    Starting Pitchers
    NYM - Steve Trachsel
    MTL - Orlando Hernandez

The Mets were hoping to start where they left off in the previous game, and hopefully start a little win streak.

Again, the Expos just seemed completely overmatched by New York. Every single batter in the Mets' lineup got at least one basehit, and the squad had 20 for the game. The Montreal offense wasn't nearly as efficient, getting only 8 hits as a team, and had only one runner cross the plate. The Mets win in another easy one, 7-1.

    WP - Trachsel (1-0)
    LP - Hernandez (0-1)

    Reyes - 2-5, 4 Runs, 2 SB
    Matsui - 3-5, 2B, 4 RBI

    Wilkerson - 2-4
    Cabrera - 1-4, Run

      MTL - Livan Hernandez

The Mets hoped to complete the sweep over the Expos in Peurto Rico and pull their record back up to the .500 for the first time this year.

From a very early stage in the ball game, any spectator could tell that this one would be a pitcher's duel. Leiter and Hernandez both pitched well, painting the corners and delivering some nasty off speed junk. Neither team really got on track offensively until the 5th inning, when New York scored a single run off of a Kaz Matsui single. However, the Expos answered with runs of their own, and went on to win 3-1.

      WP - Hernandez (1-1)
      LP - Leiter (0-2)
      S - Biddle (1)

      Matsui - 2-4, RBI
      Reyes - 2-4

      Everett - 1-3, 2B, Run
      Johnson - 1-3, Run, RBI

            NYM - Tom Glavine
            ATL - Paul Byrd

Not even a week after their last series, the Braves and Mets hooked up again for a three game series in New York.

Perhaps it was good pitching, or bad hitting, or maybe even both, but neither team had what you would call a slugfest in this contest. Tom Glavine was well on his way to out-dueling his former club, as he had a 1-0 lead going into the seventh, but he coughed it up. Rafael Furcal went deep on his former teammate, and the Braves added one more run to take the lead. Call it a curse, or just plain bad luck, but Glavine loses to his old team AGAIN, 2-1.

            WP - Cunnane (1-0)
            LP - Stanton (0-1)
            S - Smoltz (2)

            Reyes - 3-4, SB
            Floyd - 1-4, 2B, Run

            Furcal - 1-4, HR (1)
            A. Jones - 3-4

In a matchup of the Braves' number one starter and New York's number three man, the Mets hoped to win against Atlanta for the first time this season.

Not wasting any time, the Mets got on track in the first two innings. Jose Reyes started things off with a line drive single between the second and first basemen, and Kaz Matsui followed suit. After one out, Piazza delivered with a two run double, giving New York an early lead. The Braves offense came no where near that of the Mets, and found themselves in a deep hole. The Mets held on and won this one easily, 4-0.

                  LP - Ortiz (1-1)

In the rubbermatch of this rivalry series, the Mets sent out their hard-throwing righty Pedro Astacio in hopes of taking two out of three against the Braves.

Yet again, the New York offense was something to be proud of. All but one of the starters came through with at least one hit, and numerous players had more than one. The hit total, however, did not translate into many runs, as the Braves defense put the clamp on many rallies-in-the-making. John Thomson threw a good ballgame, but was outdueled by Astacio, and the Mets won 2-0.
