The Seahawks have had two weeks to prepare to face the struggling Redskins. While they were off last week, RGIII took over then NFL interceptions lead formerly held by Russell Wilson, and if the Seattle D can play as well as it has to date, Wilson and the offense will have no excuses for not getting the team back to .500.

‘Hawks Come From Behind After Blowing 14-0 Lead

15 days after losing by only 3 points despite committing 5 turnovers, the Seattle Seahawks journeyed to the nation’s capital desperately needing a win to avoid finishing the first quarter of their 2014 season with a 1-3 record. Midway through the second quarter of their meeting with the Washington Redskins, with Good Russell Wilson throwing for one score and running for another, the ‘Hawks appeared to be on their way to a resounding rebound. But then Bad Russell Wilson reared his ugly head, falling into a 3-interception slump that helped the ‘Skins erase a 14-0 deficit and which lasted until the 4th quarter, when Good Russ reappeared to lead Seattle to a 24-21 Monday Night Football victory.

After the game began with an exchange of punts, Seattle’s second series was capped by Wilson’s 14 yard TD pass to rookie Kevin Norwood from a 3rd and 6 situation resulting from a Ryan Kerrigan sack. Wilson’s 6 yard run completed the the Seahawks’ third series, but Washington was able to respond with a 5 yard pass from Robert Griffin III to Pierre Garcon. Marshawn Lynch opened the next drive by passing the century mark on his 14th carry, but two plays later, on just the second of 9 attempts which was not completed to a Seattle receiver, Wilson threw a pick-six to Trenton Robinson. In the final 2 minutes of the half, Wilson scrambled into a sack and had two deep balls picked off by Bashaud Breeland, and the teams went to the locker rooms in a 14-14 deadlock.

Washington took the second half kickoff to a 1 yard scramble touchdown by RGIII, who had also dashed to a first and goal at the 2. Three plays after the kickoff Robert Turbin lost a fumble at the Washington 49. The Seattle defense, however, was able to prevent the Redskins from converting, with Kam Chancellor forcing a Griffin fumble on a read-option and with Bruce Irvin recovering at the Seahawk 34. On the third play of the fourth quarter, Derrick Coleman’s 2 yard run on 3rd and goal tied the score at 21. The Redskins went three and out thanks to a third down sack by Jordan Hill. With the Seahawks reaching a 4th and 1 at the 2, Pete Carroll played it safe, opting for Steven Hauschka’s go-ahead gimme and trusting his defense to hold the lead for the game’s final 4:17. His trust was rewarded with a punt forced at 2:42, and at the 2 minute warning the Seahawks were in a 2nd and 9. Wilson’s 22 yard play-action pass to Zach Miller converted, then a pair of Lynch runs, which consumed Washington’s remaining time outs, left a 3rd and inches which was converted by a Wilson sneak, effectively ending the game.

Marshawn Lynch, who had a 151-yard night, receives cogratulations from Paul Richardson after rushing for a first down.

Russell Wilson’s 6 yard run put Seattle up 14-0.

Looks like RGIII mis-timed his slide.

Bruce Irvin celebrates his fumble recovery.

Derrick Coleman winds up for a spike following his game-tying score.

RGIII looks up at the score of the Redskins' 4th loss in 5 games.

Wow, nice win. Redskins were #1 seed in NFC this season in my dynasty. Always fun to see how different things can be in various dynasties.

They did pretty well in my Jets chise year 1. And that was still a tough win even with updated ratings.

G-Men have to be the surprise team here.

                          Game Notes
It's mid-October, and the Seahawks are still looking for their first home win of 2014. That doesn't need to be said after this game. Now that the 'Hawks are back at .500, they need to establish a winning record and continue gain momentum as they back half of the season approaches. This week's task is to beat the Cowboys, who have the NFL passing yardage leader in Tony Romo and the top pass-catcher in Dez Bryant, but they also have an o-line riddle with injures, which might pose problems for Romo vs. the #LOB.

‘Hawks Beast Their Way To Walk-Off Win

Despite Russell Wilson not throwing an interception and compiling his best passer rating of the 2014 season, the Seattle Seahawks still needed a walk-off field goal to defeat the visiting Dallas Cowboys for their first home win of the year. The final 15 yards of the 164 amassed by Marshawn Lynch got the ‘Hawks into field goal range to help set up Steven Hauschka’s game-winning kick on the final play of what had been a see-saw battle.

A 10 yard screen from Wilson to Doug Baldwin capped the opening drive, after which the Cowboys reached a 1st and 10 at the Seattle 21 that became a 4th and 10 on three straight incomplete Tony Romo passes. In Seattle’s next possession, Wilson scrambled for a first down but lost a fumble that Lavar Edwards took down the sideline to the Seahawk 17. On the next play, the first quarter ended with Romo’s completion to Dez Bryant for a first and goal at the 4. The second quarter began with DeMarco Murray reaching the 1, then Murray scored on third and goal after a second down stop by Bobby Wagner. A Tyrone Crawford sack led to a three and out and the Seahawks’ first punt, but the following Dallas series was terminated by Wagner’s sack-fumble combo and Michael Bennet’s recovery at the Cowboy 44. The turnover was converted into a 19 yard chip shot field goal that tied the score at 10 with 3:58 remaining in the half.

The first possession of the second half saw the 'Boys reach a first and goal at the 4 that came to nothing thanks to a Kam Chancellor end zone pick, a critical play given the game’s final outcome. That was the closest either team came to scoring in the third quarter, and it wasn’t until 11 minutes to go that the deadlock was broken by Lynch scoring from inside the 1. The Cowboys answered with Romo scrambling 9 yards for a TD on 3rd and goal, and in their next series the 'Hawks could only generate 1 first down before being forced to punt. The 2 minute warning arrived with Dallas in a 3rd and 1 at midfield. Seattle defensive coordinator Dan Quinn dialed up a double safety blitz, which foiled Dallas’ attempt to fool the Seahawks with a pass. With Chancellor and Earl Thomas converging on him, Romo hurried a throw that sailed incomplete. Chris Jones’ punt went out of bounds at the 9, but the Seahawks pounded their way to first and 10 at the Cowboy 43, just one more first down from field goal range. Lynch went for 6 and 9 yards to the 28, then Robert Turbin’s 11 yard burst set up the game-winning kick.

Bobby Wagner and DeMarco Murray share some face time.

A blitzing Tharold Simon just misses getting a sack.

Kam Chancellor's end zone pick ended the first series of the second half, and might have been a game-saver.

As always Muddy, I'm enjoying following along. The 12th man finally came through for you. How are you enjoying Madden on the 4? Your sliders seem to be playing pretty well with the stats you're getting. Anyway, just checking in, saying hey, and good luck. I'll be lurking in the background.
