Thanks Deuce. I think back to those two heartbreakers @ UConn & Cincy and wonder "What if...". Might not have been enough to win the conference, as South Florida pulled out 10 wins (a MAJOR turnaround from their 3-9 campaign last year), but even those 2 SEC games were close (surprising shootouts). It shows my team's toughness, I guess. But next year, I expect at the least 10 wins. Hopefully an AAC title, maybe a BCS berth. I know we've got the talent

Re: Tulane Football: "From Worst to First"

      Wave Sends Seniors Out Right

Senior Day. The last game in the 'Dome for 14 Green Wave seniors. While a win doesn’t affect their bowl status, they’d still like to win their last home game, against an East Carolina team playing spoiler at 4-7. Knowing this, the Wave would not let them take advantage.

Devin Powell powers it in for his 9th rushing TD of the season.

The Green Wave rolled to an easy 27-10 victory, giving them 7 on the season. It’ll be the third time in Willingham’s four years at Tulane that the Green Wave win seven games. ECU’s lone touchdown of the game came on defense, making it the first time since 2012 that the Wave would not allow an offensive touchdown.

“I’m proud of our defense.” said Wilingham after the game. “We knew they’d have a tough time facing yet another spread offense. But they came through and they responded.”

The game was never really close. The scoring would start in the second, with Devin Powell powering into the endzone for a 5-yard touchdown. ECU would respond with a FG, and that’s all they would do offensively in the game. Powell didn’t need to throw the ball much, completing 8 of 11 for 55 yards and a TD to Justin Fountain. But the run game was unstoppable, as Powell would amass 132 yards and 2 TDs on 25 carries. Devon Breaux and Wendell Goolsby both ran hard in the game as the Tulane offense would amass over 300 yards on the ground, the 6th time this season that’s happened. All in all, it was a team effort, a team win.

Justin Fountain catches his fourth TD of the season.

HBs Devon Breaux and Wendell Goolsby both ran hard in the game, amassing over 50 yds each and over 150 total.

The regular season is now over, as Tulane awaits its bowl invitation. The Green Wave will NOT have a share of the AAC, as both South Florida and Cincinnati finish with 9+ wins. But the Wave will finish the regular season 7-5, 6-3 in conference play. Finishing third overall in the conference will likely send the Green Wave to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl, but we shall see.

      Roll Wave!

        Conference Championship Week

Conference Championship Week has arrived, and there are some REALLY good matchups in this year's games.

But first, a look at the BCS picture:

There will be championship games in the ACC, SEC, Pac-12, Big Ten, MAC, Mountain West and C-USA. Let's preview the matchups:

        ACC: Clemson vs. Virginia
Winner clinches birth in the Orange Bowl. Both teams have great defenses and offenses that glue you to your TV. This is Virginia's 2nd straight trip to the title game.

        SEC: Alabama vs. Georgia
Winner heads to Tulane's home, the Superdome, for the Sugar Bowl. These teams did not meet in SEC play this season, but there is much animosity on both sides. Expect to see some PowerBall.

        Pac-12: Arizona State vs. Washington
This will be the first visits for both teams to the PAC title game. Both teams have lethal offenses, so the scoreboard will have some work in this one. Washington has been ranked as high as 4th this season, but now they look to hang on to any BCS hopes.

        B1G: Iowa vs. Michigan State
Expect to see defense in this one. Both teams will pound it to the throat, playing Smashmouth football. 'Nuff said.

        MAC: Ohio vs. Toledo
Well folks, this one is interesting. The pollsters are apparently impressed with Ohio's play & schedule this season to rank them 2nd in the BCS. A win: they're in. The BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, that is. The Bobcats also have a Heisman candidate in RB Kyle Hammonds. With over 2200 rushing yards this season & 23 touchdowns, a win likely clinches Hammonds the Heisman Trophy. That would make him the 3rd RB in 7 years to win the award, as well as the first player in the 65-year history of the MAC Conference, and the first-ever player not in a "power conference," to win the award. Let's just say, HISTORY IS AT STAKE IN THIS ONE.

Mountain West: Boise State vs. Nevada
This heated rivalry will be kicked up a notch in the MWC Championship Game. Boise State, currently ranked 12th, can clinch an automatic birth to the BCS with a victory. Chris Petersen would LOVE to lead Boise State to its third BCS game in school history, where they are 2-0 all-time.

        C-USA: Tulsa vs. Southern Miss
Tulsa's first year back in Conference USA was a successful one. Makes them wonder why they left in the first place. While Navy will not play in the game in its first year, Southern Miss will, coming in at 10-2. The only team in C-USA with double-digit wins, a win will put the Golden Eagles in the Liberty Bowl, where they will likely face an old rival currently in The American. Same goes for Tulsa.

Let's get through Championship Week, then onto Bowl Season!

Looks like we got ourselves a good bowl game

The "Battle for the Bell" will be on the line! Nothing like a rivalry game in a bowl game!

            Game Notes
The "Battle for the Bell" is on the line in this year's Liberty Bowl. Both teams did not play each other in the regular season, but are happy to meet in a bowl game. Both teams also have key injuries coming into the game, which could hamper the offenses. Both teams need to play to their style: Southern Miss the pass, Tulane the run. If they can do that, this should be a very exciting game. Southern Miss came within one win of claiming the C-USA title, but fell short against Tulsa. They'll look to defend their 10-win season. For those unaware of both teams, don't look at just the records. Tulane may be 7-5, but they did go 6-3 in The American, including victories over 8-4 Temple and 10-win conference champ South Florida. They also played 2 SEC teams in LSU & Auburn very close. This game could very well be one of the marquee matchups of the Bowl Season.

I'm sorry but I think your game is broken because Ohio State does not appear to be ranked. JK but what does it take to post dynasty thing like this. Would like to do it for my Ryan Hayes dynasty. It'll hopefully keep me going in it.

I know. For some reason OSU always underperforms. Don't even think they went to a bowl this year, as they lost most their B1G games. That's a shame.

Anyway, you can create a blog easy just by creating a thread. Mine's in the Dynasty HQ section. But you have to have permission first.

May just be a NCAA 13 thing with Ohio State. In my Bowling Green dynasty, Ohio State is ranked #1 and just destroyed #9 Penn State 42-0.
Anyway, having a rivalry in the bowl game is always fun. Good luck with So. Miss!

Tulane-Southern Miss. Battle for the Bell in the Liberty Bowl.

Craziest stat line ever: At the half, Tulane leads 21-20.

                    QB Devin Powell: 4/8, 60 yds, 3 INT; 10 rush, 77 yds, 2 TD

The Green Wave have possessed the ball much longer, gained 228 yds rushing in the first half, scored 21, yet have FOUR turnovers.

Kinda weird game, yet somewhat typical for this team this year.

                            Liberty Bowl Champs!

The monkey is finally off their backs. Tulane is a bowl winner. Liberty Bowl champs!

Despite 5 turnovers, including 4 interceptions by Devin Powell, the Green Wave were able to rally behind Powell’s 201 rushing yards & 3 touchdowns en route to a 35-32 victory in the Autozone Liberty Bowl. The game was fast-paced and exciting from the start, arguably one of the best of the bowl season. Devin Powell had over 200, Wendell Goolsby had over 100, Devon Breaux had ALMOST 100, and Tulane bullied Southern Miss on the line of scrimmage all day. Both teams ran the ball, and in the end the more experienced running team won.

Devin Powell rushing for his first of 3 TDs on the ground today.

Wendell Goolsby turns an option pitch into a 51 yard gain.

Fred Roach punches it in for a TD.

Devin Powell had a wild day on the gridiron. Despite completing 8 passes in the game, including 4 to the OTHER team, his ground game torched a Southern Miss defense that knew he would run the ball a great deal today. Still, they were unable to stop him. His most notable play: turning a simple QB Blast play into an 80 yard touchdown run to begin the second half.

“Devin was amazing today. Well, he was really Jekyll & Hyde.” Said Coach Willingham after the game. “Thankfully the good Devin showed up at the right times.”

The defense also played a good game. Despite giving up 400 yards yet again, they made the key plays they needed to make them when they needed to make them. Only 256 allowed in the air, but an uncharacteristic 133 allowed on the ground.

Powell’s second TD of the game.

PLAY OF THE GAME: 80 yard TD run by Devin Powell to open 2nd half.

Southern Miss QB Ricky Lloyd looked for many running lanes to scramble in today, but was unable to find any.

As mentioned, Devin ran the ball magically, but threw it horrendously. Devin threw 4 picks on the day.

So what’s next for the Green Wave? 14 seniors graduate with a season-defining win, the Tulane faithful rejoice over their first bowl win since 1999, and Willingham & Crew hit the recruiting trail. Using the bowl victory as a bargaining chip.

Willingham: “This win is great for recruiting. We can show recruits now that Tulane can be a destination for winning. Tulane can be a place where great things can happen, and all your dreams can come true.”

As for next year, the Green Wave have their goals set high. 10-win season, conference championship, perhaps a BCS berth. It’s all possible, with the talent returning to the team. Especially at the QB position. Moving forward, things are looking bright for the Green Wave.

Happy New Year, everyone! ROOOOLLLLLL WAAAAAVVVVEEEEE!!!!!!

Still, enjoy the write-up. I worked hard on it

Man, Devon went off for his last game. 200 yes rushing with a few TD's. His passing stunk as he completed 8 , half of those going to the opposing teams. Oh well. Who cares. The Liberty Bowl trophy is on its way to New Orleans for the Mardy Gra.
