Re: Tulane Football: "From Worst to First"

        Recruiting Insider

        Dawson commits, Foster to KSU

It took 11 weeks, but Tulane has finally landed its first commit of the Class of 2018. Marque Dawson, a 3-star DE from Claiborne, LA, announced his commitment to Green Wave football following Tulane's conference-clinching victory in Cincinnati this past weekend. Dawson was being recruited by some big-time programs, including a few SEC notables, but he wanted to play for a program on the rise. He was really focused on academics and campus lifestyle, and he's gonna get those at Tulane. But he also wanted to win a championship, and Coach Kaelyn Willingham stressed the chances he would have of doing so in New Orleans (especially with the continuity the coaching staff currently enjoys). He's not a fast guy but he's got great burst, and ability to get off the block & make the tackle. Still though, he'll likely red-shirt next season.

Some unfortunate news, Tulane lost out on one of its key prospects for the 2018 class. Jake Foster, one of the JUCO centers Willingham was recruiting, has officially committed to Kansas State. The 3-star prospect out of Virginia would have fit in nicely with the Tulane offensive line, as 2 key players are leaving this off-season. With the loss, expect the coaching staff to turn its attention to heavily pursuing Mike Jackson, the other JUCO center being recruited, as well as 4-star prospect Geoff Gallagher. Gallagher will be an incoming freshman and likely red-shirted if he commits, but Jackson would be the player expected to come in & contribute right away if he commits.

The Wave are also closing in on two more commits for this year's class, as both are soft-commits. Blake Wright, a 3-star OLB from Duncanville, TX, visited the Tulane campus for Homecoming Weekend, and has strongly considered playing Tulane football for weeks now. He has good speed for a linebacker, as well as strength, burst and stamina (good for when playing those no-huddle spread offenses). His tackling & block shedding skills need to improve, but he performs fairly well in coverage. He would also lessen the blow if Tulane loses out on OLB Adam Chavis, whom the Green Wave have coveted for weeks, but looks fairly set on going to Louisville. Another soft-commit, ATH Jeff Rodgers, also has Tulane ranked very high on his board. He too in very interested in academics (considering he also has Northwestern, Georgia Tech, Texas and Miami (FL) on his board), but wants to stay close to home. The 4-star prospect from Alabama is rather close to committing to Green Wave football, but wants to keep his options open a bit longer. He projects as a CB in the Tulane secondary.

Re: Tulane Football: "From Worst to First"

Tulane to SEC: "We Want In."

Tulane Athletic Director Rick Dickson sent a strong message to the leaders of the Southeastern Conference this week at an alumni gala to honor Tulane Athletics, past and present. And the message was clear.

Rick Dickson: "We want the SEC. We know that we have a lot of work to do to accomplish that goal, and we're willing to work. But we want the SEC Conference and we think we'd be a great addition to their league."

Tulane has been rumored to be interested in SEC admission for quite a while. And the recent success of the Green Wave football team has leaders looking to cash in. The SEC currently sits at 14 members, after admitting former Big 12 members Missouri and Texas A&M in 2012. The conference has since stayed comfortable with its membership and denied any reports of potential expansion. The Atlantic Coast Conference meanwhile has flirted at adding Tulane to its ranks, and is reportedly very serious about extending an offer. The Big 12 has also been tied to Tulane rumors, as they are expected to expand back to 12 teams very soon. If any SEC expansion rumors were true, it would likely involve ACC teams. But the ACC currently has a Grant Of Rights among its members, which effectively eliminates any conference shuffling without loss of substantial TV revenue. With this in mind, SEC expansion is HIGHLY unlikely.

Despite that, Rick Dickson vows to do anything to put Tulane Athletics in the best position.

Dickson: "We know we're facing big odds here. But we want to make sure Tulane associates among the best, competes among the best, and is in the best position to succeed for years to come."

Stay tuned for more conference expansion news.

PS: This BC game is without a doubt the biggest game of the the year thus far. Win and we're IN the BCS.

You had a pretty good 2017 recruiting class :P. Will definitely be following this from now on!

Most of the guys starting right now are from the 2014-2015 recruiting classes. Hoping the 2017 class shapes up to be just as good.

                            Thanks for following!

My family's preparing to move (again), so things are gonna be hectic for the next few days. I'm gonna keep the last few updates of the season really short. Wrap up the 2nd Bye Week, do a quick Boston College update, then wrap up the regular season with East Carolina. Gonna keep it short & simple, getting ready for bowl season.
