      RECRUITING UPDATE

USC LANDS #1 FOR 2ND STRAIGHT YEAR

For the 2nd straight year, the USC Trojans have made the most of the scholarships they were given, signing 20 players including 6 of the nations best 5* talent (Also signed 8-4* and 6-3*)

Among those players are Herbies (DT Ian McLaughlin, QB Matt Lane, Ath Michael James, Ath Chris Ravage, and MLB Damien Clark.)

THE REST OF THE TOP 5

The Gator's struggle on the field going just 8-4 and 4-4 in SEC play, far from their days of playing for National Titles, but that doesn't keep kids from wanting to come to the Swamp and prove they are the missing piece to get this powerhouse back on track. Florida signed 7-5* players including some of the nations best "Herbies"
      Ath Aaron Wheeler
      HB Jordan Ross
      Ath Tyler Drake
      CB Joshua Webb

The Ducks might have signed only 1-5* recruit but it was a good one in DE Wyatt Corbin (Herbie), joining him in Eugene next year however will be 12 4-* and 7-3* Freshman looking to keep the Ducks flying high.

The Nitty Lions like Florida struggled on the field going just 7-5 Overall and 5-3 in Big Ten play, but again the lure to play at Death Valley is still something every kid dreams of as 21 players put their name on the dotted line (2-5*, 9-4* and 10-3*)

The Broncos might have lost the National Championship, but they made up for it with recruiting, signing 21 players total (3-5*, 5-4*,13-3*), Coach Pete landed 3 of the nation's best including #1 Overall/#1 HB Robertson Howard (Herbie) and 6'5 WR Matt Lykell (Herbie), as well as a late signing with 6'3 Athlete Ernst Bray (likely to join Lykell at WR). Plus they signed 4* QB 6'5 Corey Haas (Herbie) as well to challenge for the vacated role of replacing Kellen Moore.

      THE REST OF THE TOP-10

      #6 OKLAHOMA (2-5*,10-4*,5-3*)
Signed LT Kesley Charles and TE TJ Deuce (Herbies)

      #7 Ohio State (2-5*,10-4*, 4-3*)

      #8 ALABAMA (4-5*, 5-4*, 5-3*)
      Signed Herbie Spencer Morgan

      #9 VIRGINIA TECH (1-5*, 9-4* 8-3*)
Signed Herbies QB Harlee James and WR Justin Blanton

      #10 TEXAS (2-5*, 7-4*, 6-3*)
Signed Herbie RB's Cecil White and Speer Hopson

      OTHER NOTEABLE HERBIE SIGNINGS

QB Steven Janik signs to play for the Irish

CB/WR Leon Murray signs to play for the Canes

QB Jay Randolph turns down LSU to play for the Noles

      COACH BALDWIN HAS HUGE SUCCESS!!!!

Even thought the EWU season ended on a sour note losing to Texas A&M in the Emerald Bowl, Coach Baldwin made up for that loss with a huge win in recruiting, signing the #31 Best Class in the Nation (22-3* and 2-2*)

Gone is QB Bo Levi Mitchell, RB Taiwan Jones, WR's G. Heard and T. Hart, as well as starting DE's D. Miles and R. Williams and Kicker M. Jarrett, but Coach Baldwin signed multiple replacements for each of them.

      3* PK E. Lewis (#4 Kicker)
      3* QB C. Todd (#55 QB)
      3* QB M. Wilson (#61 QB)
      3* HB R. Campbell (#88 HB)
      3* HB D. Ball (#86 HB)
      3* ATH T. Marshall (#72 ATH)
      3* ATH D. Stewart (#54 ATH)
      3* WR C. Thomas (#117 WR)
      3* WR B. Pierre (#166 WR)
      3* WR M. Alexander (#138 WR)
      3* WR A. Washington (#93 WR)
      3* WR C. Wesley (#92 WR)
      3* DE D. Schultz (#98 DE)
      3* DE W. Bennett (#121 DE)
      2* DE K. Brantley (#140 DE)

      Coach Baldwin
"I am excited about the incoming class. Both Stewart and Marshall will challenge Ball and Campbell in the backfield for the chance to be the #1 and #2 HB. Todd and Wilson will compete against RS FR B James and T. Peoples to replace QB B. Mitchell, and the 5 WR's will battle for a chance to be the #3,#4,#5 WR's this coming season. We hope that 1 of them will be our future B. Kauffman. We also hope that Schultz or Bennett will be able to replace Williams as our pass rushing "All Havoic DE"

wow, Moore got screwed, although I do think the rushing had a lot to do with it. 9 rushing tds is pretty solid, and so is the 600+ yards. I would have to say that is the difference maker, but I still would have given Moore the nod for better efficiency, and overall better passing stats.

Can't wait to see the start of the new season!!!

COACH PETE'S EVALUATION OF THE ROSTER

              QUARTERBACK
"Obviously we have amazing depth here and any of the 5 guys on the roster have enough talent to play, but after watching them all spring we felt like Corey Haas did what he needed to do, to earn the job. Joe will continue to be our #2 and Carlson and Fraizer will battle it out for the #3 job well Hill Redshirts. I don't expect all to stay on at BSU after the season."

              RUNNINGBACK
"When you sign the #1 Overall Player and #1 RB in the nation, it is a given he is your #1 RB. Robertson Howard looks like he will be a stud. SR M. Kaiserman gives us a expierenced backup who can be a nice change of pace, and M. Justice gives us some talent as the #3 RB."

              WIDE RECIEVER
"This is the deepest posistion I have every seen. Our Top-6 WR could be starters are most teams. FR M. Lykell and A. Bray are future studs and could be a better combo then Pettis and Young. Moore/Potter/Bourroughs gives us some amazing leadership and Hwiat and Ware provide excellent depth."

              TIGHTEND
"SR C. Koch will have his hands full trying to replace Mackey Award winner K. Efaw, but with our WR core, I don't think he will have too. Lopez and Jackson provide depth, but signing a Top TE will be a #1 priority for us this season"

              OFFENSIVE LINE
"Our O-Line ranks among the nations best. Leno and Wright provide solid protection and Kellogg,Myers,Durrant are among the nations best run blockers. Ames,Williamson, and Allen provide excellent depth and Beck is a future stud. We will look hard and heavy at Guards this season to balance out our young depth"

              DEFENSIVE LINE
"Petty,Cooke and Wood give us an amazing young pass rush that will be a staple of our "D" for years to come and Atkinson,Tjong A Tjoe and M. Woods give us a great Run stuffing middle"

              LINEBACKERS
"Smith and Percy provide solid leadership, well Mosley,Williams and King provide excellent youth depth. These guys are fast and know how to hit people"

              SECONDARY
"Gavins is one of the best shutdown corners in the nation, and SO B. Moss has the speed to keep up with anyone who steps on the field. RS JR E. Makinde is a excellent Nickleback and RS FR K. Williams, RS FR B. Wyatt, and RS FR D. Barber are 3 very young and promising safeties.

              SPECIAL TEAMS
"FR Kicker H. Hill and FR Punter K. Field give us solid options for the next 4 years. We are lucky to have landed their type of talent"

COACH BALDWIN'S TAKE ON THE ROSTER

                  QUARTERBACK
"This will be a interesting year for us at the Quarterback posistion as none of the 3 have even attempted a pass at the College level. Wilson wins out the job after showing good awareness (71) and throwing power (86 THP) in the spring. Peoples and James are both projects, but will have a chance to battle for the #2 spot. C. Todd will start out redshirting but if needed will be brought in to take over the #2 spot and even challenge Wilson to start. We will continue to look at this year's class for a long term replacement"

                  RUNNINGBACK
"This is still a wideopen competition. Stewart will get the start against Colorado in Week 1, but Johnson and Ball will both get carries. Like the QB spot, this posistion needs a huge upgrage to fill the shoes of TJ"

                  WIDERECIEVERS
"Kauffman returns to see if he can add to his record breaking year and become the best WR to every play in Cheney. Edwards is a excellent #2 and Puyear and Flynn give solid #3/#4 options. We have alot of youth here and hopefully someone will step up and be the next Kauffman."

                  TIGHTEND
"Williams played well last year as the starter but lost his job to Brown in the spring. With a so-so O-Line and FR QB, someone will need to step up and be a outlet when Kauffman is covered."

                  OFFENSIVE LINE
"The O-Line took a huge hit with 3 starters graduating. LT B. Murphy will be asked to protect both the QB and help with the run game. and RG W. Post is a team captain."

                  DEFENSIVE LINE
"RS JR J. Ceja and DT E. Cook will be asked to be the force that once was R. Williams. The rest of the unit is young and inexpiernced"

                  LINEBACKERS
"P. Ena and T. Washburn give the unit expierence and leadership. There is not much depth here and will need to be addressed this year"

                  SECONDARY
"Gayton,Chandler,Lechtenberg,Minnerly and Armstrong give this unit alot of starting expierence and should help the Eagles stay in the game if the Offense can put up some points. There is also alot of young depth, so hopefully there is a hidden superstar in there somewhere"

                  SPECIAL TEAMS
"FR Kicker E. Lewis will be asked to do alot as the Eagles are sure to struggle to score points. Hopefully he can live up to the pressure"

When you have a transition of a new quarterback and running back a good offensive line is vital and Boise State has a GREAT offensive line.

I foresee Howard having a monster freshman year running behind the big men up front.

                    .........

EWU looks like they're rebuilding and it will be interesting to see how the Freshman does taking over the quarterback position.

I'm excited to see this season kick off.

Yeah the O-Line is still stacked at BSU so I am pumped to see how the Offense plays as well. I think Haas has a chance to be a stud with Lykell and Bray to throw too, and yes I plan on making Howard into a stud and challenging T. Jones and Barry Sanders for the TD record.

My EWU team has gone from solid to ?? Crappy??

I can't belive it when I look at the Overalls of all the 3* guys I brought in. Not a single guy was above 65. This team is going to be good in 3 or 4 years, but I need to start landing some 4* talent.

well here's to hoping Haas plays great (or at least good) and you're not forced to bench him.

When Taiwan Jones graduated taking his 2000+ yards and 36 TD's with him, the Big ? was who would take his place. Well meet FR Dennis Stewart. Stewart did his best impression of TJ as he carried the ball 22 times for 239 yds (10.8 Avg) and this 79 yd TD score.

Last season SR Billy Lechtenberg led the team with 7 INT's. Today the ball hawking Senior picked off #1 for the 2012 season

Freshman CB Hayden Larson made the highlights scooping up a Fumble on SS E. Armstrong's huge hit in the 4th Quarter taking it 76 yds for the score as the Eagles defeat the Buffalos in Week 1.

"I am extremely excited with how the team played today. FR QB B. Wilson made a few key mistakes (INT and the Fumble that led to the TD right before the half), but he also made some bigtime throws. Stewart looked amazing out there. Wearing the #22, he looked the part of Taiwan Jones all night and I can't say enough about the DEFENSE. They shut down the running attack of Calhoun and made some huge plays.

So I am going to attempt to make my recaps like this every week, however it is very time consuming for me. I am sure I will get faster with it the more I do it, but we will see. When it comes to the Weekly Around the Nation Recaps they will be similar to last year. I will highlight a couple of Top-25 Scores and also post the Boardmember Coaches Results.
