Webster - 7 tackles, 2 INT, TD

    Key Performances
QB Jeff Garcia - 84.1, 15/25, 212 yards, TD, INT
RB Garrison Hearst - 16 att, 82 yards, TD
FB Fred Beasley - 7 att, 30 yards, 2 TD
WR Terrell Owens - 5 rec, 93 yards

CONFERENCE PLAYOFFS: Bears (10-6) at San Francisco (14-2)

      1st Quarter
On the opening drive, San Francisco was consistent in their play as they methodically moved downfield prior to Jeff Garcia hitting Antonio Freeman on a 6-yard slant for the touchdown. Chicago started out moving the ball well, but their initial drive stalled at the SF 30 yard line and they would have to make do with Edinger's 47-yard field goal. The Bears defense forced a punt but it was all for naught as Jeff Ulbrich intercepted Kordell Stewart at the 24-yard line and returned it for a touchdown. The Niners now had a 14-3 lead.

      2nd Quarter
The Bears offense still could not get moving and were forced to punt. The 49ers then went on a drive but couldn't quite get into the endzone and settled for a Chandler field goal to take a 14-point lead.

      3rd Quarter
Early in the half, LB Julian Peterson went out with a pinched nerve, which will consequently keep him out of the Super Bowl should the Niners make it there. Chicago took advantage of the depleted LB corp of San Fran and made it all the way to within the Niners 10 yard line before Mike Rumph intercepted the ball at the 1 to prevent a score.

      4th Quarter
The Bears misfortune continued as Stewart found WR David Terrell for a long touchdown... or at least SHOULD have. Before reaching the goaline, Terrell started to showboat and dance around, sticking the ball out in front of him. This was a bad and costly mistake as a defender came from behind and knocked the ball loose. The ball bounced into the endzone and out of bounds, resulting in a touchback for the 49ers. Green intercepted Garcia at the 19 yard line, and the Bears finally scored a touchdown after Anthony Thomas pounded it in from the 2 yard line. On the kickoff, Jimmy Williams was simply leveled by a Chicago Bears defender and coughed up the ball at the 20. The San Francisco defense forced them to kick a field goal to put the score at 17-13. After that, the Niners offense took control and finished the game by running out the clock, barely holding on to victory.

FINAL: San Francisco narrowly escapes 17-13!

      Player of the Game
OLB Jeff Ulbrich - 4 tackles, INT, TD

      Key Performances
      QB Jeff Garcia - 56.0, 20/33, 247 yards, TD, 3 INT
TE Eric Johnson - 7 rec, 89 yards
WR Antonio Freeman - 5 rec, 60 yards, TD
WR Terrell Owens - 4 rec, 79 yards

Thanks! I'll be looking for revenge, however...

Btw, what's up with all the ties? Pittsburgh has two, another team has two and a few others have a couple. I wish you could turn off ties but oh well... it's in the game, so I guess it will be a part of each and every single season.

Can't wait to play the Super Bowl. Just finished my Calculus homework so I should be able to play it fairly soon. Then it's the offseason!

SUPER BOWL XXXVIII - Pittsburgh (12-2-2) vs San Francisco (14-2) - Houston, TX

                        1st Quarter
Pittsburgh got the ball first and the San Fran defense was looking tough as they forced the Steelers into a 3rd & 15 situation. However, a blown coverage assignment led to Tommy Maddox hitting a wide open Plaxico Burress who ran the field for an 81-yard touchdown score. The fans went crazy at such a big play to start off the Super Bowl. The 49ers bounced back, however, with a 14-play drive that ended with Garcia sneaking it in from the 1 on 4th & goal. This knotted the game at 7-7.

                        2nd Quarter
San Francisco got the ball back quickly and went on another drive, this time ending in Garcia hitting Owens for a 10-yard touchdown to give the 49ers a 14-7 lead. Pittsburgh's offense struggled and was eventually forced to punt again. The Niners started their next drive with a 33 yard run by Garrison Hearst. After that, Garcia connected with Kevan Barlow for a 25-yard reception. A few more plays and then Garcia found Hearst in the flats for an 8-yard touchdown to give San Francisco a 21-7 lead after scoring 21 unanswered points. The Steelers still had trouble and would punt again, but things seemed to brighten when Jimmy Williams fumbled on the punt return and Pittsburgh recovered at the SF 25. They dimmed just as quickly, however, as Deion Sanders intercepted the ball to prevent any type of score before the half.

                        3rd Quarter
San Francisco started off the second half with a punt. Pittsburgh managed to get the ball a little further downfield thanks to some tough running by Jerome Bettis and a couple of well-placed passes by Maddox. In the end they were forced to settle for the 43-yard field goal of Jeff Reed. Down 21-10, the Steeler defense felt it was time to get something done and they forced a 3-and-out. Randle El would take the wind out of their sails by fumbling on the punt return at their own 34 yard line. The 49ers attempted a toss to Beasley on the very next play but the ball bounced off of a defender and Pittsburgh recovered the fumble. It mattered not as they were forced to punt. San Francisco got the ball back with just over 3 minutes left in the quarter.

                        4th Quarter
The 49ers offense got back on track with an unbelievable 16-play drive that went 77 yards and lasted over 11 minutes! It ended with a 2-yard run from Hearst. After Chandler missed the extra point, the score was 27-10. Pittsburgh got the ball almost to midfield before Maddox again found Burress, this time for a 57-yard touchdown to make it 27-17, but it was not enough as time dwindled down.

FINAL: San Francisco wins the Super Bowl 27-17!!

                        Super Bowl MVP
                        QB Jeff Garcia - 123.2, 16/22, 160 yards, 2 TD - 5 rush, 16 yards, TD

                        Key Performances

WR Antonio Freeman - 5 rec, 41 yards

                        Straight From the Owner
"What an unbelievable job by Coach Erickson. Truly magnificent! People figured he couldn't succeed as a coach in the NFL after how he had done previously but look at him now-- head coach of the Super Bowl champion San Francisco 49ers! Now we get set for the offseason, but not before some much-deserved celebration."

People figured he couldn't succeed as a coach in the NFL after how he had done previously but look at him now-- head coach of the Super Bowl champion San Francisco 49ers! Now we get set for the offseason, but not before some much-deserved celebration."
