Re: 2 Teams=2 Dreams (BSU and EWU Quest for Perfection)

Okay guys so I spent most of the morning playing games trying to get to the bowl games. Didn't quite get there I still got a big game with BSU vs Cincy in a #1 vs #2 matchup in Week 14.

I work the next 5 days, but should have enough time to get in a weekly update for Week 12 tomorrow, Week 13 on Friday and hopefully Week 14 on Sat. Then update the rest of year on Sunday and Monday so I will be able to get in my bowl games and end of the season news next week on my days off.

Sorry for the lack of updates today.

I'm looking forward to see how it all wraps up. There is nothing like a #1 vs. #2 battle right at the end of a season.

          WEEK 12 BCS TOP-25 POLLS

With the upset of #1 Wisconsin and #2 Virginia Tech in Week 11 as well as several other big Top-25 losses. The Polls have a drastic new look with only 2 teams sitting atop the Polls with a perfect record and thus Week 14 is now a bigtime matchup as #1 meets #2 in a rematch of last year's National Championship game.

"Wow this is huge. This was perfect timing for the Boise State Broncos. They have played great all year and to finally get in the Top-25 with 3 games left including a Week 14 matchup with #2 Cincy insures that if they finish perfect they are locks to play for a chance to repeat for a National Title. At worst even a loss to Cincy should allow them a spot in a BCS Bowl game. Obviously that would be a huge mark on their resume as they continue to fight for the chance to join a BCS Conference"

            WEEK 12 RECAP

            #1 (9-0) VS (5-6)

Getting voted the #1 team in the Nation was a huge boost to the Bronco's players and staff, not that they would need it as they took on the struggling Wolfpack though.

SR QB K. Moore showed no rust for not having played 2 weeks, throwing 3 TD's in the 1st Quarter and the Broncos "D" shut down Nevada holding them scoreless in the 1st half as BSU took a 31-0 lead into the locker room.

Moore would open the 2nd half with his 4th TD pass of the day, and Doug Martin add another score as BSU lead 45-0 after the 3rd Quarter.
Nevada would finally get on the scoreboard going against the 2nd team unit scoring twice on the ground.

            FINAL SCORE BSU-45 NEVADA-14

            KEY PLAYERS
            QB K. Moore-22/27 333 yds 4 TD
            RB D. Martin-21 carries 83 yds (3.9 Avg) 1 TD
            WR T. Shoemaker-9 rec 143 yds 1 TD
            WR K. Moore-6 rec 120 yds 3 TD

            (7-3) VS (4-5)

Last year the Eagles beat the Vandals inside the Kibbie Dome to win the first Annuel Battle for the "Big Sky Trophey" named after the conference they once shared.

It was close in the 1st Quarter as both teams traded scores. but then EWU took over in the 2nd Quarter scoring 3 unanswered TD's to take a 28-7 lead into the half.

EWU opened the 2nd half with a 52 yd TD run by T. Jones (his 3rd of the day). Idaho would answer back with a TD pass to make it 35-14, but then it it was SR RB Taiwan Jones making school history as he scored his 4th and 5th TD's of the night as EWU blows out the Vandals to take home the trophey.

            FINAL SCORE EWU-49 IDAHO-21

            KEY PLAYERS
            QB B. Mitchell-19/32 331 yds 2 TD
            RB T. Jones-29 carries 260 yds (8.9 Avg) 5 TD
            WR B. Kauffman-11 rec 167 yds 1 TD
            WR T. Hart-5 rec 107 yds

"Taiwan continues to amaze me at the level he is playing at. I knew he was great the first time I saw him, so I am still shocked he didn't get a look from bigger schools. This kid could be dominating the Pac-12 with the effort he puts out every day. (265 carries 2271 yds (8.5 Avg) 33 TD's)"

Well we will find out soon. EWU only has their Week 13 game against #22 Colorado State for the WAC Title left, and then a bowl game, but yeah if he keeps this up. He will post some amazing #'s. What's crazy is he is the best RB I have ever played with in regards to breaking tackles and getting to the corner and outrunning defenders. Yet his #'s are no where as good as D. Martin from BSU or even DJ Harper my backup. I guess with BSU I just tend to pass more because I have K. Moore running the show.

Guess we will see if things change next year when I have the #1 Overall/#1 HB in the country lining up in Blue and Orange.

Jones is dominating! Do you think his backup will have anywhere close to the success he's having? (1500 yards even?) Can't wait for the next update

Yeah. It looks like right now only 2 Boardmember Coaches will be going bowling this year, but I see big things for ECU in the future with the transfer RB.

Right now my starting RB next year is a big? My backup Beamonte is a SR as well. I have a RS FR as my #3 but he is only a 60 Overall. He has however rushed for a 5.2 Avg on his 13 carries. But I have 3 incoming RB's and a fairly high rated Athlete as well. So it will be a open competition next year for both the QB and HB posistion.

                                WEEK 13

                                (8-3) @ #22 (8-1)

EWU VS RAMS FOR WAC TITLE

The Colorado State Rams moved from the MWC to the WAC last season and claimed their 1st Conference Title, well EWU made the jump from FCS Ranks to the WAC finishing 3rd in the Conference in this 1st season in Div I Football.

Today's game was a big one for both teams. CSU had just moved into the Top-25 last week at #22 and were looking to claim their 2nd straight title taking the place of BSU as the dominate team in the WAC, well EWU was looking to show that their season was no fluke and after a rough 1-3 start, they were ready to continue their 7 game win streak.

EWU would start out cold, as the Rams got on the scoreboard early on a R. Carter 5 yd Run, then Bo Levi Mitchell would throw a "Pick 6" that was returned 75 yds for the score as CSU took a 14-0 lead in the 1st Quarter.

EWU would battle back as SR DE D. Miles returns a fumble 84 yds for the score to make it 14-7, but CSU wasn't done as RB L. Mason scores on a 52 yd run of the direct snap, and then QB P. Thomas hits M. Yemm on a 86 yd bomb to make it 28-7 with 3 mintues to play in the half. With 6 seconds to play Mitchell would find JR WR B. Kauffman in the endozne on a 6 yd score to make it 28-14 at the half.

Again the EWU Offense would struggle to start the 2nd half and the Eagles were forced to settle for a 38 yd FG on the opening drive. CSU would answer back with their own FG to keep the 2 score lead (31-17). Finally with less then 2 minutes to play in the 3rd. RB Taiwain Jones would score his 1st TD of the day to make it 31-24. After a huge defensive stop, Mitchell would find his favorite target once again hitting B. Kauffman on a 22 yd score to tie the game 31-31 going into the 4th.

Both teams would fail to move the ball again in the 4th and after punts by both teams it was EWU with the ball with less then 4 minutes to play. Again T. Jones would do what he does best and deliver a huge run capped off by a 1yd score to give EWU their 1st lead of the day with 2:30 to play. CSU wasn't ready to give up though as RB R. Carter would score from 3 yds out to make it 38-38 with 1:32 to play. Not wanting to give CSU any chance of getting the ball back, Coach Baldwin would stick to the ground game pounding out yards looking to set up Jarrett for the game winning FG, but instead T. Jones would break a run 22 yds down to the 5 yd line with 11 seconds to play. Rather then kick the FG and give CSU time left for a mircle, Coach Baldwin called Jones's # 1 more time and the Senior delivered scoring from 3 yds out (his 3rd of the day).

POST GAME COMMENTS BY COACH BALDWIN.

"This was a huge game for our program, the coaching staff, our players and the fans. You couldn't have asked for a better game as a fan, but let me tell you my stomach was in knots at times. QB B. Mitchell struggled but made huge plays when we need them, and TJ (T. Jones) had issues breaking big runs in the 1st half, but delivered in the 2nd half as we wore them down. I am very proud of this team"

(With the win. EWU take's the WAC Title and will play in the Emerald Bowl. Opponent is still TBA, but it will be the #7 seed from the Red River Conference which at this time would be Texas A&M)
