Re: Michigan Wolverines (CH2K5)
#13 Southern Illinois 32 31-63
#4 Michigan 43 51-94
In their first NCAA Tournament action since 1998, the 4th-seeded Michigan Wolverines were determined to make a statement.
Unfortunately for Southern Illinois, they were UM's first opponent.
The Wolverines jumped ahead of the Salukis early, using the fast break to gain an early 19-8 advantage. The 11 point lead stuck, as UM ked 43-32 at halftime. The second half was a massacre, to say the least, as Michigan outscored SIU 51-31, winning the game 94-63.
Player of the Game
Courtney Sims: 25 points, 15 rebounds, 6 blocks, 5 assists
Dion Harris: 28 points, 6 steals
Daniel Horton: 16 points, 7 assists, 5 steals
Lester Abram: 11 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists
Stetson Hairston: 19 points, 8 assists
Josh Warren: 14 points, 9 rebounds
Jamaal Tatum: 7 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds
Lamar Owen: 6 points, 7 rebounds

Re: Michigan Wolverines (CH2K5)
#4 Michigan 36 44-80
#1 Kansas 40 32-72
The only other team Michigan had faced that was the caliber of Kansas was Illinois, and they were 0-2 against them.
This is March. Anything goes.
The 1st-seeded Jayhawks were obvious favorites over 4th-seeded Michigan. Kansas was supposed to be here. Michigan was expected as well, but not as high as a #4 seed. The talent difference was negligible however, and KU held a slim 40-36 edge at the break, rallying from an early 15-2 hole.
The Wolverines struggled to stay in it all throughout the second half, as Kansas threatened to blow them out of The Pit. The Jayhawks got it up to as much as an 8 point lead before Daniel Horton returned from foul trouble, and UM cut into the lead and eventually went over the top. Michigan drilled all their FTs down the stretch, and upset #1 Kansas to reach the Elite Eight with an 80-72 win.
Player of the Game
