Yanks- Red Sox sounds like a great one. Maybe this time Wakefield can keep the ball in the park.

Not if I have anything to do with it.

I'm torn, I'd love to see the yankees lose in 4, but these are some good recaps, so I'd also like to see the world series one. Ah, maybe just lose in 7 to the Red Sox

Yankees at Red Sox Game 1
      Martinez vs. Brown

This one did not start well for the Yankees as the first pitch thrown from Kevin Brown was hammered into the bullpen by Johnny Damon to give the Red Sox a 1-0 first inning lead. The Red Sox would load the bases later in the inning with only one out, by Brown would get out of it with 2 strikeouts. In the 4th inning Gary Sheffield hit an RBI double off the monster to tie the game. The Red Sox would answer right back in the bottom of the 5th, as Nomar hit a homerun that just cleared the monster to give Boston a 2-1 lead. In the top of the 6th, the struggling Derek Jeter would do the same, this time with a man on base to give the Yankees their first lead, 3-2. In the 7th, Giambi led off with a double. Matsui did his job by slapping a ground ball to first. Ortiz stumbled as he fielded it, and then threw the flip to Pedro away. Giambi scored, Matsui advanced to 2nd, and on the throw home the ball was thrown away again. Matsui got a late break to 3rd though, and was thrown out on a close play. In the bottom of the 8th, Tom Gordon relieved Brown, and after 2 quick outs, gave up a hanging breaking ball to Ramirez, who hammered it for an opposite field homerun cutting the Yankees lead to 4-3. Rivera took over in the 9th. Varitek led off with a double. After getting a fly out to center, Bill Mueller, who had already hit 2 game winning homers off of Rivera this year stepped to the plate. Rivera quickly got ahead 0-2. Mueller then layed off a low and away fast ball to make the count 1-2. Rivera tried to come up and in on Mueller, and Mueller pounced on it, pulling the fastball way over the Boston bullpen in right center. Fenway Park went nuts, the Red Sox stunned the Yankees winning 5-4 and took a 1-0 series lead.

The Yankees did not come to play in this one. Mussina didn't get out of the 4th inning, and the Yankees bullpen couldn't keep it close. Boston pounded out 16 hits, and the Red Sox won 10-3 to take a 2-0 series lead as the teams head to New York.

Red Sox at Yankees Game 3 (Red Sox lead 2-0)
                  Vazquez vs. Maddux

Greg Maddux pitched an all time great performance in this one giving up 1 hit through 7 innings. Unfortunately, in the 2nd inning, the Boston defense let him down making 2 errors, and allowing the Yankees to take advantage of them to take a 1-0 lead. Vazquez continued to work himself in and then out of trouble every inning until the 6th, when Boston finally scored on a Damon sacrifice fly to tie the game. In the bottom of the 8th, the Yankees rallied. Matsui led off with a single. Lee then doubled to give the Yankees runners on 2nd and 3rd with no one out. Ruben Sierra was announced the pinch hitter for Cairo, and he hit a fly ball deep to right. It was caught on the warning track, but Matsui tagged and scored to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead. Williams then hit a sac fly of his own to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead heading to the 9th. Rivera gave up a leadoff single. Reese tried to bunt, the runner was gunned down at 2nd. Damon followed with a bunt of his own, and advanced the runner, but now there were 2 outs. Garciappara flied out to center, and the Yankees were back in the series.

                        Brown vs. Lowe

In another must win game for the Yankees, they decided to go with Kevin Brown on 3 days rest over Contreras. After looking fairly shaky in game 1, the Yankees weren't quite sure what to expect from him. What they got was much better than what they could have possibly ever hoped for. In fact, for 8.1 innings, the Kevin Brown they got was perfect. That ended right after as Varitek lined a hanging breaking ball in the centerfield for a base hit. That was the first and only baserunner for Boston.

Led my a complete game, 1 hit shutout, the Yankees evened up the series and guranteed a trip back to Boston with a 2-0 victory over Derik Lowe and the Red Sox. For the first 5 innings, Lowe matched Brown frame for frame. Then in the 6th with 2 outs, Jeter ground a single through the right side, and was doubled home by Arod. In the 7th, the Yankees added a little insurance with an RBI single by Matsui. That 2nd run was more than Kevin Brown needed as he dominated Boston for the entire game.

                        W Brown (2-0)
                        L Lowe (1-1)

Red Sox and Yankees are tied 2-2
Cardinals and Astros are tied 2-2
