    Starting Pitchers
    NYM - Aaron Heilman
    MTL - Tony Armas Jr.

Fresh off of a huge win, the Mets were looking to make it two straight against the Expos, but Montreal had different plans.

Heilman took the hill in the first inning, and things only got worse from there. The very first batter, Orlando Cabrera took him deep over the left field wall. The Expos continued to pour on the offense, and the Mets' defense had no answer. The first eight innings, it was all Montreal, but New York turned it up in the bottom of the ninth. Mike Cameron took Armas Jr. deep to right field for his first of the year, but it just wasn't enough. The Expos put away the Mets, 6-4.

    WP - Armas Jr. (2-1)
    LP - Heilman (1-2)

    Cameron - 1-4, HR (1), 2 RBI
    Garcia - 2-4, 2B

    Cabrera - 1-5, HR (3)
    Everett - 3-5, 2B, HR (3), 3 RBI

Your Mets are not bad at all. The Braves are really good in this game, but at least you put up some kind of fight. Jose Reyes is doing really well too. You're playing on Pro, Right? or All Star?

                  NYM - Pedro Astacio
                  MTL - Orlando Hernandez

In the third game of the four game series, the Mets pitted their undefeated starter, Astacio, against El Duque in hopes of taking another from their division foes.

For most of the ballgame, the offenses struggled. Sure, both squads managed a couple basehits here, a couple there, but none when it really mattered with runners in scoring position. After nine complete, the score was deadlocked at one run apiece, and both starters were about ready to call it quits. Both teams were scoreless in the 10th inning, and the Mets pulled Astacio and replaced him with Mike Stanton. Stanton held Montreal scoreless in the top of the 11th, and hoped New York could pull out a run in the bottom of the inning. Jose Reyes did his part by getting a basehit single into right field, but Kaz Matsui and Cliff Floyd were both retired by Expo pitching. Mike Piazza, the powerhouse for the Mets this season, came up to bat, and got two quick strikes on him. On the third pitch of the at bat, Rocky Biddle tried to get a little too cute with Piazza, and he drove it over the center field wall, giving the Mets a 3-1 win in 11 innings.

                  WP - Stanton (2-1)
                  LP - Biddle (0-1)

                  Piazza - 2-5, HR (5), 2B, 2 RBI
                  Reyes - 2-5

                  Johnson - 4-5, 2 2B
                  Everett - 2-5, 3B, RBI

In the finale of the series, the Mets and Expos both hoped to improve their overall records while sitting down the other division squad.

The Expos started off early, scoring all three of their runs in the first four innings. The Mets pitching eventually settled down, and didn't allow a runner to reach third base in the final five innings. New York couldn't seem to get the bats going until late, however, and the Expos took this contest, in a close one, 3-2.

In a matchup of number one starters, the New York Mets hoped to knock off the team with the best overall record in the MLB, the Chicago Cubs.

In the early going, Wood seemed to be having trouble with the New York batters. Reyes singled to lead off the ballgame, and the Mets 'surged' to score two runs in the first two innings of play against Wood. After that, however, it was all over for NY. Wood settled down, and the Cubs' offense heated up, scoring EIGHT runs off of 5 home runs. The Mets pitching and defense was almost nonexistant, and just watched as the Cubs beat them 8-2.
