BRONCOS SIGN 17 LAND THE #29 OVERALL CLASS

Not only did Coach Matt Miller have success this season in not losing a single player to the transfer portal but he also did a great job at adding some talented players from the Portal signing 8 players.

Miller also added 4 very talented 4* WR's to a already young receiving room and a pair of 4* RB's that could complete for the #1 job in the post Sire Gaines era.

BSU had signed just 3 players in the regular season recruiting period but managed to sign 17 more players in the off-season to finish with a Class of 20 players that ranked #29 Nationally and #4 in the Pac-12.

After keeping convincing both Tanner Applewhite and Brian Ridge to return to backup up Tavien St Clair, Miller and Arroyo landed the Broncos future starter getting 3* Deonte Todd in the Portal.. Todd a Redshirt Freshman from USC is 6'4 218 lbs and looks very much liked St Clair did when he arrived from Ohio State.

BSU has signed 3 RB's from the transfer portal the past 3 season's to share the rushing load with Sire Gaines and this year is no different. BSU had targeted several highly touted 4* RB's including a pair of Arizona State RB's familiar with Arroyo's offense but instead went with one of Tavien St Clair's former teammates landing 3* Lamar "Bo" Jackson.. Jackson was a highly touted recruit (#9 Overall) out of high school but never suited up for the Buckeyes instead transfering San Jose State for the 2026 season. After rushing for almost 1000 yds and 12 TD's for the Spartans, Jackson hit the portal again this time signing with San Diego State, but Jackson would play just 5 games for the Aztec's before getting hurt and now is looking to follow in Roderick Robinson II's shoes and see if he can put together a 1000 yd season despite sharing the backfield with Gaines. Jackson is listed as a RS SO, so he will potentially have the #1 RB title after Gaines graduates.

Miler also landed a pair of talented 4* High School recruits in 5'10 189lb Randall Amerson (#166 Overall/#17 RB). Amerson was the Nebraska Gatorade POY (#1 Recruit) from Lincoln and held a scholarship offer with the Huskers. 4* Tyler Fry (#332 Overall/#39RB) is listed at 6'1 209lbs from Lawrenceville GA.. Fry had a late scholarship offer and push from Clemson but in the end picked BSU.. Both players are expected to Redshirt and push for a starting job in 2029

BSU already returns their Top-4 WR's from last season including a pair of 1000 yd WR's in E. Fogg and K. Bettis but that didn't stop Miller from landing 4 more very talented 4* recruits including a pair of High School Gatorade POY's.

6'5 192lb Kyle Harmon (Draper Utah) was ranked #125 Overall/#2 Utah and #21 WR)
    6'1 201lb Jermarcus Boykins (Englewood CO) was ranked #157 Overall/#1 Colorado/#30 WR)
    6'3 194lb Keshaun Buckner (Shaokopee MN) was ranked #181 Overall/#1 Minnesota/#39 WR)
6'4 194lb Conner Friesz (Salt Lake City UT) was ranked Latest Posts link? Overall/#6 Utah/#57 WR)

All 4 are expected to Redshirt and push their way onto the depth chart in 2029.

Boise State graduated their Top-3 TE's off the depth chart. They added 3* Recruit Tobias Teague early in the season but Teague is expected to move to FB so they landed 3* Chase Loftin in the portal.. A TR JR from Florida State, Loftin is listed at 6'6 234lbs and is expected to push for the starting job next season after not seeing any action the past 2 year's at FSU.

Coach Miller struck out on several O-Lineman recruits in the Portal as he targeted 4 potential starters to replace 3 starters from last season who all were drafted to the NFL..

    BSU lost 2 of it's Top-2 DT's to graduation
DT Michael Mardie (30 tackles, 7 TFL, 4.5 sacks) and DT Markis Deal (43 Tackles, 14 TFL, 4 Sacks) so Miller landed 3* Aric Martin (Notre Dame). Martin recorded just 17 Tackles with 4 TFL and 3 sacks last season for the Irish but he is expected to push for a starting job.

Miller also landed 4* High School recruit Callum Johnson (#119 Overall/#8 DT). Johnson is listed at 6'4 316lbs from Cedar Rapids Iowa and was Iowa's Gatorade POY (#1 State)

BSU must figure out away to replace LB Clay Martineau (110 Tackles 10 TFL 3 Sacks, 2 INT) the Dick Butkus/Bronko Nagurski/Chuck Bednarik Award winner All-American., and they got a pretty good place to start landing a pair of 3* Recruits from the Portal.

RS FR Maurice Nwangqu (SMU) saw limited action last year for the Mustangs (7 tackles) but TR SO Devonta Cushenberry (N. Texas) was a 2 year starter for the Mean Green and recorded 64 Tackles with 1 Forced Fumble last season.

BSU graduated CB Frankyln Johnson Jr (67 Tackles 2 INT) but will look to replace him with 3* Recruit Nate Muma (Pitt).. Muma recorded 51 tackles and had 9 Pass Deflections for the Panthers last season.

BSU also gradated SS Boen Phelps (90 tackles, 2 INT) and will look to replace him with 3* Recruit Rachard Ray (USC).. Ray recorded 32 Tackles last season for the Trojans

      NATION CHAMPS ADD #1 CLASS
The Texas Longhorns coming off their National Championship win land the #1 Class signing 33 players including a nation high (4) 5* Recruits along with (23) 4* and (6) 3* rated at 257.50.

Georgia comes in #2.. The Bulldogs signed 34 players including 3-5*, 30-4* and 1-3* giving them a PT rating of 254.45. The landed former Alabama QB K. Russell

Alabama despite missing the playoffs and barely finishing in the Top-25 (#24) lands the #3 Class. The Tide signed 33 players (3-5*, 23-3* and 7-3*).

Ohio State not only lost to Michigan in their final game of the season but the Buckeyes didn't even win their Bowl game and finish in the Top-25 but they did manage to land the #4 class with 33 signings (2-5*, 31-4*,) including former Alabama RB A. Dear and the #1 WR in the portal C. Odom (Notre Dame).

Clemson rounds out the Top-5 at #5.. The Tigers also didn't make the playoffs and finished the year ranked #20 but that could all change next year as they sign 27 players (2-5*, 20-4*, 5-3*) including former Colorado QB Jullian Lewis the #1 player in the Portal.

Yeah. I just can't get over the hump.. I lose 1 game during the regular season and once the playoffs hit can't seem to put together a full game.

              2028 MEDIA GUIDE PART I

              TEAM SCHEDULE

The #13 Ranked Broncos will kick off their 2028 schedule with a Top-25 showdown with #19 Ole Miss on the road in a Pac-12/SEC Showdown. BSU will then host Texas State in their home opener in Week 1 before taking a early "Bye" Week in Week 2. BSU will close out non-conference play with a trip to the Big Island as they take on Hawaii in Week 3.

The Broncos will start their Pac-12 title defense in Week 4 at UCLA before finally playing their 2nd home game of the season in Week 5 as they host Arizona.

All eyes will be on Week 6 as Boise State heads to Eugene for a showdown with the Ducks who don't start in the Top-25 Preseason Poll for the first time since 2000.

After a Week 7 "Bye" week, Boise State will rotate Home/Away matchups to close out the season against the Pac-12 North Division.

              Week 8 vs BYU
              Week 9 at Utah
              Week 10 vs Washington State
              Week 11 at Oregon State
Week 12 vs Colorado "Senior Day"
Week 13 at Washington "Miller vs D Part II"

              THE ROSTER

Boise State starts the season with 82 players on the roster with 17 players set to graduate (10 Offense/7 Defense). They have 20 Juniors (9 Offense/11 Defense) 18 Sophomores (9/9) and 27 Freshman (14/13)

Miller has struggled the past 2 seasons with in-season recruiting but has done well in the Off-season in both the Portal and with high school recruits including a Top-30 class last season. With 20 scholarships open next season plus potentially 5-10 portal loss's, MIller and the staff will look to Build a Big Board with 30 players and potentially offering scholarships to at least half of them.

**I will have a more in depth roster breakdown by each position in Part II of the Team Preview/Media Guide

                MEDIA GUIDE PART II

                (Overall) (R=Redshirting) (RS=Already Redshirted)
                QB
RS JR Tavien St Clair (92)
                RS JR Tanner Applewhite (88)
                RS SR Brian Ridge (82)
                RS FR Denote Todd (80)
                RS SO Brian Epenesa (77)

St Clair is a Pre-Season Heisman pick after throwing for 4539 yds with 48 TD and 10 INT last year.. He can also move the ball with his feet rushing for 382 yds and 4 TD's. Applewhite is a former FSU transfer who hasn't seen much action but decided against entering the portal and had a great spring (training) overtaking Ridge for the #2 job.. Ridge a former San Jose State transfer threw for over 4000 yds with 23 TD and 6 INT in 2026 and also surprised Miller by sticking around for his Senior year. Todd is former USC Trojan transfer and could very well be the QB#1 next season should St Clair declare after being projected as a 3rd round this past season. Epenesa is a former 3* Recruit who also had a pretty decent spring but appears to be a career backup at this point.

                RB
                RS SR Sire Gaines (90)
                RS JR Bo Jackson (84)
                RS JR Greg Ard (82)
                RS SR Dylan Riley (81)
                (R) FR Tyler Fry (80)
                (R) FR Randall Amerson (79)
                (R) FR Jermarcus Boykins (77)

Gaines has been one of the best RB's in Boise State history.. He has over 3700 yds rushing and 54 TD's in his first 3 seasons and should easily break the Pac-12 record for career TD's as well as the Boise State school record. If he stays healthy he will also surpass Cedric Minter's school record of 4475 yds in a career as well. Jackson a former Ohio State/San Jose State/San Diego State transfer looks to be the perfect addition to the backfield as he will hopefully help keep Gaines healthy all season. Jackson has over 1000 yds rushing in his career but most of those came in 2026 for San Jose State when he rushed for 982 yds and 12 TD's. Ard has seen limited PT but does have a career 4.6 avg with 57 carries for 262 yds and 5 TD. Riley spends the bulk of his time on special teams with over 1200 Kick return yards and a 24.2 avg. He will be the team's 3rd down back though this season as he has the best hands of the group. Fry/Amerson and Boykins are 4* Recruits who will redshirt and look to battle each other for the starting role in 2030. Boykins was brough in as a WR but moved to RB.

                FB
                RS SR Kaden Anderson (78)
                (R) FR Tobias Teague (67)

Anderson returns for his 4th season as the Broncos starting FB. He has just 1 career carry but does have 19 receptions for 210 yds with 1 TD. Teague is also a former 3* TE recruit who moves to FB and will redshirt with the expectations he will take over for Anderson next season.

                WR
                RS JR Ezekiel Fogg (87)
                RS SR Cameron Bates (84)
                RS SO Kelian Bettis (83)
                RS SO Dennis Moses (82)
                RS SO Arthur Wing (80)
                RS FR Evan Qualls (78)
                (R) FR Keshaun Buckner (77)
                (R) Kyle Harmon (75)
                (R) Conner Friesz (74)

Fogg recorded 17 rec for 210 yds as a True Freshman but followed it up with a breakout year leading the team in yards (1364) finishing with 101 receptions and 12 TD's. Bates also had a breakout season last year finishing with 63 receptions for 853 yds and 9 TD. after giving up his special team return role. Bettis set new BSU records last season with 104 receptions and 17 TD's well also finishing with 1279 yds. Moses finished last year with just 13 rec for 198 yds and 1 TD as the team's #4 WR but he also took over Bates role on Special teams recording 17 KR for 433 yds (25.5 avg) and PK's with 39 for 399 yds (10.2 avg). Wing didn't record a catch as the team's #5 well Qualls redshirted last year. Both players provide solid depth well a Trio of 4* Recruits Buckner/Harmon/Friesz will all redshirt this season.

                TE
                RS SR Joey Olsen (84)
                RS SR Chase Loftin (80)
                RS JR Clayton Boswell (80)
                RS FR Roy Carney (77)

Olsen is a late transfer portal addition (it didn't show he signed but he was on the roster when I moved forward to the season). A 3* transfer from USC he hasn't record a career catch yet but won the job as the starting TD.. He is 6'5 252lbs. Loftin another 3* transfer from Florida State also doesn't have a career reception but like Olsen is a huge target at 6'6 235lbs. Boswell more of a blocker then a receiver but didn't managed 2 catches for 33 yds last season. Carney is a former WR who moves to TE (He is 6'5) as he will prepare for a chance to earn the starting role next season.

                O-LINE
LT RS JR Jacob Tracy (78)
LG RS JR Chauncy Gooden (78)
C RS SO Branden Chancey (78)
RG RS FR Tyler Koppen (83)
RT RS SO Jamie Ahlers (77)

LT/RT RS FR Vince Westbrook (75)
LG/RG RS SR Matt Lado (79)
                LG/RG RS SOTiquan Coxie (82)
C RS SO Keegan Goffen (75)
                LT/RT (R) FR Quinn Winston (74)

Gooden and Ahlers both started last season well the others were all reserves who saw some PT last year. With no one set to graduate among the starting 5 and only Lado among the reserves this unit should have some time to gel well Miller looks to restock the reserves.

                D-LINE
                RS SR Ephraim Asiata (82)
                RS SO Matthias Pack (75)
                RS SR Malkai Ta'Ase (81)
                RS SR Frank Solatia (77)

                RS SR Aric Martin (85)
                RS SR Lopez Sanusi (78)
                RS SO Matt Littlejohn (79)
                (R) FR Callum Johnson (76)

There are alot of transfer portal additions over the past 2 seasons.. Asiata (BYU) has the most career TFL (21) and Sacks (9.5) well Sanusi is the returning leader in sacks last season with 5.5 Martin transfered in from Notre Dame this past season.

                RS SO Denton Baer (78)
                RS FR Lorenzo Tiffin (75)

There is alot of talent at all 3 LB's roles this season Cushenberry is the leader after being a 2 year starter for North Texas recording over 100 career tackles well Tuitoti is a homegrown talent who has 101 career tacklers over 3 seasons for the Broncos. Nwangwu is a SMU transfer well Bryant is a former 4* Athlete who could move to TE (his recruited position) should Miller fail to recruit a starting TE next year.

                THE SECONDARY
                JR Kyle Marks (85)
                JR Nate Muma (81)
                RS JR Dominik Calhoun (79)

                RS SO Isiah Meadow (76)
                RS FR Deonte Clayborn (75)

Calhoun shined as a starter last year recording 105 Tackles with 5 INT's. Muma is a Pitt transfer who will battle Marks for the CB#1 job. Neither have a career INT so really Calhoun is probably CB#1 well the other will both start as CB2/3 Robinson recorded 73 Tackles last year as a starter but also finished without a INT. He will be pushed for the starting job at FS by R. Ray who transfered from USC after recording 52 tackles for the Trojans. Anderson is the team's starting SS. He recorded 53 tackles last year.

                SPECIAL TEAMS

PK SO Diego Gutierrez (79) connected on 25/29 FG"s last year and 90/91 XPT's. Only 1 of his missed FG's was inside 50 yds
P RS FR Mitch Lauderdale (80). A former 3* Lauderdale redshirted last year but should be a 4 year starter.
