Coach Patterson was giving us his usual pre-game speech, but I was too preoccupied to listen.
I could be the first freshman to get time on a team coached by Blake Patterson. He didn't usually have freshman, or even sophomores, play significant time on Varsity, except in blow out wins.
"Now let's go out there and win this!" Coach Patterson shouted.
"Whoo!" Everyone seemed to yell at the same time.
We quickly got on the board, with a touchdown pass to Kobe Anderson from Teddy Fritz.
The rest of the first quarter we dominated, ending it with a score of 21-0.
"Street! You're gonna play some nickel corner. Got it?" Coach Patterson asked me.
"Yes coach!" I said to him, running onto the field.
I was in for about ten plays on defense. I got a pass breakup, two tackles, and no passes completed to the slot receiver.
At halftime, this game seems pretty done with a score 35-7. Washington has been unstoppable on offense, and their defense has played very good.
"Good job out there..." Coach Patterson was giving us a halftime speech, not that we needed it, as we had the game pretty much in hand.
Heading into the fourth quarter, Washington leads 49-21.
"Time to sit Teddy?" Coach Taylor asked Coach Patterson.
"I guess, but who for?" Coach Patterson asked Coach Taylor.
"Tyler Reaves?"
"He's still being evaluated for a concussion."
"Timmy Weston?"
"I feel like he's too good to put in there."
"Aaron Street?"
"That'll have to do, he'll just be handing the ball off anyway."
"Aaron Street!" Coach Patterson called me over.
"You're gonna go in at quarterback."
"Yes coach." I said, feeling ready to take this opportunity.
I was in with a lot of junior varsity and freshman players.
I was just handing it off to the running back every play, but then I got the hand signal from coach.
Play Action!
I faked it to Cameron Graham, and looked downfield.
Brandon Striker had ten yards on his man.
I threw it down field.
He caught it.
Touchdown!
